Judging by the season Glasgow have just had, that may not have been no bad idea?
-
Been good for the last few weeks, really smooth and fast but... needs more dirt, latter stages of the meeting saw nearly every rider just going follow my leader round the outside, the "only" place there was any grip?? Don't understand why the blade was not brought out to shift some shale back to the inside instead of just wasting time with that pointless "wonder wheel"!!
-
Not a bad meeting under the circumstances, racing a bit processional at times but little effort spared nonetheless!! Rene deserving winner, looked quick all night and definitely wanted the title tho to be fair to Cookie, he did look pretty nigh untouchable when starting from level terms, busting the tapes 1st up cost him big style? Hope Ulrich is OK following his back flip, looked pretty damn hard that fall!! A mention also for the member of the crowd who was taken ill, hope that's not too bad either, Best Wishes to both. Some non committal answers from a couple of riders for next year and some more positive ones from a couple of others left us in the usual "keep em guessing" state for the winter months but deffo looking like most could be back if the price is right!! Good Luck to Millsy if he doesn't come back, I've always said, and he confirmed last night, it's purely a machinery problem with him, just no speed to compete properly at this level, if effort paid money he would not have been in the position he's been in nearly all year and that's where the Catch 22 comes in, no points, no money, no investment potential, cant get out of it? Best Wishes Chris here's hoping next year will be more fruitful for you!! Well, that's a very early and unwelcome finish for us now, end of March til we get cracking again, six months is gonna be a long time?? Would also like to offer my Thank's and Best Wishes to all the staff connected to Workington Speedway for all the effort put in to making this season as good as it has been, we may have come up a bit short but it hasn't been through want of trying, if next year is as good, if not better then I will be a very happy camper!! One last word tho, during the off season, please track staff, get rid of that banking when you put the air fence up and.... "GET SOME DIRT DOWN"!!! Thank You and Good Day.

You'll be the only one AF, not even a shaman would touch this with a prediction!! Was looking good when I checked the score last night before I went to work, 6pts up thought, Comets could get a result here after all, looked again when I got home, wheels had come off game over!!! Still, never mind, there's always next year? -

Perhaps baldy if the posters had written that the fixtures were for the "Rugby League" World Cup it may have made more sense!! Workington RL applied to host two qualifying pool matches concerning Scotland, whom are being based here for those games, when Whitehaven had to back out after being unable to build a new ground in time, so, allied to the debateable theory that because a couple of Workington players with those international lineage associations like, "my granddad had a holiday there once" may well stimulate some local interest in those matches and make them a few bob? As scarra has pointed out, it will take more than a fortnight to ready that place for international standard sport, but as far as I'm aware no match is scheduled for the Saturday but it could depend on the TV coverage and what night/day they want it played coz as you know, TV rules everything!! Going from some while back, I'm sure the track is being used for television camera gantry's with the pitch being widened to bring it up to international standard, all could be considered as problems for the Comets if those things need to be in a fixed position prior to the the end of the speedway season? May be a serious issue if the other play off group don't get their matches done in a reasonable amount of time as it does state in the Comets fixture list that dates are available only until the 5th of October? -

That developed into a very tidy match which just got a little too close for comfort, wish I could get my lotto No's with that degree of accuracy!! Outstanding performance from the team tonight, dodgy starts included, Rich Lawson was like the Rich Lawson of a few years back and really pushed the boat out, some great manoeuvres tonight!! To be fair tho, the whole team stood up to the plate, Ash should have got more than he did but like Millsy, same thing again, just seems wanting in the out and out power stakes, to my eye that's all that's missing cant fault the effort from both!! For Ipswich easily the standout was Richie Hawkins, rolled a few years back and looked fast most of the night, only failure being the last of 3 on the trot, cant do that on a big track like ours, killer!! Barker was good in patches as was Lanham with Heeps just getting going a bit too late at No2, Tungate was looking good til he t-boned the fourth bend fence at some considerable rate of knots, never seen a better ad for a softer impact point than that one, hope the guy's up and about sometime soon, very nasty looker from where I was? All the best my friend!! Well, that's all we can do now, colours are nailed to the mast it's in the lap of the god's how we do from here or failing that, an Ippo home win Thurs so, come on Witches, do it for us, you know you want to!! Bit of an up to Steve on the mike this evening, my word he was really stimulated by his own, "Do you believe" speech, had a bit of Martin Lutheresque about it!! :D Fair play to him tho, made a change to see him move about a bit and at least I now know what he looks like!! -
Possibly, just that Wells made no secret of his interest in possibly joining the Comets for this year after doing several guest appearances in 2012, think the figures didn't add up after Rusty got the nod for a comeback? Would be a very handy rider to pick up though?

Thank's for that my friend, don't think I shall bother with further investigation, least said and all that!! -
So can I alongside Richard Lawson with Ricky Wells heading in this direction!!

