  1. Headlines screaming from the Daily Express says heatwave forecast for the summer, if it's in the Express must be correct. need some warm evenings to get the punters back in.
  2. Just had a shower in Haydon End, about 2 miles from track, at 4.30. Dry now Cant see any sign of start on new stadium yet, unless someone saw the old wheelbarrow there and thought this was it. Someone's telling porkies.
  3. That was the surprising thing...he was appointed captain!!! Can beat anyone on his day.
  4. Unlikely as he's a vegetarian...perhaps someone slipped the key in when he wasn't looking and he doesn't realise it. Or could be his wife's chastity belt key. Superb racing.
  5. I reckon the Roobins can make it 5 in a row and go back to the top of the table...42-48.
  6. I've been to most but the racing doesn't compare to this year's Warsaw feast, it wasn't as good last year though.
  7. Warsaw is above Cardiff for crowd size(almost full) and excitement and passing...superb stuff, now the world's biggest meeting. Never see this kind of racing in British GP.
  8. It's actually the key to Natalie's hotel room
  9. Great news but I'm concerned away fans could clash with the notorious "Back-Straight Bog Crew", and selling alcohol can only increase the problems, a daft move IMO. Will extra stewards be employed, and new fences erected to counter this?
  10. Superb rider, was a real shock... and Richardson Road on the new Blunsdon estate is fitting tribute to his time with Swindon.
  11. Great bloke, down-to-earth and funny, had some good chats at his boozer the Jovial Monk. At least they have a road named after him on the new Blunsdon Meads development opposite the pub he ran.
  12. Bloody ell just got back from holiday in Poole and saw the Rockin Roobins are top after winning at Belle Vue without Doyley!, Fantastic scoring from Tunny, and heat 11 was superb. They were second from bottom, and are now at least top until Monday. Hope they can do the double over Lynn to stay there. Well done guys, Need big crowd at The Shabbey next week. With new consortium and new stadium things are looking up for west-country speedway fans. GO ROOBINS!!!
  13. Don't chase 'em it scares them when you run after them, especially after dark. Sounds a bit rude... sideways with kids!
  14. Life's too short to argue with some anonymous person on the internet. No time for that, I'm off to the garage to put a card in my bike's back-wheel and do some cycle speedway with the local kids.
  15. At least you save money by avoiding the barbers .
  16. Never give up son...just find someone with an equally big belly, like wot I did. Only the other day I was at the gym and said to the trainer "Which machine do I need to use to impress that lass over there?. He replied "Try the cash-machine outside the door you fat sod". As long as someone has two arms and two legs you're in with a chance...don't have to have own teeth and hair at that age. And you get discounted meals and travel when 60...it's great.
  17. Speedway is far from dead Gresh, it's clinging on to life, you should have been at The Abbey last night. A reasonable's night's entertainment for yer 17 quid. No different for me than when I started going in 68. Even stood in the same place. It's just not as exciting perhaps because of a lack of noise from a lot less fans. It will always exist in one form or other, part-time or 1 big league could be the way forward, but it was tickety-boo last night, and for me the number 1 sport in the UK.
  18. Good luck Cookie, should be getting more overseas opportunities, superb rider.
  19. Joint 2nd. now for The Roobins...this Doyley bloke can be the next Leigh Adams, should walk the Elite Riders league and can go one better than Leigh did in GPs. Was untouchable last night. Average meeting, average crowd. Why when you put on 2 layers at home you get to The Stade and need an extra 3! Good tribute to Lee Richardson, almost 4 years since his tragic death, fitting tribute with the road named after him on Blunsdon Mead development. Spot on son Nearly, AJ couldn't ruffle his own hair tonight. Lawson and Nilsson pretty good, Swiderski awful apart from 1 heat.
  20. Think it was ok last year...come out of the station and its right there near stadium.
  21. Haven't had Bovril since about 1975 at the County Ground, when I used to serve it from the Town End kiosk, bloody hate it now, nearly as bad as Marmite. Its getting some of those missing 2000 back that went to the 2007/9 Grand Finals but didn't bother to go in 2012. Probably went when Leigh Adams departed. They would have had decent crowds if they had been in the new stadium, know a few people that wont go again after attending the so-called Farewell meeting that wasn't. I think another hurdle for people is the cost of watching speedway at Blunsdon at present. My next door neighbour and her lad went with us for the first time and loved it, but he can only go in school holidays because of the late finish. A spell of decent weather and good results will get those feet back on the grass banks of Blunsdon. But you have so many blank Thursdays where fans lose interest.
  22. Great news for The Roobins. With the new stadium around the corner, and the team turning the corner, can only see great times ahead for Swindon speedway club. With a good weather forecast for tomorrow hopefully be a decent crowd up on The Hill, and not just the usual 1000 or so diehards. Needs a local guy to inject some interest into the club, with better promotion, to attract fans from the massive catchment area within 40 miles of Swindon. From my cabbie-days I recall junction 15 Swindon East and junction 16 Swindon West being about 8 miles from the stadium. Obviously junc.15 to stadium a lot quicker, but fans can avoid the roadworks on the 419 by using junc.16 then heading east down the M4 to Berkshire. Also cutting through Highworth to Faringdon for fans living in Oxfordshire, avoiding the A420, as the sliproad will be closed tomorrow evening by the old Madison Hotel/ St.Margarets Retail Park.
  23. Easy home win I reckons, about 55-35 to the those Roscos rip-roaring Rockin Rampant Randy Red Roobins. Sliproad from A419 to A420 Oxford road, closed by St.Margarets Retail Park/Sainsburys tomorrow late evening, probably best to go Highworth-Faringdon Road then join the 420, or you can cut through South Marston village to the 420, turn off at Honda junction.
  24. I followed The Dons after New Cross closed in '63, the only team souf or the river, and we used to go to West Am and Ackney as well. Remember Nygren, Hedge, Luckhurst, Cowland etc., from around '67. Split loyalties when moving to Swindon when The Dons visited.
