World Cup Qualifier 1 22/4
f-s-p replied to Islander15's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
This one was one those meetings where you had to be there to believe it. Training was cancelled due to rain, according to Aarnio's mechanic the right tool to ride the track was a canoe on sat evening. Still wet when I got there at around 1030. Finland got a great start, gates had a part in it but still. we continued that until heat 12 when Aarnio beat Smoli (no questions, fair and square) and at that point it was pouring even more. It was started raining heavily after/during heat 9 when Hautamäki was on, and at one point it was raining pieces of ice, the size of a diamonds two big for my wallet. Anyway, the meeting was in no way dragged by the ref, in fact the gradings were skipped to carry on. Then there was the break after 12, we were tied with DE with 7 or so wins against 4 or so and were winning with the track soaked, still raining and a 30 minutes break. So what happens next? It clears, our guys lose their edge, Germany keeps up and the Latvians get fired up... Like I said, you had to be there. You would have hated it. but the results by themselves dont tell even 5% of what happened. -
It means it's moved forward due to track conditions which in this case means that it's been winter for too long. For the past two years that track has opened today/this weeekend of April.

Just got back home and straight after putting my incredibly cheap liquor to it's place I checked that there was no mention of an APD (air fence) coming mandatory or even provisional for 2012 in the 2011 rule book. There was work done and plenty I'm told to get a fence to Finland, but in the end there was no realistic plan to store and uphold it, so the federation backed out and gave the meeting away. There have been a few projects to get a fence in various tracks and a couple are rolling as we speak and have a chance of materialising, but they wont happen for this meeting anymore. They are big projects involving EC money and stuff like that, even Seinäjoki did'nt want to pay for the fence by themselves and they have been the "biggest/most economically balanced" club in Finland for the past few years.

Lahti brothers Timo and Teemu are on lahtiracing.fi News also in english and rider comments weekly. -
Since I'm holding a beer on my other hand a my Sh!tPhone in the other on the shoreline of Lake Como I cant quote the rulebook but it's there. From what I was told last year Timo Lahti/Finland is actually the first ever rider/Federation that has received an uem fine, so why bother testing with FIM and fine 15 times as big. The ban is for fim meetings, not leagues.
-
Now announced in Finland that the U21 quali has been given away because the FIM wants an airfence for this meeting. So far there isn't even one in Finland and none were apparently available for hire abroad. Denmark will host this now and the last I heard our top guns will give it a miss. In my opinion the U21 wc has turned in to a joke with the current system of 7 or what finals. Finland as an example we have two riders of that level that they could make the series. They are not interested to invest that amount of money to ride in it, 10-15 k in euros has been mentioned. And having qualified from their quali, they have ride in the semi or face FIM ban for the rest of the season and a fine between 10-100k.

Järf had an injury from saturday and said something along the lines that his left leg and hand were more or less "out"...
-
Happy to be surprised for what Järf and Aakko have done.

A crowd of 5212 saw Elitserien ice racing earlier this week in Stockholm, Sweden. Tickets 100 kr (around 11,5 euros) apiece and a few hot drinks and korvmedbröds sold... You do the math. My turn for a lie down...

Countback is as clear as crystal, but... As long as I remember there's been a rerun to determine qualifications and podium places. But not now. In longtrack they even do reruns after the final of the meeting is ridden if riders are tied on points. Thats crap! Anyway, has anyone have any idea where the online saturday scores from the FIM site have gone?

I did indeed try and stir a bit last saturday AFTER visiting my lovely top range sauna facilities and it had nothing to do with LACK of beer. I found it "not so good" that websites were saying he's through and he's not, when it appeared that the info had no foundation. Aktuellspeedway.se for example said Svensson was through and it was credited widely in Sweden... Not so good... Makarov's case, he was a reserve rider and should have gone through. Instead he was a riding outside the meeting and his points did not matter? Whats that... But two Finns through, I expect Järf to do well this time. EDIT: It's winter here, -23,3 currently outside and should be around -25 for the rest of the week. Record low for this winter last night somewhere up north was set at -39,something.
