That's NHS cutbacks for you, as has been stated elsewhere, there are two ambulance depots within a few miles of the ground but they are not on standby for Workington Speedway? Understand your concern, but this is the first time I can ever remember an ambulance not being available to take anyone from DP not just injured riders, certainly hope it's not a portent of things to come? Don't know the set up with St John Ambulance so I'm not aware of how many vehicles they can provide to speedway at any one time, costs are certainly going to be in there somewhere but I am not privy to the arrangements they have so I certainly wont point the finger at anyone, very unfortunate outcome but, as long as Kyle is OK that's my main concern and, from what I witnessed, he was well looked after by the medics who were there, just a shame we didn't have anymore available!!

Panthers V Workington (lcsf) Tues 17/6/14

1) If Howarth does miss this meeting will we be allowed to have three guests? 2) How many guests can you have before you must declare yourselves as a PL Select? -
If our Kyle is out injured for any length of time Rich would make a good short term replacement for us, usually does pretty well up here!!

Yes, it certainly will do, morphine is an opiate, very powerful and highly addictive and can only be administered by trained medical staff, once done you can never tell just how individual people will react to it's effects hence the Doctor always has to be there. Well, yes it was in a way, the county ambulance wasn't available for ages so Kyle was taken to hospital in the St John Ambulance with the Doctor present, so in effect we had no ambulance of any sort and no Doctor at the track, as the curfew would have been pretty much upon us by the time the medical cover could get back it was decided by both management's to call the meeting off now rather than wait!!

Don't understand why Edinboro's fans are so downbeat on their sides chances tonight? The form team in the league so far, have already won here and are simply going from strength to strength, as the Comets have had very little track time together over the last few weeks I would suggest that it is us who need to be the more worried!! If our guy's are struggling tonight then we are up against the best possible team to exploit it, this will be a struggle for us I think just to get two pts never mind 3 so I genuinely hope that all our guy's are on song and the performance is good enough to do ourselves justice, even in defeat, if we leave it on the track I'll be quite content with that, tho a win would be preferable!!

Glasgow and Sheffield for the Comets.

Will be a tough match now for the Comets, be interesting to see just how Taylor Poole will go, haven't seen him race for a while and if memory serves E,boro had some pretty handy reserves last time they were here so that could be the pivotal point in deciding the outcome? Still, out of adversity and all that, I'll stick my neck out and say 48-42!!

Sorry mate but clearly "everyone didn't" know there was an England match on that night!! -

Think you've misunderstood that, Redcar were due to run a scheduled fixture next Thursday, it then transpired that the World Cup game, involving England, was on the same night so the club pulled the plug in the light of the probable lost revenue this would have incurred had they ran, I would say their hand was pretty much forced? -

Seriously, with all of the media available thesedays to stream/record watch whenever you like, why should Redcar, or anyone else for that matter, be forced to cancel their own fixtures to accommodate the World Cup?? If it's a nice night on Thursday then Redcar miss the opportunity to post a PL fixture, this now has to be rearranged, what if that fixture falls foul of the weather and contributes further to a backlog that could easily be avoided, will the World Cup apologise for the disruption, no, of course it wont because speedway is a minority sport dying on its feet due to external influences and bad weather!! Any of the above methods could easily be applied to anyone and with the saturation coverage this event will most likely get, why should anyone have to forego their sport to accommodate this? If speedway wishes to continue in the UK it has to start standing up and defending it's right to co exist alongside everything else, rant over!! -

Gonna be an awful lot of meeting's to cram in already with this weather, seems like no one is immune to it at the moment, November anyone? -
Workington V Redcar (pl) 31/05/14 19:00 Hrs
Lord Lucan replied to topaz325's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
It was a few years back and time certainly does fly!! The incident itself didn't have any great bearing on the final outcome as I'm pretty sure the meeting was well and truly over as a contest by then and nothing too much was made of it, doesn't stop me remembering it though!! -

