Pictures from the 55th staging of the Finnish Individual Speedway Championship Final Pori, Finland August 1st 2009 By speedwaysuomi.com here By Speedwaysanomat here

According to my stats he's been in it in 2002 and 2003. Never won it though, those were the years when Laukkanen was on top of his game. Money would be a safe bet as to why not ride in the Finnish final. The actual difference between a weekend in Germany and a trip to Finland for the final just for saturday while taking along his bikes (I'd guess) would be thousands of Euros in favour of a weekend in Germany. Also probably early in the season he was hoping he'd be riding for Indianerna on the tuesday before the Finnish final + Lakeside commitments during the week and then Poland on the sunday after the Finnish final, back to Lakeside and then again Sweden on tuesday. It was a very good meeting on saturday and with his current form he would not have won it.

HEY, WHAT A YEAR!!! We seem to have a rider in all the EC finals this year... Loppi still has the cast in his hand alltough there was no broken bones in it. It's a standard procedure for his injury to keep it in a cast for two weeks. Nieminen had to cancel his trip at the last minute due to personal reasons. My understanding is that Loppi and Nieminen will now both jump to 500cc, and that means now, not next year.
-
First. Last time he tried was in 2006. This time winning the Finnish final became one of his main goals as the season had started so well. This can be compared to previous seasons when this meeting has been just a burden in a hectic racing calendar. Also one contributing factor in his absence in the past is the fact that he's been riding in the PL during weekends.
-
Who cares about his score, you should have seen how he rode! Had a brief chat with Markku Autio who was involved in a serious (and one of the worst in recent years over here according to eyewitnessess 25 metres from the incident) crash a week ago. A week later when he had visited first the local Kuusankoski hospital and then his home hospital there's been NO x-rays taken. He has some burns in his leg and his hand doesn't stretch fully and is sore. Autio plans to be back on the bike next weekend.

He collected a perfect maximum on a track he had not seen for six years ahead of the track record holder Kaj Laukkanen. Kalle Katajisto was third after a last lap from the outside blast to pass Juha Hautamäki in the semifinal. In the final Timo Lahti (who had won the semi) was dominoed to the fence and excluded, alltough all the reasons were there for an all4back. The referee got some pretty x-rated comments from the crowd for his decision. This comment from the depths of the crowd was also widely applauded by his/her piers. It was an excellent advert for Finnish speedway. I had some people in our VIP-tent that were first timers. At some point I'll have to tell them that it's not always that good. Thats a shame of course. Live updates from a Finnish speedway meeting... Not holding my breath.

Markku Autio has no broken bones but suffered some burns to his body, leg's probably. Not riding at Pori for sure, hopefully will be back this season though.
-
There's no news on Autio's condition, but having spoken to his mechanic after the meeting on saturday I feel he wont be riding in the Finnish final this weekend. So the extra qualifier heat can be scrapped and Aarni Heikkilä become's 1st reserve and Janne Nyman steps up to 2nd reserve position. EDIT: Mika Loppi had a cast put on his hand yesterday with a broken bone in it. "os scaphoideum" is the translation for the broken bone according to wikipedia. Not nice... EDIT2: Pic's from the U21 final here! Pic's from the 80cc team final here! Mika Loppi crash starts here! EDIT3:Loppi's hand injury is a SUSPECTED broken bone. The cast still went on on sunday.

Whats the sopcast link for the meeting currently on C+? Anyone????????? -
4. After a closer conference with mr. Foster's today I'll do the necessary formalities for you tomorrow. Got a VERY nice set of pic's with Miikka Hyyryläinen heading towards China through Mika Loppi. Thankfully both for ready for a re-start ten minutes later. Didn't stay for the whole meeting, had some very interesting people onboard my car... What a laugh!

Timo Lahti won the Finnish U21 title! Appe Mustonen was also very good today after a poor early season form. Markku Autio and Teemu Lahti crashed heavily on the 2nd attempt of the final and Autio was taken to hospital with a suspected broken thigh. Looked really nasty according to the people that saw it happen just 15 m in front of them. Autio was excluded from the rerun. He was very good during the day... This is the final and everyone that showed interested were qualified to enter the final direct. My assumption at the moment is that if every U21 rider that has ridden a 500cc bike this season would have entered, it would have been a full 16 (Finnish) rider meeting. Jari Mäkinen, Jarkko Palmi and Olli Heikkilä are the riders that did not enter. To the reasons behind their unwillingness to ride in this meeting I will not comment until I get a chance to speak to them myself. Probable meeting format here + semi for 3-6 and the top2 direct to the final heat.

Kuusankoski on tuesday 23rd of June 4/8. My mistake... First time EVER! Qualifier for the 55th Individual Speedway Finnish final held at Seinäjoki, 19th of July Teemu Lahti pulled off the shock of the season so far by winning the qualifier at Seinäjoki with a full 18 point haul! Joni Kitala's 11 points is also worth a mention as is his 3rd place in the actual qualifier between local track specialists Joni Keskinen and Rene Lehtinen. I think Vili Hautala and Jooa Partanen both ride for Smederna in the 80cc so there are connections to that club. Katajisto was in Poland for the U19 so Jokerit needed one rider more and took two instead. Also Keittiöpiste seems always to have one or more foreigners. Heard that Katajisto was happy with his performance in Tarnow, hopefully made a good impression. Over and out for a week now...

Pics from Seinäjoki, July 11th At Seinäjoki there apparently was a crash between Joni Keskinen and Kaj Laukkanen. Keskinen was the leader of the pair at that time when his bike packed up in the middle of the back straigh and Laukkanen rode straight in to him. Laukkanen hurt himself enough to sit out the next day. Also Juha Hautamäki and Timo Lahti had a good battle that ended up with Hautamäki's front tire getting swept from under him and Hautamäki's exclusion. Also worth mentioning is that there were a few "pro" pairs of eyes at the meeting and the feedback was that there are good kids coming through in Finland. I knew that... Pics from Kauhajoki, July 12th
