Somerset V Workington Koc 9th April
Lord Lucan replied to oldtimer's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Couldn't agree more, certainly didn't help us tonight? No slur intended OldS, stand out for me is on the basis of 5 rides, 5 wins no one comes close type of performance, Somerset had each rider within a much of a muchness of each other hence, solid throughout and that's what won it for them..... apart from the obvious? Got to agree GM, we are not performing all together as we had hoped nor improving fast enough, maybe the next few weeks will see something more positive when we can maintain our "full" side for a while, if not then I'm afraid that the whiff of all previous Comets sides will be back to haunt us, no improvement and lack of decisive action early enough will bring another blank season from what promised to be a good one, we'll see!! -

Well, I'm afraid I'm pretty disappointed then!! Two men showed up the rest obviously didn't, had a quick look at the scorers on updates and as I had suspected Somerset had no stand out performer just solid all the way through the team!! No real point looking for excuses, panned by a better side, game over for this year? Comets need to regroup and try and work out where we go from here, that type of performance simply not acceptable, all it proves is that we were very possibly over hyped at the start of the season and reality has kicked in, that is now two sides we will probably struggle against in the PL, (E,boro the other, so far) so we have serious work to do if we are to "really" offer ourselves as Championship material, no point burying our heads and pretending everything is alright it clearly isn't, some cracks are showing? KO Cup gone, LC probably is as well so realistically there is now nothing stopping us going all out for the PL Title, right, no distractions now, but will that be enough will changes need to be made to make that happen, next few weeks are going to be quite interesting!! Good Luck you Reb's in the next round, at least your still in the running to have a pot to p*ss in come season's end!! -

Quite agree, one of speedway's great anomalies, maybe this type of thing should come under some sort of "cup tied" rule, having ridden for one of the clubs involved in this he shouldn't be allowed to ride for the other in the 2nd leg, how you make it work in the mercenary world of speedway is another matter? 14pts should be enough and I think I shall be pretty disappointed if we don't come away with an aggregate win, Somerset will be tough and certainly not going to lie down based on their performance at DP and their general home form but, we should be good enough to claim the prize, looking at around the 48-42 mark, that'll do nicely!! -

Weather permitting!!! With the way the league's are set up this year if we find a young British rider who end's up doing rather well what's stopping some Elite club from moving in and snaffling him off you to bolster their own side? Might only be for the odd matches but, they could be vital for you, already lost Ash for two/three meetings so far and that was only down to pre season planning to minimize the effects? -

Think the consensus is Jenga that we require Chris to be due more than "one" good meeting sometime soon, two performing reserves are much better than one as it gives you more scope and, over the years, Comets have often failed to deliver the trophies because of holding on to under achievers for too long!! Mills does have the experience and the ability do well, he just doesn't show it often enough for too many people? -

Force of habit, back in the old days heard the term used "Newky Brown" for your Ale and it's just stuck, this has also been mentioned as a descript in another post so I'm glad that it still resides as a term so, Many Thanks to that man for bringing it up/validating it's use!! thought for a minute I was being very "seventies"!! -

Very good result there for Newky especially down to five riders so early on, should draw some heart outta that, tough place to get a result from Ippo? -

Lord Lucan replied to The White Knight's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
An excellent if unexpected result, was hoping for one but I'll take the three instead without a doubt!! Some pretty solid looking scoring there by the Comets, Mills apart, (disappointing) he can and should be doing a bit better than that, he is more than capable but, I wasn't there so maybe issues at play that I don't know about? Top performances from Josh/Ricky, almost untouchable by most reports on here so that has to bode well for future away trips, team looks to be coming together quite nicely but, some improvement still required to make us the finished article? Newky seem a bit down at the moment but that wont last forever, often have been one of the best sides in the PL and this one isn't really that bad, missing Rosen wont have helped and the odd e/f just goes to exacerbate an already difficult period? I wouldn't be too disheartened, Newky too good to lounge around at the wrong end of the table for long, you'll be back, just give it time!! Still, nice start for us, top of the pile for now so, gotta be happy with that, be better if this were the end of the season tho!! -

