  1. Brilliant result for The Robins in Knobland, great comeback, most thought they would be given a good knobbing. Well done Peter the Killer. Bring on the play-offs!!! GO ROBINS!!!
  2. Good Luck to the Islanders, friendly club, enjoyed my visit there a few years ago
  3. Seen some good team riding at The Abbey this year, especially Darce and also Troyboy. Leigh Adams with Zagar one of the best pairs in 2009, Leigh on the inside, and Matty blasting round the boards. Briggo wasn't a great team-rider.
  4. Well done to the Mancs...best team at Blunsdon this year. Would rather face Poole or Cov in semi.
  5. WE like them as they are, they should be a listed building, and not demolished to make way for housing. It's a shame you have never had the pleasure of using them. I will miss the blood-curdling cries of people that have used them. At least Swindon fans wont have to bring their owns seats next year.
  6. Yes Troyboy should be up there in the top 8 with fellow GP riders such as Iversen Doyley Janowski even Bomber. Poor display at Cov at number 1. Darce was probably better skipper material than Troy, and seemed to motivate the riders more. Zengy has had a great season. A massive thanks for Darce for getting The Robibs into the play-offs, such a shame what has happened to this great young talent.
  7. Obviously bit of a subdued atmosphere tonight after Darce's injury , but good win for The Robins, good crowd, and Zengy unlucky not collect max. Just one win needed to gain play-off spot. Massive collection for Ben Fund which was great, riders coming around to collect with buckets.
  8. Regular fortnightly racing would be ok...as some people especially families cant afford to go every week. Ridiculous situation at The Abbey in June, only 1 home meeting, and an empty stadium on some warm sunny Thursdays.
  9. Its all bloody dear now. Used to stand on back-straight after successfully climbing in, and then collect the pop bottles for refunds at the bar there. Then spent half the meeting pushing each other over the banks. Went home on the Cavi Square special, those green Bristol omnibuses with more money than we went with sometimes! We used to watch the second-half final from the top deck window as sometimes they left early. It always seemed to be Briggs, Broady, Ashby, Kilby in the final. Rosco the little club mascot having a spin afterwards.
  10. Yep 'er indoors wants to attend so weather permitting the chairs will be on the grassbanks up on The Hill tomorrow eve.
  11. Agree Arsene...he has Iversen above Ward in the EL section...total bollox!
  12. Over the last 10 matches Darce has averaged 10.40, currently top of the EL averages, and would be a fitting tribute for the poor lad to finish top after what's happened..would have thought Janowski was the nearest to him anyway, and surprised Freddie is in there. Good to see Cookie in there at 10...the Cumbrian super speedster. Batch is back to form but where's Zengi? Holder Bjerre King and Andersen disappointing this year. Current averages as per last Thursday's Star: Ward Janowski Iversen Doyle Harris Jonsson Schlein Newman Holder Zagar
  13. So barrowboy how is Iversen above Ward in those 10 meaningful matches!?
  14. I reckon they're all small crowds now mate. Too many promoters in the past took too much out of the sport.
  15. We don't have any near neighbours now at Swindon, with local rivals Oxford and Reading gone, the nearest are Poole and Coventry , about 70 miles away! Don't think announcing attendaces would make any difference. Some clubs have such small crowds would probably only take you 5 minutes to count 'em all!
  16. Years ago you could actually go right into the pits and get the autographs of the likes of Briggo, Ashby, Kilby, Broady etc., most of the riders were local and the fans had an affinity with them. The security is stricter now. Most locals could name the team, who rode for them for years. Seems to be little rapport with the fans now, it's good when the riders can go into the crowd and chat with the fans, especially the youngsters, doesn't happen enough. Last year the riders went into the crowd collecting for the SRBF, had chat with Killer and Gustafsson, was so popular with the fans the announcers had to appeal for them to return to the pits. Why do they bother having a victory lap, maybe a couple of hundred stay and applaud, most riders offering half-hearted waves or checking their phones, then off they go to their next meetings overseas. Doesn't attract younger fans, the ice-hockey and football clubs seem to make a lot more effort with community-based events, what happened to the local school visits by the speedway club? Rosco has a truck-driving job so aint got the time. Give out free air-horns, very little atmosphere at all at Blunsdon. Seems the fans at Blunsdon are kept in the dark, and told they are negative if they get concerned about the new stadium. Do yerselves a favour Swindon Speedway get the fans more involved if you want bigger crowds, and promote it more.
  17. Little interest for me at the moment but The Robins should give the Lions a good spanking..55-36 ish. DO IT FOR DARCE SWINDON!!!
  18. Also have lost my appetite for the shale sport at the moment and unlikely will be going on Thursday like a few hundred others. Hope they win. Would be a fitting tribute if they won the title for Darce, he turned The Robins season around in just 10 meetings and 50 rides.
  19. Hope Darce is going to be ok..was a joy watching him in his 3 home appearances for The Robins this year, hundreds of extra fans attended Blunsdon because of his superb riding style, the crowd was buzzing again, probably be a morgue-like atmosphere for the next home match, his riding matched the excitement generated by ex- Robins legends Briggo and Adams, and to think he's topping the EL averages the only rider with a CMA over 10.00, an incredible 116+14 points in 50 rides, and 7 of his 10 meetings have been away! Cant summon up the enthusiasm for the rest of the campaign at present, too many bad crashes this year.
  20. Just about remember the Teo crash, his grave and headstone is the first one you come to in Swindon's cemetery, always red and white flowers there. Was in a coma for 20 weeks before he died, a harmless looking fall. Watched a pre-war crash on youtube from Austria, the rider died after riding into a bloody metal staircase on the track. And if Chris Holder states the bikes are too powerful for some of the small tracks now that's good enough for me.He should know!
