Television Commentaries And Interviews
f-s-p replied to Vintageman's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
There's nothing wrong with Sophie Blake. She might not know everything about speedway, but she's trying all the time and learning more and more. I've seen loads of Sky presentations this year*, and she always has something to comment on a riders performance earlier in the week or a week earlier. About her interviewing foreign=polish riders, I've seen it happen a couple of times with Robert Miskowiak. I cant understand a word, but Sophie at least lets him have the time to try and say something, and appears to understand what the guy is saying. Between Julia and Sophie, Sophie wins it by the proverbial br... chest About the commentary, only thing I really dislike, is Sam Ermolenko with his "buddy" and "whoooooo go buddy" crap... *Thanks for making it happen U2! -
I know Tero Aarnio won it! Those are results, havent had the time to search heat by heat results or scorechart. tarabanko... I know Olli somewhat, he used to be very good between the mid 80's and mid 90's. Kai Niemi is more of a mystery (actually to everyone) for me. He was a good international rider in his time, made the most classic exit from the sport never to be heard again by his mates in the UK. He's somewhere in Spain fixing scooters to the best of my knowledge at the moment. His van and bikes can be found from the same place he left them about 10 years ago... Truly a classic stunt!

I've heard of Marko Jumisko, yes. He was in the -97 Championship winning side of Wasamat from Tampere. He was from Oulu, and with the travelling from up there combined with the money in the sport (not much of it), he just got tired of it and called it in. Funny story, Jumisko can be understood as a sentence "Is it stuck?" Guess did the guys give him some hard times for that one ! I think some Kunelius people live in Eskilstuna, not 100%. I do remember one Kunelius riding in Finland, but thats too long ago. I"m really surprised really how little interest these finnish results get!

Moksunen is also the riding coach for Team Finland, and rides for Forssa Royals in the league and 1st division. He's also a regular A-finalist in finnish longtrack. In my opinion he still has some ambition in his longtrack riding, speedway is more of making the numbers for the team. Markku Jurmu= rider????? Are you sure...?? That's something he left out, when someone asked for his info on the finnish forum. He has an unofficial role as a "spokesperson" (not sure if that's the right word) for the Track racing committee in Finland. Last year was a mechanic for Panu Karvonen, who's now taking a break from the sport. He was also in the group that wrote GP raports for "Offroad" magazine, but they've been non-excistent this year. He's also involved with speedway.org trough ice racing.

He was NOT happy... First someone came and hit him entering 1st bend from the start (not too hard), but enough. Kake fell and was exluded. Second time in the run-off for 5th he was second from the start, when Bager? hit his rear wheel and Kake lost his chain and almost fell. I talked with Ilkka Teromaa who was in the jury, he said the decisions were clear and accurate. I was busy taking pictures and missed them... But Kake was certain that he was forced in to his actions, and should have been allowed in the re-runs. And yes, he looked GOOD! Kaj Laukkanen took what was his, and made it trough. The track was excellent in finnish standards, but these guys good have ridden a much deeper track. Henning Bager seemed to be the one who lost the most, because in all his heats he would have come from the back, if there would have been even a little bit more dirt. There was one line, and it was follow the leader after they've made it to backstraight. Crowd of 500+ saw good speedway on a wonderful shunshining day! -

Finnish forum predictions comp. 5+1 go trough Workington comets are riding friday and saturday in the UK, so Kauko Nieminen's participation is uncertain, well to me at least. Maybe they've given him permission to come and ride in this one? If not, he's in a hurry, because the meeting starts 12 AM on sunday. Joonas Kylmäkorpi has withdrawn, it was maybe tuesday when he did. I guess his shoulder injury is bad?
-
To the best of my knowledge, yes. This is not 100%, but he came to Pori/Finland to work some time spring last year...
-
Went trough some of his stats from -85 to -87 when he rode for Gorzow. Think he was 19 or 20 at that time. "Forties" actually ment 39 if I remembered correctly from last weekend. Anyway, steady improvent on hometrack, around 3-6 pts, and nothing away. Away scores improved -86. Found one away maximum from -87... He's still a stylish rider. He's been a solid scorer for the Pori "Devils" in the finnish league this season. Didn't really attack the bends, but rode well and looked good. Still has ambitions, wasn't too satisfied with his riding when they lost bronze by two points.

RE means rataennätys, as in track record. He made one twice. I was chatting with a junior rider today who was amazed how fast Kaj was. Well, I think he has pretty fresh motor's, since he's been crashing regulary in recent weeks in the early heats... I'm pretty disappointed on Tero Aarnio, seem's to be all talk this year Juha Hautamäki has been good, Joni Keskinen and Rene Lehtinen also. I'll see my first final (seasons last) in a month, then I'll know more. Mäkinen Speedway scored 3 pts in his semi @Wawrow, see international spw... Oh, and I'm really sorry that I havent yet given Royal Mail a chance to loose the cap for the missus...

