That's what threw me, I am assuming then that your description of highest average is based on Morris being at six and Mills at seven as according to the figures printed in the prog for the last match, Mills was 3.81 with Morris at 3.62? Could have a chance with a good replacement but still think Monarchs have the upper hand at reserve!! Thank's superstar1, caught the fixtures via another thread!!
-
Certainly will be, dunno where this came from as there is no mention of any matches at home for the Comets this week on BSPA website!! Will be a very good night for Derek Sneddon if he's at reserve for E,boro, a weak Chris Mills and a next in line 3 pointer will get us mullered against a strong team like the Monarchs, why the rush, why do we want to start our play off hopes against a strong team with a weakened side, don't get the thinking behind this at all??

Workington V Edinburgh (pl) 9/9/13 @ 7.00/7.30pm
Lord Lucan replied to Mr Blobby's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Only looked at it from the weather perspective Al but I can see that it would pose a bit of a problem!! Not much of an issue now Scarra especially as the draw is supposed to be made today or tomorrow? -

Weather forecast not exactly brilliant for tomorrow, could be touch and go to get this done, only decent date according to tonight's report would be Wednesday which is... erm, a bit late?? -
One Ht Leader, two middle order men and four reserves, hope that's not a portent for next year's team make up?

Just read the last three pages or so of these posts and the general feeling is always the same, no one "really" likes the play offs but simply accept that we,re stuck with them as a fairer solution cannot seem to be sourced that's acceptable to the majority? League Champions are the team that finishes "TOP" over the course of the "whole" season and are there on merit, until a system comes in that removes all reference to a competition that basically undermines a teams season long effort's by forcing them effectively to "justify" their position as top dog then this argument will just keep on going?

Team Gb V Australia Test Match 17/8/13
Lord Lucan replied to stoneylegend's topic in International World of Speedway
Very good meeting tonight actually glad I went, some very close/fast racing on a super smooth track!! Aus definitely up for this and a far better side put up a much better show than the one at Newky did the other week, the inclusion of all those Somerset guy's showed tonight just what they missed last time out? Excellent performance from Cookie, almost imperious and very quick, Rich Lawson almost the same til he got mugged in Ht15 but hey, everyone gave it a go and some guy's certainly worth more than they got in terms of effort!! Not a bad crowd either considering, so all in all a very good night out!! -
Well, just to heighten your enjoyment White Knight, it was announced at the GB v AUS match tonight that we need to watch the various media formats on Mon/Tues as the two play off groups are to be selected, i.e. whom has picked who so that would suggest to me that the job is done, 16th it is and that will be that irrespective of outstanding matches? Weather forecast is not brilliant over here for Monday's match with E,boro so another washout could also deprive these teams of vital points which could also impact on the final positions especially for the Monarchs!! Absolutely agree with your comment, for what it's worth, top dog at season's end are Champions, much simpler!!

If the league match between Rye & Redcar has now been put back to 28th Sept, the cut off being the 16th, would that not suggest that the SCB have already made the decision to run the play off's as is with Redcar included? They are currently 6th with a better pts difference than Leicester so why allow a fixture that clearly impacts on the outcome of the final table to be run so long after the cut off if you haven't already decided that's what your going to do? Seem to remember that last season these issues were around in the play offs and when the Comets couldn't get a date sorted for our match with E,boro we got thrown out so as not to disrupt any of the remaining fixtures, and we "had" qualified so there's form there!!

Team Gb V Australia Test Match 17/8/13

Certainly got the team line up's to suggest that, with nothing riding on the outcome let's hope the riders go out and enjoy themselves, should be some tasty clashes on show tonight!! -
Workington V Edinburgh (pl) 9/9/13 @ 7.00/7.30pm
Lord Lucan replied to Mr Blobby's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Could have been a possibility Chucks if the test match wasn't dead in the water and having no relevance whatsoever as the series is over as regards a result so it's just pride at stake really, it's a lot too ask at relatively short notice and most people wont pay the higher prices thesedays even if you do have two meetings for the money? -
Workington V Edinburgh (pl) 9/9/13 @ 7.00/7.30pm
Lord Lucan replied to Mr Blobby's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Obviously haven't made myself clear on this, I don't have 2.5hrs available to me to "watch" a meeting when I'm at work same night, I have travel to time to take off as well hence 7pm "would" always be better as it would allow + 30 mins for discrepancies etc!! By the way Abbott, you obviously haven't seen us drag out a Bank Holiday meeting with Berwick, remember one time leaving for work after two hours and had only got to Ht10!! After all this it hasn't mattered one jot, 2 races, shouldn't really have started at all, be tough to get this one in in time now? -
By it's very definition tho a "level break" is exactly that, a "level break", if judging by your comments you mean once all four riders are still behind the tapes then you need to drop the word "break" from your reply and just quote "level" at the start, then whomever gets the start from there is entitled to benefit, if that is so then I would agree with you on that, I too have seen riders get great starts and be pulled back and not just Comets riders, you certainly don't see many skip away thesedays?

