Yes HT, I can see your point but the fact remains that "for me" it's "LIVE" speedway that will ultimately save or finish the Comets? As has been said, you can record the GP's you cant record a Comets home match, bums on seats provides your income and, tho there's no accounting for taste, it's live racing that should win out especially if your struggling with a lack of support? I'm a Saturday man and it's been speedway night for nearly twenty years it's what we're used to and for the most part it's what people expect, I think we've gotten well out of the habit of Friday racing but, it remains to be seen whether the small crowd from the weekend will transfer to the Friday and at the very least the club will stand still or, it becomes a nightmare with even less turning up or, it's the formula we're looking for....we can only wait and see!! Regular racing you say, now there's a novel idea!!

The "ODD" Friday, it's half a season's worth!! What I can't understand is why, with only twelve teams in the league the powers that be still cant come up with a fixture list that provides for regular racing? Out of sight out of mind really does bugger your crowd levels?
-
Pleased that one of us is happy then!!

Quite, but Workington Speedway has always been, this time around, a Saturday night club and you cant just go changing your race day to suit the promotion you've got to have your crowd on your side first, it's not realistic, IMO, to run on Friday night as it's still generally the working week and as you've said, quite a few will be doing exactly that? Times have changed irrevocably since the seventies and although it does of course remain to be seen if the venture will work, customer interest will have been severely dented by this lack of sport ever since the season pretty much started, we're almost beginning from scratch here so it remains to be seen if enough support will come back after such a gap?

Only if Friday's are good for you it is?
-
My season, weather permitting, will be starting in June, only seen Cumberland Open so it'll just be nice to see the Comets as a home team? Definitely not good for the club advertising an event that has very rarely shown itself to the paying public of Workington and the surround for the thick end of two months, not doing anyone any favours at all this, tourist season up and running....shame we aren't?

Sheffield v Workington SGBCL 24/5/18 @ 19.30
Lord Lucan replied to Blackadder's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Disappointing to just come away with one point from this, a small turnaround of four points gets us a narrow away win and with the expected quality in our under performing riders this was definitely a win that got away? I'm not going to point the finger at any of our scoring riders for "falling away" as I've read, but rather at the riders whom didn't coz that's where it's at, these low/middle single figure scores from ht leader positions are going to cost us in the long run and we do need to take a good look into sorting the problem out. Poor losses at Scunny and now Sheffield may have knocked the confidence a bit but we can bounce back and as we've shown, to a certain extent, we can win well if everyone does their job, what would you give for a home meeting right now tho, just to steady the ship!! -
If Bewley is racing in Denmark it will be on the Saturday 16th, if that is the case, and this weekends palaver is anything to go by, there's no way he can ride at Glasgow on Friday night? Dan doesn't have equipment in Europe so they'll have to drive over with it and you wouldn't want that trip from 10pm on a Friday night in Glasgow? Guest rider required again I'd say!!

Redcar v Glasgow 17/5/18
Lord Lucan replied to SuperBear's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
There appears to be a certain similarity of events developing up there as happened with us last season? New season, new club, fresh start it should have been rosy for him, certainly not appearing to be the case and he's travelling a lot further thesedays for next to FA, he's proved before he can mix it at this level just not achieving anything the like? Again, his lack of form is building pressure upon himself and he's failing to deliver as a result, he has to sort his problems, whatever they are, as I doubt Glasgow will hang on to his services for as long as we did....your not as kindly!! -

Noticed BWD banged in a 12+1 for Swindon tonight, gonna be a very big loss to us that scoring power, hope Mason is locked and loaded for his return, he's got big points to score? -

Nah, it clashes with Emmerdale and Corrie, gotta get those priorities right J!! Dont have BT Sport or, whatever it's on thesedays I just wait for YouTube and watch it on there!! -
That would only apply if Jenga knew when the contract started!! (Or anyone else for that matter) Here's another picky M, your post should have read Monday May 21st!! You started off well but fell apart at the finish.

Strangely enough I was reading up on the fixture list the other day and found that after the home meeting with Glasgow on Sat 23rd June we don't have one single Saturday night fixture at DP until Sept 1st, Friday nights and the odd Sunday only, how many people is that going to stop from attending due to work commitments etc, a decent crowd could be watching on updates instead? -
Yeah....but to watch what exactly CC2, we never race here??
-
I'd just like to see this winning team full stop!!

Glasgow v Workington 13th May 4pm
Lord Lucan replied to Gazc's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Another brilliant result for the "middle of the road" Comets, who'd have expected all these shenanigan's when the season started, we're not supposed to be doing this....what's happening?? Probably for the first time in a long time we are starting to take advantage of other people's misfortune, something is clearly working for us here and long may it continue!! Hopefully, and in the not too distant future, I hope to be able to see this phenomena at DP, having only been able to watch the Cumberland Open so far I'm getting rather excited at the prospect, just one problem tho......when is that exactly??? -

Nothing new there then? -
As expected really, hopelessly outclassed at this level but hey, I've always thought he'd grow into the team as the season progresses and he gain's more experience? Not too worried at this time, second half of the season should see him improving a bit so I'm happy enough for now he has the talent he'll grow into this OK!!
-
Certainly never expected that result but hey, I'll take it!! Very impressive all round with stand out performers Ty, Dan and Brad but when everybody chips in it's a team performance and it looks all over exactly that. Panthers not so good tonight and perhaps on another day we'd have a different result but, sometimes your just not allowed to perform at your best and this looks one of those days!! Very pleased with tonight, hope this isn't a blip for us either, onwards and upwards!!

It doesn't really matter if there aren't that many matches nowadays, the point is that, in your opinion, clubs dont run a fixture because their genuine 1 to 7 aren't available then your suggesting that the fixtures are set aside until they have, dont think the season is supposed to last for twelve months because, with the power that riders have now, their priority is earning they will go for whats best for them at that time and how it was prioritised to start with? Re arranged fixtures will always dent the best laid plans, injuries will do the same and as no club can afford a squad to pick from guests are a necessary evil, there is no point to running a competition at the start of the season as a curtain raiser and not finish it until Sept/Oct, as Jenga says, start later, match or two for cobweb removal, league underway!! The paying public will always watch speedway guests or not but the fixtures should be completed by a certain time and no questions asked, clubs know the problems caused by riders going here there and everywhere but they still sign them and run the risk therefore, fixture needs running, guest employed to cover, match completed, it has to be that way or we'll never get anywhere?
-
Only just!!
-
"Weather permitting" of course!!
-
Same old same old? By the time we get started again, in a fortnight's time, most teams will have completed their Shield fixtures and begun racing league instead, we on the other hand will be behind the eight ball, our usual start of the season position........... some thing's never change??
