Oz Championships 2013-14
Lord Antebellum replied to Primary Chain's topic in International World of Speedway
It is a strange world. Britain can virtually ban Poles from the Premier League. And a very good thing that is, too. But our own Government can ban Aussies from riding here, while swinging wide the door for Yanks, Argies and all sorts of other "foreign" countries. -
What has it got to do with Berwick?
-
Nowt to do with IoW. Jensen is an Eastbourne asset.
-
Now surely 18 meetings? 15 PL + 3 LC? That'll be £11.05 per match (or £8.28 for the old folk).

14 Home And Away League
Lord Antebellum replied to brewer's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Absolutely correct. Best way to go, in fact let's demand fifteen home/away now! -
1) Somerset and the Kurtz family, enquire about Brady getting a UK passport, but are told he cannot get one until he turns 17. 2) Somerset ask BSPA if a UK passport-holder can enter PL racing for the first time on 3.00. They would be told he could. No problem. But no mention of....... 3) Instead of sitting at home twiddling his thumbs, 16-year-old Brady then turns up in Denmark and rides in one of their leagues. This automatically moves him, regardless of whatever passport he holds, onto a "has ridden in a league abroad" average, either a 5.00, more likely 7.00. 4) Having the UK passport is now only relevant inasmuch as he will not need a work permit. 5) Claims by Somerset that "we were told he'd be a 3.00" are probably correct -- but didn't they realise his riding overseas would change things? Didn't they think to (a) advise Brady not to enter league racing overseas if he wanted to claim his 3.00, and/or ( mention to the BSPA office that their "first-time newcomer on a UK passport" had started racing overseas?

And this information is coming from where?
-
Wolbert is an expensive signing, even if just to cover his travels, and Berge is by the promotion's own admission, the result of a bidding contest. Where is a club which lost over fifty thousand pounds last summer going to find the funds to underwrite this operation? Oh, and fund an airfence, and refit their burned-out bar-cum-toilet block?
-
If you insist: Tracks without fences as at the close of 2013 were (to the best of my knowledge)Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Plymouth, Redcar, Rye House, Sheffield, Somerset, Workington, Buxton, Isle of Wight and Stoke. Regardless of being ordered, paid for, delivered or whatever, no track can operate after March 15 without an approved soft barrier. There may be a few late starts to the new season!

He was shocking for Plymouth.

If Sheffield don't have Facundo Albin back, they are crazy. Raw as anything, in a strange country and limited as to equipment, he ENTERTAINED each time I saw him ride. Clearly the Sheffield spectators took him to their hearts. Get him back, get him someone to set him up with a hot engine and watch him go. If the Tigers don't want him, there would be a number of tracks who will.

Idiotic post. Checking back, on this day in 2012, Berwick had announced their full team! That worked out well, then.......
-
Even worse with the above corrections! But Glasgow do own Henning Bager's contract (but may be property of old promotion) plus Harley Horwood and Joey Ringwood.
-
Among active riders, asset base held at BSPA shows (alphabetically) Alden, Barrett, Bellego, Carr, Edberg, Franc & Franchetti. There you go -- your seven-man team!

14 Home And Away League
Lord Antebellum replied to brewer's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Fans in the north loved them, especially over a weekend. In the south we didn't care -- you don't get much local derby excitement when Plymouth are in four-team qualifier at Ipswich on a Thursday night. Also(and fans have to consider this as the main reason they'll never be reinstated)promoters have to fund travel and top-up points money for three away fixtures out of the proceeds from only one home meeting. In this day and age, the sums don't add up. -
Joey Ringwood a heap better than Justin Sedgmen. Also, he would live locally, Sedgmen would more than likely want to stay in Swindon, where he has always lived while in England.

Sheffield For Sale
Lord Antebellum replied to RedcarRacer's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Fair point, and adds the interesting factor that nine of the twelve declared PL circuits have not only committed to race, they have committed to have an air-fence actually installed by March 15th........ -
Covatti will be guided by his business manager. Berwick maybe burned their boats with Argentina by choosing to let Albin go last year.

These will (patently) be the League Cup groups. Surely you don't want a straight repeat as doubled-up league fixtures as well? -

... and the airfence issue will be resolved, how? -

My fear is the doomsday scenario of, despite having declared themselves, the clubs with serious doubts (Peterborough without a buyer, Sheffield with airfence doubts and no buyer and Glasgow with a £55K black hole from last year and no sign of a miracle) don't come under starter's orders. Leaving NINE clubs, and another instance of the big league wiping its backside with the lower strata. Sixteen home and away, anyone? -

I have been told Chris Holder may be fit, and riding! -
A question Glasgow fans should be asking, long before they start making up fantasy-league teams. From all the gossip here and on Facebook, I would have thought there are big questions to be answered by your promotion -- which I guess means your board of directors. Are they planning to turn last season's £55K losses into profit by snapping their fingers, or is there a Plan B in the offing?

British Speedway Promoters Meeting
Lord Antebellum replied to dantodan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Absolutely. With a caveat to ensure ALL clubs in ALL leagues get an equal share of any TV revenue which might accrue, after investment in grass-roots. -

I'm not sure if I agree that sitting out their home season is a great idea for Australian riders. For the top men, they require only three meetings (during the same week) over four months, and a very real chance of getting onto the GP stepladder. By all means sit out minor domestic events, but the national titles must surely be worth entering. Same goes for the younger lads, with qualification out of their single U-21 meeting into the World U-21 process.
