Basically what the whole thing (wsl) is, is a follow up to an idea by some FIM bigwig 25 years ago (he has a name, cant remember now). It could have been a great idea then, not now. Like iris123,0 I personally am on the no-go wagon. The money and support is not there. At the moment.

So I dug up some info on this superleague crap. Prize money is around 24k in euros and the travelling teams have to be paid 10k each travel money. So thats 54k out of the organizers pocket. On top of that, theres the sanctioning fee for the fim. Every meeting has one. Over here you can have a national level individual for I think 150. The fee for this one I think is somewhere between LT WC-final and a SGP, moneywise 3-25k in euros. So in reality it IS quite an expensive day out, especially for the organiser. Lets say you win it, you have something like 20k to spread for four riders, TOP riders. They would be happy. Then there are 12 riders left... Anyone can check the prize money from the rulebook, the sanctioning fee is a mystery, so far...

When was that?

Really? I read the book once a year atleast for the past decade, must have skipped a page or two...

Black bottoms was about guests and other new riders just putting on a shirt or similar on top of their own race suit and looking like the rest of the team. It actually never worked, so if it's forgotten, then good. On the other hand with the new rules on fabrics in suits, the designs and stuff are going to a more boring and less bling sort of way. Dont like that.

Interesting wording on a sportowefakty news regarding Tampere SGP. In matters concerning the beginning of the season, the choice of the holder of a wild card for the tournament Grand Prix Finland scheduled May 16 in Tampere, will be made between Joonas Kylmaekorpim and Timo Lahtim. The main candidates for this tournament reserve players are Nike Lunna and Jari Makinen. In the story they are quoting speedway.fi story, where it clearly states that Lunna and Nieminen are the reserves. I translated the article with google. "English GP's deputies appointed Speedway Grand Prix driven Tampere Ratina 16th day of May. The competition is named after the Vice agents of the dominant young Finnish Champion Nike Lunna and Jiri Nieminen. Competition in the wild card fate solve, in turn, Ratinan GP-oval 2.5. executable competition. According to preliminary data there is Finnish cutting edge maaradan world champion Joonas Kylmäkorpi and Timo Lahti, including. Competition is also a good test for future GP track." So why quote a source if you do the story yourself?

Never did, but managed to hang on for a full season! Was told recently, that my services are currently not required for 2015.

A friend does the commentary for the Elitserien here in Finland. Think it was about ten days before the first match he was contacted about it and then it was confirmed a day or two earlier. So it's HIGHLY likely, that even the bosses dont know yet. TV is a world of it's own...

2015 Ice Speedway Gladiators

That was a bit frustrating! But as it was actually a bus, I was not allowed to drive so I did have a beer!! -
Nieminen is in Austria for the GP quali, not at Ratina. Dont know if Lunna will be there, from memory Scunthorpe is a weekend track.SML has a Sec quali slot in Debrecen on May 1st, sgp on may 2nd with Nieminen and Mäkinen is to be at Lonino on May 3rd. Then theres still left the may 16th (ratina sgp date) sec quali in France.
-
Now official, that Nike Lunna and Jiri Nieminen are the GP reserves most likely in that order. A "qualy" meeting is held at the track on May 2nd for the wild card. It's gonna be an interesting day!

Common sense? the purpose of the number in the first Place? And actually Mäkinen had picked Kildemands #25.

Scandal, Wojaczek, no news there. -
Didnt OO start with Gundersen after he quit riding? I think thats what was said on some history speedway video.
-
Cant remember this being discussed. A popular trend among riders world wide and outside SGP and SEC also is to pick a #number and stick with it. Is anyone actually keeping track on the numbers already picked? I'm as anorak (that word is right?) and interested as the next one, but have decided that someone else can do this one, as my plate for this year is full. I woke up for this one, as Jari Mäkinen FI seems to have picked 25 as his #number. Getting a bit close to gp reserved's... Also from our part of the world Timo Lahti is #98 for a 2nd season.

Wasnt that about his days with Mauger? A good story, nice that he was allowed to tell it. It's two minutes, has been for years. Let them play mindgames, just be ready like PUK says at the end of 2 mins. 15 times 5 minutes (2 minute allowance + the actual heat + get out time) is 75 minutes. That leaves 45 minutes for track work and sausage sales to complete 2 hrs. The same time it takes for ice hockey and football for a full game. For years I've seen people leave from meetings after 2 hrs us up. Thats the time most people nowadays have for their entertainment, be it for a days or weeks worth.

I thought the Colin Pratt piece in the latest Spar made him look a bit daft. He completely missed the point that refs should be more strict with the time limit. Its not about the gardening, its about the fact that you only have 2 mins to do it and be ready! From the start of season if the refs would do as the rules state, the few problem riders would have been excluded enough times and lost enough money that the actual problem would have been solved.

I if true, good news

Its not a BSI decision, its a SGP committee decision. I've paid my dues ln this, trust me. But at this moment I cant remember the composition of the committee. It was 3 members 2-1 in favour of FIM, just that I cant remember the names. FIM sporting director was one and I think the race director was the one from BSI? But the bottom line was/ and most likely still is that money calls the shots and promoters, not federations pick the wild cards. And I've actually read the new rulebook. The rule in itself has stayed the same, the paragraphing has changed to highlight that the committee makes the decisions. FMN's can propose what they want and when they want, that does not REALLY count. So did I drop a bollock and made myself a pillock (like the saying goes in wikipedia when I checked)? No, I dont think so. But I think the MA did. Just like SML did last year with the help from our FIM people...