Workington V Edinburgh (pl) 9/9/13 @ 7.00/7.30pm
Lord Lucan replied to Mr Blobby's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Said that because we always start at 7pm, why should off night be any different? As previous experience has taught me SS1, you cant guarantee a smooth run meeting and I've chanced my arm before with a tight schedule and found myself short changed by incidents and unnecessary delays too many times, always seemed to happen on off nights and Bank Holidays, hmm... could be a correlation in there somewhere? -
Workington V Edinburgh (pl) 9/9/13 @ 7.00/7.30pm
Lord Lucan replied to Mr Blobby's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Well, I predict that I wont be there!!! I have to work for a living, could have squeezed it in with a 7.00pm start and a following wind so why Workington choose to start off night meetings at 7.30pm when still subject to a 10pm curfew is beyond me?? Think Edinburgh will put up a strong show, cant see anyone taking Cookie on if he's anywhere near top form but I fancy us for a 49-41. -
Didn't expect this result but I'll take it especially after predicting an away loss!! Still, as I've said before and Shadders just confirmed, no matter how bad some Rye riders perform, we can always match them and allowed an almost certain win to disappear, when we learn to kill off the opposition by taking advantage of their weaknesses, that will be the time the Comets start to achieve the success we crave!! Last heat decider again and poor old Rich just cant get it right, points aplenty up til that point and.... bang, misses the gate again Rye off the hook? Still, better performances from Kyle/Chris and we are not in that position, perhaps not quite the same pressure and it could have been so different? But, it is what it is and a draw is better than a loss, confirms Comets play off place, not that that was in any doubt, so Edinburgh on Monday and that wraps up our Lg for this year after that, well, how long will it take to figure out who plays whom, where and when will be the talking points. Into the rainy season now people so let's not start messing about putting meaningless matches on, lets get cracking with the important stuff, pressure off now for us lets go to work?
-
In relation to the play off's, I can never understand why "any" team would want to go out and physically try to finish first at the season's end when only Kudos is up for grabs? If you are to be crowned Champions after a small round robin contest why bother putting all your effort's into the first 24 matches when you only need do enough to get into the top six then go all out from there, and if you came sixth well... your "still" Champions coz, that's what we all agreed, right!!! We are not the only sport that does this, over the last two season's, Leeds Rhinos have finished sixth in Super League, (27 matches), often a long way behind in points in relation to the League leaders and have gone on to play brilliantly in the play off's culminating in them being crowned SL Champions on "both" occasions, worthy.... they like to think so!! Unless someone comes up with a proposal to go back to the "outrageous" idea of Champions being the team whom, well, finishes top, I'd say were stuck with it!!

Ipswich V Sheffield (pl) 05 Sept 2013 @ 19:30
Lord Lucan replied to Witches123's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Fair enough my friend, I can understand where your coming from and yes, it would be hard for a rider to continue when his heads banging and he's not even riding for his own team, to want to carry on regardless!! Hindsight dictates he was the wrong choice but I dare say that Sheff didn't think that when they booked him, these things happen, he's not the first guest to bomb out and certainly wont be the last? . PS, Hope his injury isn't too serious, not a good place to get hurt.. -
Ipswich V Sheffield (pl) 05 Sept 2013 @ 19:30
Lord Lucan replied to Witches123's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Admittedly that is only your opinion HE, but if that were the case then why would Allen take the booking in the first place? All that it,s achieved was an appearance of between 1 and 4 laps, left Sheffield high and dry and contributed nothing to the meeting afterwards, no one turns up deliberately to do that even if they have got an alternative agenda in mind and, to be fair, Rye have a pointless league fixture at home to the Comets on Saturday would he be expected to miss that while waiting for the Cup final, don't think so!! Maybe your knowledge of Ollie Allen tactics is from a far greater depth of experience than mine in which case I bow to your highness but, I just think Dave Hoggard merely dialled the wrong guy for this match, Richard Lawson is his normal speed dial choice and although not always at his best at Foxhall, would probably have hung around a bit longer and given you a better match, (he says)? -
With Rye being more bothered about the KOC than this and Comets management being more than happy with just a top six finish assumes we aren't bothered either, this has all the makings of being one of the best matches at Rye this season!! Despite that, it never seems to matter how bad a side Rye put out we always ride worse here, don't think it will be that bad so I'll go for 52-40?

Were a few rumblings for bringing Charlie back to Workington to replace Chris Mills, nowt happened as usual so only time will tell whether Charlie's new found confidence will translate into PL points, he has had enough chances so if he does do the business this could be a very shrewd move?