Kalle certainly lived up to his average in the swedish league! He is the current finnish champion in this class, and also the only one of the three to take part in the finnish ind. series. Well done indeed!!!!!! Message from Jari was short and accurate, telling about zeros and not so well... Well done both Appe and Jari, I think they both had too high hopes, and Kalle as a year younger did Toninho's and just had fun!
-
I'm not sure that there's ever been a finnish finalist in this competion..? I know there wasn't one last year, but maybe they've changed the rules? One question in english grammar: Does one suppose to write nationalities with capital first's? (a sixpack gave me the courage for this one )

From the rulebook: "Each FMNR of an 80cc Speedway meeting (Qualifying Rounds, Semi-Finals and Final) is guaranteed at least one rider from its Federation in this meeting. One or more qualifying meetings or heats will lead up to the final meeting, the number or qualifying meetings or heats will be decided by the CCP Bureau at least one month before the final meeting. The qualifying meetings or heats will be held one or two days before the final meeting." Now is that saying that all the rounds add up to one meeting??? The youngster's should ride a final as well, but I think havent in the quali's. In the Euro's the rule was that from both semi each nation could get only it's top5 to the next round.
-
Dont want/mean to take anything away from anyone, but thats how it goes. Saw with my own eyes in Elgane last autumn in the U16 Euro's... Jari and Kalle meet in their third and AP and Kalle in their last ride. What would YOU do? What did Hampel do? What did Penhall do..?
-
Seems that the finns have three riders in the semis. SMS just told me that despite one fall, Aki-Pekka Mustonen rode F,0,2,2,3 and was the last to go trough from the third semi. Who could have believed that the finns would actually have a chance of team riding in an individual event on a world championship level semifinal??!!
-
I've just been on the phone to Poland. Jari was extremely happy to get trough to the semis. It's been burning hot down there, around +30 celsius, and loads of water has been consumed. By his words the track is soft, just like it was a couple of years ago. All the finns are staying at the track, playing football with the security people to pass the time. Sounds a lot better than waking up at 5 o'clock to get to work
-
Excellent!!! Where did you get these?
-
There's this swamp football world cup somewhere in Finland next weekend. I just read from text-tv, that the promoter is more than happy, actually quite proud to be serving the worlds worst food in his "Berlusconi cafeteria". They have Berlusconi soup that has kebab meat in it, and Chirac chicken wings, smallest in the world. 6000 players are coming worldwide!! After all this food stuff, there was a poll in a finnish tabloid. Question was which one is more of a moron, Chirac or Berlusconi. Presented were ten facts from both of them. Most of the facts were about their controversial finances and how they have managed to avoid prosecutions (= immunity) while in power. It was appalling reading to say the least... Anyway almost 8000 readers answered, and the verdict was that Berlusconi is the biggest moron of the two with 90% backing him! I think he was in the top 5 of his qualifier, with 8+1 getting through from the other one. Check the link in the earlier post, go to internationella tävlingar. There's a link there...
-
We have a few finns there as well. Check out: http://www.speedwayresultat.com/2005/index.html go 80cc north and see snittlista. Kalle Katajisto is #1 in averages. Appe Mustonen ( EC #6 -04) had two nightmare meetings with machinery problems, but managed an OK avg. On the south group we have Jari Mäkinen, who's ninth in the avg's without ANY bonuspoints. He's the most experienced one internationally, and has now some new equipment that "fits him like a glove"! They all have one more try next year, but I really see Appe or Jari in the semi, possibly in the final this year. The track was used maybe two years ago for a similar event, so thats one bonus for these guys. All pictures are welcomed by me!

Danish Grand Prix - Copenhagen
f-s-p replied to Subedei's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Damit!!! this was suppose to be my story... Allowed to be tested by Lindback, according to my sources. Nothing came out of it. Quote from the speedway star: " Tony plans to fly with BA". Story itself said Brian Andersen does his engines, and no-one else this year. Lots of interesting stuff on this page, need to catch up quick. The guy who was saying there's carbon in Tricks frame... where?! I've been staring the frame for good 45min this year, and the only carbon I've found were in the saddle holders... The frame is build in a way, that it flexes from a point where you want it to. Also with a completely adjustable front end geometry it gives unseen possibilities to adjust it to any track. I believe it's abilities are well known within the rider community, and it gives Trick a huge mental advantage. The name of the frame is actually "Rickardsson-Penske" frame, as said by mr Trick himself at the Cardiff press conference. -
I dont know. Last year we went to Kuusankoski, I got a A4 black&white print of the ridingscheme. This year at Pori it was the same. I have the Excel spreadseet of the meeting... The clubs really dont put too much effort in to programs currently.