So I found out last night, could make all the difference considering the form Josh is in right now, still hopeful of nicking a point out of this!! -
Flipped right over at the start of his first ride, landed pretty heavily but managed to get through the rest of the meeting, hopefully just a precautionary check up!! Very good performance from the Comets against a very solid looking Somerset team, don't understand the comments of a "poor display" by the Ht Leaders, Kurtz/Allen were better value than their scores would suggest and a little bit of luck would have seen them post better, falls/mechanical damage doing them down a bit? Comets stuck in well and were worth the win which, in the end, was certainly bigger than it was looking early doors and have given themselves as good a chance as we could have of progression into the next round? 14pts should be enough especially as we, hopefully, will have a full strength team out on Friday for the 2nd leg but, it's Comets on the road and we've not done too well at the OTA in recent times so, it's not a gimme just yet!! Big Thank's to Robbo, great return from him tonight, Schrammy not as effective this time but all points gratefully received, Millsy needs more speed, Campton just getting better but needs to block riders more effectively, getting caught out a bit there, Kyle did tremendously well to get through tonight after his spill and capped off a pretty eventful night with two superb race wins, Josh just outstanding, what more can you say!! Looking forward to the 2nd leg with a bit more confidence now, we should be capable of putting this to bed and I would be pretty disappointed if we don't?

He wont be Abbott, badly bruised but nothing broken apparently so that's some good news at least? R/R tomorrow for Rene, Wells/Morris back for the Comets so everyone available for the cover rides which should give us some options, be tough tho so a 1pt return is about best we can hope for!! -
Delighted the weather has decided to play ball, should be a very interesting match this if nothing else, Somerset running very well at the moment and are always pretty good value round our place so we will need to be on the ball from the off, cant afford the last places tonight we're gonna need everything and more besides to take a good lead to the OTA!! Shame there is no Rene tonight, hope that's not too bad an accident and he's back with us soon, don't expect Robbo to let us down so, here's hoping for a 10+ return, same with Schrammy!! If the Comets get a good start I could see us with a tidy win by 12/14, tho preferably more would be better, allow Somerset to get the upper hand early doors and it could be tough just to get the win, game on!!

Lord Lucan replied to YAMYAMBANDIT's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
As far as I am aware the red stop lights do not flash at DP, unless the ref decides to keep flicking the switch on and off, don't think they ever have to be honest but I may be wrong on that, perhaps in the early days? -
Comets Vs Panthers - 26/04/14
Lord Lucan replied to LagutaRacingFan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Very good meeting tonight, some fast racing with more than a few close races!! P, boro outdone by lack of support for their top men, three very creditable performances from Lawson/Ostergaard and Bjerre, to be fair, Dryml did look a useful middle order man, when he gated, and showed a lot of old track craft to our younger riders, Blackbird was a bit unlucky to just get the 1pt I thought he deserved more, tried hard for little reward? Reserves definitely under par tho, well outpaced tonight!! Comets looking more solid now but as speedwaybaz stated earlier, too many of ours are being easily outgated, getting a little worried by the single figure returns of our heat leaders, 6/7pts is not what I would have expected from Wells/Bach, bit of improvement needed there, Howarth picking up a bit now but needs to start better to get the wins, Campton coming along nicely and good to see Ash starting to ride with a bit of confidence tho Chris needs to get a couple of mph on that bike, looked a bit short tonight!! Josh looked good as per, maybe should pass on his start technique tips to the other's, very rarely find him stuck on the gate!! Overall, good start to the PL fixtures, nice 3pts win, need to improve a bit to be challenger's but as I've said before, it's a WIP and it's coming along? -
Comets Vs Panthers - 26/04/14