Lord Lucan replied to Monarchlad's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Haven't looked at the in's and out's of this meeting but that was a far better result than I had anticipated!! As suggested, a poor return from Rusty and Rich probably cost us a few extra points especially if some Monarchs were not on completely top form, you never know, if our's had been nearer the mark could have taken back that point we lost last week? But that is our trend, we don't take advantage of others bad days as often as we should, sadly, it is what it is and we have to take it on the chin, bag three points tonight and hope Ipswich do us a favour on Thursday, would be a nice way to extend the season a play off final, here's hoping? -

Par for the course now I'm afraid guy's, very little interest from Comets "fans" on here thesedays, getting a bit dull?? Forum been very slow lately for me in loading up any pages etc and I've given up waiting more times than enough!! As for tonight's meeting, weather is set fair so track should be perfect and looking forward to what should be a very good match up. You Ipswich guy's do yourselves a disservice, do you not remember that the League fixture came off the back of a sixty point tonking here and you promptly waltzed off with 3pts which could have been four!! It is more than possible for you to get a result here, although we will be doing our utmost to make sure that doesn't happen, so don't be too downhearted, you do have form here!! As for Comets, well we deffo need the full house to keep the pressure on E,boro and we do seem to be in the right frame of mind to do the job so I'm looking at a relatively comfortable 50-40 result and hope that Ippo will do us a big favour and down the Monarchs at Foxhall next week? -

Not expecting anything from this match but hope we will keep it closer than normal, points difference could be the "difference"? -

So in other words HT, you've arrived at the same conclusion but via a different route!! -

Doesn't matter who you have at reserve, he'll probably get a few points against us!! Thoroughly expecting a horrible result from this but hoping for something better!! -
Strangely enough he was mentioned tonight, he's still racing in Aus and keeping us informed of his progress so, you could be right!!
-
And on tonight's first showing up here, they've just got a tad hotter!!
-
Couple of very good meetings tonight between two pretty evenly matched sides!! Craig Cook showed why he's top PL man at the moment tho, to be fair, Rene Bach "should" have beaten him 3 times tonight, leaving gaps you could drive a coach and horses through is no way to ride against Cookie round DP, just waited and waited, kept the pressure on then mugged him when the mistake came!! Man of the match for me tho was Schrammy, talk about rolling back the years, best I've seen him ride and by god we needed that sort of performance from someone tonight as our ht leaders didn't have the best of matches today? Big up for Kyle tho, did well considering he's been ill all week and Rusty rode like his old self tonight especially first match, good to see!! Rich rode better second match whereas Rene looked good first up, he seemed a little down on himself second time after losing winning positions against Cookie? Millsy tried hard but just doesn't have the power to compete? Edinburgh were solid throughout without being spectacular, Fricke got better as the night wore on but overall the difference between the sides tonight was Chris Schramm, no disrespect intended, but no way would Ashley have banged in 24+2, without that stellar contribution the Monarchs would have walked this against a hamstrung Comets? They may be a bit disappointed not to have won but that's their problem tonight and it makes a change for me not to be saying that about a Comets performance!! Don't think we'll do much up at their place Friday so our play off hopes lie with a good result at Ipswich on Thurs, gotta get something there now or could be game over for this year? It's still possible at this time so, got to stay positive, Thursday is another day and, you never know!!
-
Then "you" must be in immigration then!!
-
Well isn't that just typical, start of the big matches and riders dropping like flies, hope Schrammy is up for this then, he's gonna have some shed load of rides tonight!! Haven't been on Comets site yet so I'm assuming that it's r/r for Aarnio and hoping Kyle has just had bad guts but will be OK for tonight, be in a spot of bother if he isn't? Can see Edinburgh going all out for this now, 1st match will be a belter, it's the one we both need a good start in, still confident we can win but may have to settle for a two pointer, I'll amend to 47-43. Lg fixture wont be quite as intense so I'll stick me neck out and go for my original 50-40!!
-
You do like your Mason Campton, do you know something we don't? are you in immigration?
-
When mentioned that Schrammy was available to ride in place of Morris I knew we would go that route, probably the best of the choices for this track and it does at least give us a chance of some extra points in the basement? Weather forecast is set fair so should easily get both matches done and dusted. Think the P/Off match will be the more hard fought of the two, far more riding on that outcome but I'm still expecting Comets to come out on top, I'll go for a 50-40 with a similar score for the league match afterwards?
-
May have been a tad harsh with your original selection so on reflection I shall amend that to 1 Ht Leader, "3" middle order men and 3 reserves!! Cant get fairer than that they are what they are? As I have mentioned before, this could be the general make up of any team next year depending on November's summit so it might be as good as it gets? Lot of if's about those choices tho, Campton not even guaranteed to get a visa, Wrighty has had more PL chances than enough so although doing well now short term at Somerset, can he do it for a whole season at this level? Ashley is good but I would have liked him to be around the 5pt mark by now and he is worth that, Rusty is a bit hit and miss, Howarth deffo has the right credentials so no qualm's there, Rich, bit of a question mark about his future at the moment, will he even be here and Micky Dyer was good early doors so could be better again next time round? But hey, Thank's for the team selections Diamonds, by the start of next season you could have done our promotions work for them, keep em coming my friend I await the next instalment!!