Konopka wasn't that far behind to be fair but far enough, I, like scarra, are alluding to the "principle" of team riding, Wells had done the job for almost the entire race then just decided to up and b*gger off into the distance, why couldn't he accept the paid win? Sometimes with inexperienced riders that shock of suddenly finding someone blasting by when you least expect it can have consequences, Lambert drifted well wide after Wells went by and could have been caught by a better rider, finishing some 20/30mtrs behind I definitely think Wells move caught Simon by surprise!! Remember an incident a few years ago when Ulrich Ostergaard rode for us, similar type of thing, he went very quickly up the inside of a young reserve, (ooh err missus), clean pass but pretty draughty I'd say for the young lad going into turn 3, shook him that much he fell off, referee then excluded Ostergaard presumably for "scaring" him out of the way, always makes me laugh when I think of it!! Anyway, onwards and upwards!! -

Thank You my friend, glad to see someone appreciates my efforts!! That's not the point, Wells had hung around for almost the entire race covering Lambert so why blitz passed him for the final two corners, the 5-1 was guaranteed so as I said, a nice confidence booster would have ensued for Simon by taking his first win for us in this stint? Seem to remember a post on one of our threads, possibly Mills axed, by a chap quoting the effort's of the great Tomas Topinka in his heyday whom was always looking out for his team mates and shepherding them "without" taking wins off the weaker riders, worked brilliantly for Lynn and maybe that's why they are more successful than we are, could learn a thing or two about "team" riding our Ricky!! -

A moderate performance all round and against pretty much a two man Redcar team was a bit disappointing to say the least, and even more so as they were still in pitching for a point right up til Ht15 when a dodgy engine robbed their best/only pairing of a chance to challenge for a point? I had been half expecting a backlash after last week from the Comets but for some reason that didn't materialise and we were rather fortunate to get away with the full amount? Comets looked well under power tonight especially in the Ht leader dep't with no one really capable of challenging Lawson/Summers, not a good sign? Campton didn't look quick, Morris showed good spirit til bike problems hampered his scoring, Howarth still not where he should be but solid enough, poor meeting from Robbo by his usual standards, Rene looks OK when in front but not much passing when he isn't and a solid enough performance from Lambert, which I'm sure he will improve once he's got acquainted with the track, a little disappointed for him when Wells took the win after shepherding him around for most of the race, (ht12) thought he would have given him that, confidence booster but, there you go!! Wells himself rode OK for his points but does lack that look of a racer!! Looking like a long season, recent averages show up the inconsistency of our team with only Josh showing any real improvement so far, gotta hope the rest are just pacing themselves for the business end, perhaps learning from the hare and the tortoise of yesteryears!! I'll settle for a scruffy win even tho I'm not that impressed by the performance, it's still points on the board and after last week, I'd rather have em than not!! -

Looking good for the forecast so it'll be nice to get back and see some action, haven't seen anything since the beginning of the month through one thing and another? Definitely need a bit of a confidence boosting win from this and we should be OK for the three points against Redcar tomorrow, (tho I did say that about Berwick as well ) so not asking for much but, anything above 49 will do for me!! -
Sheffield V Workington(29th May)
Lord Lucan replied to Marcelle's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Not looking good but, you never know!! Even this early on you cant afford to be stacking up matches, with losing riders to the EL always an issue, finding alternative dates you haven't budgeted for is going to bring potential problems for someone? -
If that was the case Steve they wont be getting that up here, see precious little aiding and abetting of lower ranked riders thesedays at DP as they have been pretty much too far off the pace to consider? Generally it's our better guy's who do the team riding together as they are usually the quickest and need little encouragement as each knows the other will be there or thereabouts anyway?
-
Thank's for that mate, that's what I've misunderstood, knew there was something in the deal about him possibly coming back at some point!!
-
Then I stand corrected, swore blind he was still one of our's and only out on loan with a view to us taking him back when he get's bored with the EL!! Principle is still the same though, club asset's can still be loaned out.
-
Using "Ye Olde" English version in your appraisal Skoobie, I like it!! May have been worth looking into such an event now instead of waiting til even more matches have gone by and only pointing the finger at the new boy, as you say, some guys haven't run up the scores we were all hoping for but, there's plenty of season left yet so you never know, we could be pacing ourselves? Not necessarily, Richard Lawson is an asset also, so it's not without feasibility putting Rene on your wish list, whether you get him is another matter!! Could also be that his form is going off slightly by being here too long and he's getting too used to the place, aka RL, change of scenery appears to be doing him no harm at all?
-
Try the 12 other track's in the PL, will he score decent points there, that's what we're short on, that's what we're looking for, without them we are no further forward than we were before? He hasn't turned a wheel yet so I'll wait and see how thing's pan out, God loves a trier!!