Two advance forecasts now have it raining up here at the weekend with Saturday being the worst? Have to hope it's one of those hit and miss thing's otherwise it'll be a short Northern Tour for the Panthers!! Having Lawson guest doesn't make P,boro that much stronger, Fisher nearly always been good value for points, and the like up here so, being positive and we get a meeting, I'm looking forward to seeing this match, it's been many a long year since I saw them last and this looks a decent outfit so, should be good with Comets winning by 10!! -
Workington Comets V Berwick Bandits 20/4
Lord Lucan replied to stoneylegend's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
According to Look North advanced weather forecast today it looks like a rain off on Saturday, didn't look promising at all? Requests on a postcard please!! Personally, I would prefer that WTRL actually got the PA system up to a 21st century standard so I could actually hear what's being played before I make a decision on the standard of "music" being output? -
Berwick Vs Workington Sat 19 April
Lord Lucan replied to YAMYAMBANDIT's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
At DP they cant even get the PA system wired up right so don't ask for another run of wire to do alarm bells as well!! Could also employ "bigger" red lights that flash instead of those 60w bulbs that you normally find under your living room fire, that would help!! -
Workington Comets V Berwick Bandits 20/4
Lord Lucan replied to stoneylegend's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Well, that proved to be quite an eventful meeting, little bit of everything thrown in, excellent!! Some really close/fast racing tonight with good contributions to the entertainment from several riders from both sides. Definitely like the look of young Jensen, very stylish and looked really comfortable around our track, certainly wont be at reserve long with scoring like that? Thought right at the start when Kus/Doolan both landed wins that we were going to have one of those night's again but, for some reason, the wheels fell off half way through and Berwick just didn't maintain the strong start? Bellego/Wethers as expected rode solidly all night ably supported by Jensen but just lacked that extra bit of support, Vissing looked very quick and definitely unfortunate to pack up when in front of Howarth, that had all the makings of a classic last bender, Kyle all over him couldn't get by, damn, denied again!! Great to see some different Comets making the headlines, best meeting easily for Campton, great starts and kept on going, disappointed that he didn't get the Ht15, worth it for me? Josh seemed a bit off the pace on occasion as did Ricky, Kyle got better as the night went on, hope those wins boost his confidence while Rene looked a little out of sorts, good returns for Ash/Chris at the bottom end made for a solid all round team performance, certainly need to get more consistency if we are to challenge for the titles but, WIP I think, we're getting there, slowly!! -
Berwick Vs Workington Sat 19 April
Lord Lucan replied to YAMYAMBANDIT's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
It's an on-going problem that seems to afflict many of the Comets sides in recent times, always look good on paper but, takes an awful long time to translate onto the track and, as you say, it is especially apparent away from home? -
Workington Comets V Berwick Bandits 20/4
Lord Lucan replied to stoneylegend's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I think that the Comets should be plenty good enough to take this by around 50-40. Vissing/Weathers usually go pretty well here and if this young Jensen shows as well tonight as last night then it could get very interesting? Loathe to say anything bad about Doolan as he could just as well turn up and rack up the big points as easily as scoring no points, Bellego does well here but could be wrecked after his fall yesterday so if he's missing a r/r "could" hinder Berwick? Comets definitely need a win, wheel's haven't come off yet but certainly running with some loose nuts, the form is there it needs to be applied to the PL just as much as any of the other's? -
Berwick Vs Workington Sat 19 April
Lord Lucan replied to YAMYAMBANDIT's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Disappointing result, seems like that old ht15 curse is back again?? Some below par performances from too many riders causing us the problems tonight, tending to think tho that Comets have given this particular tournament up and are just playing out the remainder of the matches? Will be an interesting match up tomorrow, looking forward to seeing how Berwick go around our place, you appear to have a few DP performers in the ranks so hopefully they will turn up and give a good account!! -
Berwick Vs Workington Sat 19 April
Lord Lucan replied to YAMYAMBANDIT's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Considering nearly all of our riders, (except Mason), were on duty for other teams all over the country yesterday, it was nice to see we have no injuries to worry about today!! Got some good scores together so hoping that will continue tonight, still hopeful for a win by a couple of points!! -
Berwick Vs Workington Sat 19 April
Lord Lucan replied to YAMYAMBANDIT's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Don't know too much about Berwick so far this season, will be a tough proposition on their own track but am hopeful that the Comets will do well enough to come home with a 44-46 win!! We have enough big track riders in our team so should really be no excuses for any bad performances that might occur, he say's, optimistically!!
