King's Lynn V Swindon 9th Sept 19.45
van wolfswinkel replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Certainly wont be making the long trip from Wiltshire to Norfolk if Lynn are not at full-strength, would be a hollow victory. -
Long way to go yet, but Swindon and Poole are defo the best teams at the moment. That must be the secret to success, lots of Aussies and a few Poles. Kings Lynn unlucky with injuries. Belle Vue the best team at Blunsdon this year. I watched from the centre-green and Cookie was so bloody fast, should be in top 10 of EL averages. No team can compete with the Roobins top5 at present.

Coventry V Swindon - 21/08/2015
van wolfswinkel replied to Grachan's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Very poor signing indeed could only finish 3rd. in his first race, simply not good enough..must have been his hairstyle that put 'em off I guess. Rosco is a far better motivator. Great stadium to watch motor-cycle racing though. Another superb performance from those ROOBINS and another win at Cov!!! -
Swindon V Kings Lynn 20/08
van wolfswinkel replied to Adder's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Very good crowd of around 1500, (car park looked pretty full), considering the weather, Wardy total class yet again, he's putting a few hundred on the gate. Unlucky Darryl. Lynn were totally abysmal first-half but won the second-half once they got positive about the track! Lindgren and Bjerre are dire thesedays for ex-GP riders. Racing in the main processional. First time I've seen the lights go out! delay of about 15-20 minutes. Good to see so many staying for second-half youth racing. Don't think there's a better top 5 than the Rockin ROObins, Summers is another great signing at number 2. Onwards and upwards! Be good to get more Swindon fans on the forum to get up to the Hill to watch meetings! -

Well done to the Aussies, a hard-earned point, another superb max from Darcy...lost at reserve. Good win for the Mancs, and good to see decent crowd. -

After BV's easy win at Blunsdon would have said a home win, but with Darcy Ward anything can happen. -
As a nipper from nearby Peckham we used to walk to the dogs and speedway at New Cross, occasional visits to the Lions Den, we mainly went to The Valley, then when the Addicks were away it was Dulwich Amlet or any of the other Div 1 teams in the capital, Arsenal, Chelsea, West Am, Spurs, or nearby Palace. Speedway at Wimbledon, West Am, Ackney when New Cross closed. Horse racing at Sandown, Kempton, and the local cricket team Surrey at The Oval. Local rivals Kent sometimes played at Blackheath.
-
Two were caught by stewards, and the other one evaded capture and climbed over a fence on the 3rd/4th.bend. Dunno where he went from there, probably ended up stark naked in the nearby Tescos store! Hope your Pie'n'Mash tour is going ok...get mine delivered to my home in Swindon from Manzes in Peckham, was there last year before visit to an Arsenal game.

There have been a couple of attempts in Swindon with a sizeable London population from the 50s/60s/70s. Thing is they were in the town centre and not where most of the Londoners lived on the council estates mainly in the east of the town, and soon closed. Get mine delivered from my old local Manzes of Peckham..luvverly jubbly!

Swindon's New Stadium

It 'll be great to have a seat and not have to carry yer own in. With a decent view. If its based on Cardiff great, 70,000-plus seats and a roof! -
Best Car Parking / Security Teams
van wolfswinkel replied to Mike.Butler's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
One of those would be Irene. I was a steward for 1 match, but my plan of watching speedway for free was thwarted as I was sent around the back of the stand to look for kids climbing in. There were none. I work around the North Wessex Downs so know the Uffington White Horse well. The White Horse thatched pub is in the hamlet of Woolstone a few miles away. We take our huge wire-haired Dachshund(sausage dog)Bertie for walks around the Downs, great places to walk in 4 counties of Wiltshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, away from built-up areas such as Swindon and Reading, you have places such as Vale of the White Horse, Avebury/Silbury Hill,The Ridgeway, Watership Down, Kennet and Avon Canal, Barbury Castle, Liddington Castle, Savernake Forest, and the market towns of Hungerford and Marlborough, and a few thousand racehorses train on the Lambourn Downs, just over the hill from Uffington. -

Irene at Blunsdon is a splendid smiley steward, so are most of the others...you must have ended up in the pits car park! -
Time will tell, he has certainly built up a rapport with the Swindon fans, chatted to him when the riders mingled with the fans last meeting. Hopefully will grow out of the stupid off-track behaviour, such a natural talent on a bike, reminds me of Barry Briggs. Was a shame Leigh wasn't ruthless enough to be world champion, but superb skipper and team-rider for The Robins, moreso than the great Briggo.

Bloody ell "Marra" cant see them surviving on those crowds. Were always one of the best supported teams in the PL. Swindon's crowds have dropped in the last 10 years from 1700-1800 to about 1200, but the arrival of Darcy Ward should encourage a few back. The loss of Leigh Adams here, and Stoney the legend, and Steady up there could have led to a decrease. Kildemand started up at DP then ended up at Swindon, and Steady, the two Wrighty's(pity James has gone backwards but young Charlie is doing well for the Robins)and Howarth have ridden for both clubs. Remember when Steady beat Adams to win the Stoney testimonial. The Comets always threaten to be title contenders but never quite manage it. Hull pipped them in 2004, and the battles between Zagar of Reading and Steady. That got me back into speedway after a 30-year break at Swindon from the 70s! Remember the characters up at Worky, Mystic Mel(now deceased), and the guy who stood at the front of the seats who was murdered in the massacre. Gromet the Comet! Why have fans been banned? Good luck for the future, still have rellies in Aspatria so may visit DP again one day...good memories.

Followed the Comets in 2004/5 in the days of Stoney Steady Wrighty Kauko Rusty Woodifield Collins Tacey etc., when I lived in Cumbria. Now living in Swindon so lost touch with events at Derwent Park. Loved the atmosphere on a Saturday night in the main stand, and the Premier League Fours nights with crowds of 2500. Remember the 3 streakers!!!.Read recently crowds have plummeted from 1200 10 years ago to about 800, and they're struggling... why?

Swindon's New Stadium
van wolfswinkel replied to remembertheracers's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
perhaps they could source some huge plastic sheeting to act as a roof..it is annoying when we had decent weather last Thursday. I think some people lose interest if there isn't weekly racing, others probably couldn't afford a weekly speedway fix, and like football and rugby attend fortnightly. Forecast wrong yet again...and would have been on if Sky were present. -
Swindon V Coventry - 13-08-2015
van wolfswinkel replied to Grachan's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Think this one possibly could have been raced... dry in Royal Haydon End now. Working in Zummerrzet all day was dry but seemed a bit wetter the further east I went. Tore up the M5/M4 to get home, and surprised to see the wet roads in Swindonia. Would have been on if Sky were there. Any news on re-scheduled date? Thing is they give these advanced forecasts and are wrong half the time, which affects people's livelihoods...guest houses/hotels/outdoor events etc., Torrential rain and thunderstorms my arsenal! -
Wolverhampton V Swindon 10-8-15

Saw this happen in a punch-up outside a gay pub in Swindon...then the law arrived and the bag and chinos were confiscated, and 2 speedway fans put in the cells.
