It could easily have been much much worse. The potential for meltdown was there. He managed to avoid it, so for me it was good, relative to what could have happened.

Thought Pearson did a good job last night.

Weetabix always soak up about the milk well

And were it not for a dodgy ref decision (home v Swindon) and Lynch inexplicably failing to use the double points facility (away v Sumzet), it would probably be Kings Lynn in the hot seat instead. How apt that would have been!!

It's looking like Leicester v Sheffield. Resembles a wedding organised way in advance. But as the date gets closer the bride and groom realise they're closely related to each other.

Maybe a reason, but I suspect that if Tatum were to be the main race commentator, these problems wouldn't occur anywhere near as much, as he seems able to read races and of course as a former rider has a clear advantage in that. Chris Louis would make a decent sidekick for him.

Must say that Mr Pearson's problems with getting things wrong seems to be getting worse. Not just stumbling over routine factual detail, but he often doesn't seem able to properly make an assessment of who has the advantage in the first two bends. He will say that rider X has the advantage, when it's clearly rider Y. I think it's time for BT to look at possible alternative arrangements.

Suggest contacting a Mr Hemsley for advice on how to finance new stadium. However, be careful not to let him in, and conduct dealings with a long spoon.

Jason Doyle In This Weeks Speedway Star
Big Al replied to diamond_ren's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
So ok, you scrap the averages for team building purposes. But there has got to be some sort of controls, hasn't there? Otherwise you risk getting a repeat of Cradley in the late 70's when McCormick's chequebook ruled. I think the notion of "banning" GP riders is plain daft (same goes for "banning" any category of rider). But if there isn't control via a cap on the team average total, wouldn't it bring in the need for control by way of an overall team pay cap instead? That would be very hard to monitor and enforce, though. Teams would find ways around it, and you can bet it would be the usual slippery character at the forefront. -
Mostly disappointing although was getting more consistency in his scores in the second half of the season. As a rider I think he's a bit of a one-trick pony. Needs deeper dirt out wide otherwise he's struggling

Doyle a fine rider but a bit lacking in intelligence and shows it at times. Maybe having a team manager who habitually spouts verbal diarrhoea doesn't help -
Not using the b/w is equal to betting on the opponents to win heats. Maybe Jim had already put a crafty tenner on that heat's outcome.

Leicester V Rye House 12.08.17

Think a lot of this has been said already, but just seems this guest riders business due to doubling up in terms of the effect on the supposedly higher level league has gone too far. Injuries sadly you have to live with, and we've become used to international commitments and of course the Polish clubs problem seems to be gathering pace. Then you've no idea if the guests are going to be up to the job. Maybe it IS a Leicester thing and other Prem clubs have not been as badly effected. -

I don't mean Leicester specifically but this Premiership league thing. May as well stay home and watch the lottery because that's what this league is now!! -

Keep the team matches/league going, but have an individual riders league as well with points earned from race points and rides taken throughout the season regardless of whether they come from guest appearances or from own team matches. Make that the main competition and have a sub-category for under-21 riders. End of season, two team matches with the teams drawn from the top 14 individuals, staged at the home tracks of the two top points scorers, with double race points on offer. Should also ensure Chris Harris wins something before he retires. -

Did Grajonek miss the Sheffield match at Edinbra last night? Also had to pull out from guesting for Leicester earlier this week? Bjerre probably well short of fitness as well. This one could be close. -
Am trying to recall the year when a team called Leicester fulfilled a league fixture at Swindon with only one of its own riders. I'd guess 1976, with the rider being Doug Underwood. Not quite as bad as that now, but pretty close. Sheffield not having a "proper" match today has stopped that ignominious occasion from being equalled.

Presuming the same league setup is going to exist in 2018 (and maybe even if it doesn't), which of the current 7 should the management be trying hardest to keep at Leicester next season? Getting some definite names sorted out early doors is surely top priority this time, isn't it?

Leicester Lions Vs Swindon Robins 17/07/17
Big Al replied to The Observer's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Just looked at that incident again. Have changed my mind. It wasn't a bad refereeing decision, just a wrong one. Pawel had already embarked on a trajectory that was always going to result in him either going into or very close to the fence on bend 4. This was probably due to lack of knowledge of the track, coupled with the track prep which had created a corridor a grip on the outer half of the track. Losing control of his bike as it picked up grip merely hastened his journey to the fence. Riss was in front, and there are no wing mirrors on the bikes, nor is there a requirement for riders to look around. Peter Collins once said that when another rider is close, you hear a buzzing noise but that it's impossible to tell whereabouts the other bike is, you don't know if he is on the inside or outside. Riss was innocent! -

It was an opinion, but always up for reasonable discussion. Every decision is subjective to differing extents - an interpretation and app!ication of rules. Reiffel made a couple of howlers in the recent test match but nowadays officials can be cruelly exposed, and in his case the decisions definitely weren't final! Anyway I'll have another look at the Riss/Predpelski (maybe a few times) when I get back later. You never know I may change my mind. -

Pleased you seem prepared to have an adult discussion rather than gainsay. The issue of who was primary cause will always be a subjective one of course. Is a group of referees going to be impartial in judging a colleague? Are they more likely to close ranks? Carter or Penhall? I've always agreed with Kittelsen's decision - Carter made a mistake of judgement, fell, and that was the primary cause of the race being stopped. Apparently the referee apologized to Janowski yesterday for his error of judgement. Is that a first?? -

And neither are Rye House so there should be no problem for getting a Cov team sorted. Can even include KK now he's been sacked by Poole. -
