It seems that the season in Finland has been wrapped up. Kuusankoski, Seinäjoki, Varkaus (back in business) and Hyvinkää have all held their final practise sessions and closed for the season so to speak. I was at Hyvinkää last saturday and had a spin myself after a few years break. I've only done about 40 laps alltogether since 2002 and this was the 4th of 5th time out. It was OK, alltough it must have looked more like cycle speedway than speedway. Did not fall this time, so that was an improvement from last time. I thought I had it sliding, but everytime bottled it and turned the gas off. Thanks to that I'm here writing this and not at the hospital. I thought the season was pretty good. The league was again excellent with a last heat decider for the title. Crowds were up 30 % from last year. Especially Kuusankoski deserves a mention for keeping Timo Lahti, Tero Aarnio and Andre Lebedev in their team despite them actually being foreigners this season. I'll post a short wrap up later, but there will be no results anymore from Finland appearing. The yearly track racing conferences will be held at Tampere on October 29th. Thats when we'll know more about next year and how it'll shape up.

I'm entering the GP qualifiers next season. Janowski's title sealed it and the contract for Hancock to be my team manager is in the post as we speak. Everything he's touched this season has turned to gold.

Mikko Rahko is the new longtrack Finnish champion after winning the A-final before Rene Lehtinen by a half a bike's lenght. Jani Pirttinen was 3rd and Aarni Heikkilä 4th. I thought it was a good meeting with a couple of excellent races. There was enough good racing and so much drama that I thought this was the best LT meeting I've seen! Nemo continues his reign as the Finnish champion. He won the rerun of the final before Juha Hautamäki and Tero Aarnio. First try saw Jari Mäkinen excluded after he was passing Tero Aarnio on the backstraight for third. Controversial is an appropriate term for the decision, since I thought Aarnio turned left on him in the middle of the straight. Mäkinen had already gated and was in control entering the first bend, but hit a rut and lifted allowing everyone pass him. In the semi Mäkinen was first before Hautamäki, Teemu Lahti and Mika Loppi. Anyone seen a reliable set of results from the Holsted round??? I've been trawling through and seen three different ones all originating from the Holsted website. MJJ's scores also have been altered at some point. Please PM if you have the full spreadsheet.

Reading the Holsted website they say (I think) that Jonas B Andersen's bike has been left at the border because the paperwork does not add up. So Denmark is going to Balakovo with 4 bikes. Doesn't surprise me, since a year or two ago Kai Lehtinen's trip to an European Championship ice racing meeting in Russia was stopped at the first border station on the Russian side for similar reasons.

Finland was also asked to do this a couple of weeks ago. FIM has put up some extra money for the teams travel, so to just travel it might work out. When adding the missed meetings during the 4+ days missed in Europe and cost of racing it's adds up to a pretty big expense for the riders. Argentina 2012 here we come!

The whole GP following Finland has been on overdrive all day trying to find new websites with streams. I answered half a dozen calls myself within the last hour before tapes up. As I understand it (I'm told), you can always pay for it and have it streamed through the GP site for yourself. I have no problems listening polish, at least they get excited and even if it's total drivel, they still sound like experts!

Sand Blowers from Hyvinkää are the SM-liiga champions of 2011. It was really close with SB needing a 4-2 from the final heat of the season against their championship rival Keittiöpiste. A 3-3 draw would have given the title to Keittiöpiste. Messing gated and Mäkinen was left at the back in the first corner. Teemu Lahti kept second for a lap while Aki-Pekka Mustonen tried REALLY hard to keep Mäkinen at the back. He did not succeed though and when Lahti had a near tumble Mäkinen thanked and flew by... The track had improved immensely from July. It still had to be graded every three heats, but it was much better than last time. He nearly did, again. I heard today that he was so angry with himself after saturday's fall when he really did cost Keittiöpiste the meeting, that he stopped talking to everyone and just sat quiet... When he fell while challenging Nemo yesterday, he quickly got up, jumped over the fence and gave hell to his toolbox and other gear. But he is really fast and as I understand he only turns 17 this November. I spoke to him after the meeting with the help of his mechanic and he seemed a good bloke (or the mechanic gave his own version of it all ). I wished him all the best and he seemed to appreciate my efforts. The track at Pori was exactly what I like for a Finnish meeting. Rock hard in the beginning with material gathering to the outer third of the track on bends after 6 or so heats. Not dusty at all as all the spray was wet enough to be down on the track before the riders were back at it again on the next lap. There were some really good battles, but the best was Jari Mäkinen's clean pass over Kauko Nieminen in heat 14. He got under him exiting turn 4 and dived again entering turn one and pushed him away. It was great, shame I had to duck when they rode past me, otherwise I'd be R/R for the rest of the season myself. Hyvinkää next saturday with great expectations... SM-liiga at Kuusankoski last saturday. Hyvinkää won by a point after (I'm told) Lebedev fell while leading A LOT. Also his retirement earlier was from the lead after his chains had snapped. One of the reasons perhaps is that the Vetlanda club is one of the biggest and most "healthy" financially allowing them to take the risk of a meeting this big. Just to add some heat I want to say here, that the two U21 indivual finals scheduled for Bahia Blanca, Argentiina next year are confirmed. This was told to me by CCP member Teromaa in July... Denmark said on in July that they were going to be there and win. I wonder whats gonna happen now.
