Thank You Shazza......that is very disappointing of you!!
-
Thank god for that C49 I thought I was hearing things!!
-
Bought my ticket walked five yards and had it marked and inspected, got my prog by the grandstand, £2.50, hope that was a one off into the tunnel and ticket inspected again and made my way across pit entrance, didn't see any staff tho!! Thought, that's going to be an issue if someone arrives late and wants the bend/back straight location and your looking to get across the pits, bit dangerous that at a motor sports event or, are you going to be stopped and told, it's grandstand only for you mate? Yeah, it was a bit messy but first time normally is so, we'll see what happens next time, doesn't appear to be the best of ideas tho.....??
-
Used to get good stuff from the mobile eatery on the first bend, judging by these comments they'd have made a killing last night?
-
Pretty moderate first meeting for me, gate and go for most of it with a handful of good races thrown in? First three were probably the best on the night and deserved to be there tho that blatant rolling start by Wells in the last possibly cost Nicholls that third place, on count back he'd beaten Howarth previous so could have nicked the podium with a win, amazed he wasn't pulled back for that old Ricky?? Seriously hoping that Rasmus has a better engine than that one, wont get round DP in front on that thing, well off the pace? Liked the look of Campton/Bewley and young Bickley showed some promise tho I think he knows now just what he's up against, still, he'll do a job for us, dont doubt that!! Fairly ordinary performances from Bach/Klindt but they should improve alright so for a first look in I'm happy enough with what I saw of the team tonight, definitely up against it with some of these guys which we did expect but.....we'll be OK once we get going!!
-
Marwan Koukash, that guy takes no s**t from anyone so if he was looking to invest in a SL side for Cumbria it would take a brave man to say "no" too him? That's what I mean C49, new facilities springing up everywhere, the problem we have is that the sport on offer doesn't justify the spend involved, far too parochial in these parts to merge Town/Haven or even develop a SL team via imports/outside the county players etc as they would then only argue about the location of the stadium instead? The time for a new stadium at DP was in the days when we had a SL side and could have benefited from the crowds at the time, the directors had the golden egg, unfortunately.........they dropped it? I think the only time any new stadium would be built in Workington would be as and when the Comets fold and it's no longer an issue as to who to satisfy, then, one ground for two teams working on the same field dimensions is a cinch!!
-
Had to laugh at this Comet49, what fans are they talking about?? Considering that the council own and subsequently "let" the grounds to both clubs how have both been allowed to become the "s**tholes" they are yet still expect the paying punters to cough up top dollar to stand in them?? Many clubs have nice tidy grounds and have had for many years, it's what encourages people to come too them, clean and modern facilities, perhaps if the council and clubs had promoted better use of funds into their grounds, and both have had, these facilites could have been improved many years ago to the benefit of both, bit late in the day to think about this now and as Jenga says "it'll never happen"
-
Not with this promotion you won't, if it's not on the list it doesn't happen?
-
If that's correct Midget then we'll have to see what they bring to the party this time? Not overly impressed with either last time around so..... who knows!!
-
To be fair I wouldn't have either of those, been there done them and no tree pullers among em? Going to be difficult for sure finding a good pairing but what are we prepared to settle for, the devil you know or someone completely different and take a chance?
-

