Swindon End Of Era Meeting.
van wolfswinkel replied to a4poster's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Perhaps they could transfer the grass-banks bars and bogs of the Abbey to the new site 50 yards away..don't bother with the snack bars and kiosks they're crap. Temporary seating could be installed if needed. The retractable roof can come later. -
Well done Woffy

Let us know how you get on, we're going out for this next year. Bruv cant wait...450-mile 1 hour flight Adelaide-Melbourne, as opposed to 8-hour drive. -
1921 then That were nuthin lad...there were 43 of us living in a shoe box in middle of t'lake, we worked 25-hour shifts. Dad used to whip us with broken bottle if we were lucky.

When have Swindon speedway club ever given a toss about their fans? That's why they've lost hundreds. -
Swindon Town FC have also banned the independent media. The Radio Devon guy who announces the speedway results is me old mate Vic Morgan, fanatical Town fan and occasional visitor to the Abbey.

Cheers guys

Was great to watch Briggo and Broady do a couple of laps on their old Jap machines on Sunday at Blunsdon. Would go NZ best pair of Briggo/Mauger, then Swedes Fundin/TRick, and Danes Nielsen and Gundersen.

Precisely...probably a few don't go because of this, a new stadium would increase crowds, but by the sound of it wont be happening for start of next season. Had to laugh a few months ago a tyre was on the ground to cover up a hole on the terraces, and a kiddie was talking to his dad and tripped over it..farcical but bloody funny though! -

Perhaps they went for the retro-feel, at least they swapped the Izal shiny rolls for softer kinder material, and installed light-bulbs, toilet seats, water, and door-locks. The speedway club don't own the stadium though, and on dog-racing nights that part of the stadium is inaccessible to the public. -

The man clearly doesn't care about his partner's well-being otherwise he would have escorted her to the main stand bogs, that my missus used after her back-straight experience last time. I overheard Clive Hitch saying"bloody ell are they still there". -

Excellent post...wouldn't have thought many of the 14000 members remain on here, so many negative fannies. Probably a tiny fraction of Robins fans actually contribute, it seems half on here don't go anyway. -

The bulbs, there are 3 of them, are worthless, I was more interested in the 1940s metal bog-roll holders that can be sold as antiques or melted down. Someone had nicked that yellowing 60s Daily Mirror when Briggo was world champion. I suppose there will be a "Welcome Back to The Abbey" meeting with souvenir £5 programme again, Don't think Batch will turn-up for this one. And there wont be any fireworks left. -

Was hit by enough shale on the terraces last night to collect a bagful! -

Swindon speedway wont wither and die...they're an established top 4 Elite club with fantastic support. Was upset when they said don't take "souvenirs" as had brought my screwdriver to extract toilet roll holders from The Bogs. They've only just erected the blue plaque on them saying "Lord Lucan lived here for a while", and they are to be demolished, criminal. Good news is if you're dying to use the loo Abbey Rider Training have access to the bogs and the stadium gates are always open when they are doing their motorcycle training there. -
Craig Cook - Where Now?

Craig Cook is a superb rider as he has shown at Poole and Swindon this season, top scorer in the Grand Final at Wimborne Road. -

It didn't look any different to the preceding meeting, the engines were a bit quieter and very slightly slower. -

Decent 3 hours of entertainment, big crowd, car park full, excellent souvenir programme, good to see the old riders there, especially Briggo and Broady on the old machines. Fitting tribute to riders no longer with us. Rosco the last man to ride around The Abbey. Good to see so many kids there. Fantastic fireworks nearly as good as Cardiff! A fitting farewell before moving into the new stadium sometime next year. Batch wont be back after his comments, unprofessional for a club captain! -
Personal Match Of The Season 2015
van wolfswinkel replied to KIRKYLANE's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Swindon-Coventry..one of the best matches I've seen for years at The Abbey. Top-of-the-table Bees were 2 points ahead most of the match, then a Swindon 5-1 from nowhere swung the meeting late on, as they clung on to win. -

Bruv was saying around 40000 attended the Sydney GP with just under 20000 paying punters. Hopefully will be a bigger turnout in Melbourne.