Reading the T&S today and it's looking like the promotion have never bothered to contact Matt about coming back? He was expecting to and wanted to but he never got any word from any of them to offer him a place, he doesn't know if it's pts or they just don't want him, wont say, Cookie suggested he go to Edinburgh, so he has..... oh dear, hope this is some side we're building.............. on the quiet?
-
Probably a good move for Matt, he wasn't improving as much with us really but that's probably due to circumstances well documented all ready and a shift to a new club/track who can bring rider's on and, more importantly, know how to win will benefit him enormously!! Just hope the lack of a phone call and promise of a job here doesn't come back to haunt us later on?
-
Exactly, we like to make them unhappy ourselves once they've arrived!!
-
Well, anything really? It's all very well saying we're "talking to riders" but lets have some meat on the bones, how well are the talks going do they look promising, are we close too any deals, will we even like him, we've got some irons in the fire as fall backs....possibly "european" nudge nudge, anything can be said to at least generate some modicum of interest to keep us occupied!! This is make or break year remember and we cant afford to be broke before we even start!!
-
Considering the palaver that's going on already with this team building/not building and the stories already posted on here, can someone explain exactly why we are even bothering running next year? Slowly but surely we are just developing a calamity in waiting, once again as in previous years, no interaction from the promotion as to what's going on, no ideas as to whom we might be looking at, riders allegedly signed that aren't, riders wanting to come back but not yet offered anything, trying to entice back riders whom basically wanted to get away from this club and this is not looking good, so far this shambles doesn't fill me with any enthusiasm for the coming season? Hope I'm a little happier when we finally nail seven riders down!!
-
Probably the latter I'd say Scarra, Bickley was already touted as being signed, Bewley only just arriving on the scene yet Campton/Proctor have already expressed a desire to return to the Comets at last seasons end so, I'd be surprised if it wasn't either of those!!
-
Top three mate and for me unfortunately, that includes Barker!! Judging from what I've been reading we have been so slow at tapping up riders we could very well be stuck without any big hitter in "any" position for next year so it could be "solid" but not spectacular, just have to wait and see how long it takes to cobble summat together and hope the lost supporters will take to what the management produce?
-
Reading your post, especially this last bit, is the absolute reason behind the last paragraph of my own. I quoted same old same old wont cut it yet this response of yours is what could very possibly have many people looking at whatever team we end up with and say, it's just like last year and look what happened to them? Now fair enough we may not, and I'm not in possession of, any rider availability lists to give any options to you for possibles but I really do feel that we cannot afford to run as a club with an uncompetitive side if we are to attract supporters back to the fold, I'm sorry but I completely disagree with anyone who just wants "a team to watch" irrespective of anything else, we're in dire straits now exacerbating that situation, in my mind, just isn't an option, we've got to be able to do something with it not just watch? One thing that is starting to bug me on here is this "innuendo" about possible trouble caused by Workington RL, exactly what are they planning to do that is causing issues, surely it is in both sports interests to get along in the best possible fashion to maximise profitability? If anyone knows what is going on then lets read it, what are we up against and how is this going to affect the Comets, surely if activities pending are going to be detrimental to the operation of speedway then we need to know now before we even bother picking anything?
-
In a make or break season that this is very likely to be, if we even get there that is, then it is a complete mystery to me why the likes of Ricky Wells, Richard Lawson and, for some unknown reason, Aaron Summers names are being bandied about as possible signings?? The last thing we need are riders with no improvement left in them, that's been a failed policy from the last couple of years and can't possibly be revisited if survival and improved crowd levels are what you're after? Only Proctor and Campton for me so far being as my first choice of Ben Barker looks dead in the water so, five places left and at least a trio of good scorers required to be in them? Can't think of any off the top of my head as I'm not sure what's left with us being so late to the party, going to need to be good or we're just wasting our time as "same old" "same old" just is'nt going to cut it?
-
Whils't we're clutching at straws in the hope that the thought of 400 supporters thru the gate again will be enough to persuade the promotion to run on next year a rider I'd like to see joining Campton, Proctor and Bickley would be Ben Barker!! Certainly good value for another season or two and, well, Redcar fans seem to like him, hmm..........worth a poach I think??

Well this was definitely a result I was not expecting?? But whatever the how's and why's of it all a win is a win and I'll take that any day, a big thank's to all our guests on the night for producing the goods and to the remaining Comets whom also contributed manfully to the job in hand!! :t: I suppose this is it now, is this the winning swansong to remember us by or the sign of something new for next time around, we'll know probably in the next few weeks so, just gotta sit tight now and, hope for the best!! -

Judging by the lack of information on this meeting I'll have to take it that it was as poor as the scoreline would suggest? What I thought would happen, waiting around too long for the meeting to be arranged, little value to either side, riders going awol, under performing guests, it kinda sells itself for what it was? Probably be seen as the penultimate nail in the lid of the coffin of Workington Speedway, disappointing to say the least? -

With the number of guests/stand ins required by Redcar you could just about see the Comets five times anyway, maybe ask them to just change race jackets at half time and come out again?? -

Must be really difficult for our lads to maintain focus for another week and a half before racing this meeting and even longer when you consider the Newcastle match isn't on the board yet, at least, not that I'm aware of?
