Workington V Ryehouse Saturday 30th Aug
Lord Lucan replied to scaramanga's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Comets have to ride two matches tonight so I dont think it will be as one sided as many people think as I expect we will have to save ourselves a bit for Scunny next up? I'll hazard a guess at a 14/16pt win, still get's us the 3pts and that's all we want at this stage!! -
Correction, racing in Poland in a European Championship match Poole Pirates website, same fixture includes Rene's Danish team Esbjerg, probably why he's not at Scunny either!! Hope there aren't too many matches on Sunday then, looks like a guest fest? You have to take into account the fact that Workington must have agreed this date with Scunny knowing the rider issues at play, add to that the need to get fixtures played and with qualification for the play offs at stake it's probably been as good an outcome as it was ever likely to get? It's been said before about the amount of double up riders we have this year and it was always gonna be a problem but you cant legislate for everything in March, be a bonus if you could tho, miss out all the rainy days into the bargain!! Should qualify for at least one guest, possibly two but if thats not available then we'll have to hope that Lambo is back fit n well as our old mate R/R could be lining up instead!!

At the time of writing it had never even entered my head that you could have been talking about it being at Northside then travelling across to DP for the Glasgow match later, I've had a look round and cant find any notice for the event anywhere? Still, if you've had word from the club then I'm sure you'll get it on sometime in the near future, things being just a tad busy here thesedays, should be worth watching when it does if those same lads are still competeing that were there Friday!! -

Could be a problem now that, just been announced that the 6th Sept date v Glasgow is now a double header with Somerset? -

He did indeed, dont know what his time was tho, Walshie had left the box by then and I didn't catch the tones of the other guy announcing it? The late start on Friday didn't help the after match racers for time, think we got about 4/5 at the most before the meeting was closed, it is a shame if the guy has to travel so far for a spin as he definitely gives the impression that practice will bring him on a bundle, as his TR showed, the ability is there track time wasn't? One thing for sure tho is he'll always get a spin round our place if he can make it, club will always try and do right for young up and comers and he certainly looks like a prospect!! -

Pretty sure Ryan McDonald rode a couple of races at Worky on Friday night, shaped up quite well!! -

Give him time mate, give him time, if he was there last night he's probably in no fit state at the moment to post anything!! Also makes a nice change to see "any" Comets fans post on here, shame it took a thrashing to bring them out? -

One of the worst results I've seen at DP involving the Comets, yet strangely enough saw some of the best racing?? I honestly thought Lykke would have been the one to benefit from our weaker than normal reserve pairing but, not a bit of it, that old boy Bunyan rolled a few years off tonight, best I've seen him in yonks!! To be fair, Aarnio apart, Glasgow rode exceptionally well to a man, track really suited them, must have something to do with releasing the shackles of a tight/slow arse track to blast off round our's? Harrison, almost felt sorry for him missing out on his full max, but I soon got over it nah, rode superbly knew exactly where to put himself for maximum effect, some great passes thrown in to boot, memories of the old Rusty!! For the Comets, well, something sadly lacking tonight, always seemed that despite the top races we were involved in you always got the feeling we were destined for the 2nd's and 3rd's and only four race wins back's this up, just couldn't get enough whereas Glasgow wanted more the more they got? Jacobs looked a very handy young rider for the future, tried hard and got good points, looking forward to seeing him team up with Lambo, Josh, needs to press delete on that camera footage he was collecting, tried hard just didn't happen, Wells looked better/quicker at times but vulnerable when not in front, Rene got going too late really, Kyle faded after a couple of good rides and Mason just went backwards after a promising first ride, Benji again, totally out of his depth at this level but fair play to him for taking it on anyway!! Going to be a struggle to get a decent crowd for a double header on the back of the last two performances and with the long trip to Plymouth in between could get even worse should we do badly there as well? Still, it's done now, I'll be back next time as usual whatever it costs coz, that's what I do, did it in 85 and 30yrs or whatever, it makes no difference to me!! Ironic for the Glasgow fans, a great result but an off night meeting few can get too, typical.... safe trip for those who were here, the journey home wont be anywhere near as long tonight!! -

Hoping that the thought of having just spent £20k on a fence will be enough to convince them? you can sense the "unease" around the place tho!! -
So what do you want, "a medal"!! Wishful thinking on my part rather than certainty we would challenge for a point, hoping that as we had previously won easily down there a bit of confidence would have embued the performance, unfortunately that wasn't the case and the standard Comets on the road v top opposition version turned up instead? Cant put too fine a point on it but we simply dont have the firepower on track as it looked like we had on paper when it was first drawn up, it all looked so wonderful and lots of people agreed but you cant have everything, injuries haven't helped but it's been the lack of pure improvement of too many riders that has stalled this team this year, too many saving their best for other teams, too many missed matches causing too many inconsistent performances? I doubt we'll be in the shake up, confidence too shot for that really just need to regroup, do as best we can and at least try and finish on a high with a view to next season and "hope" we can get it right next time?

It's not looking good this is it, possibly Tigers best chance in a while to get something at DP especially if they have a "relatively" full side out? I can see why so many people dont want to turn up and watch speedway at Worky now, just been too inconsistent and with just about every other problem under the sun thrown in for good measure it's enough to dishearten anyone? Going to chance a small win of around 47-43 as I think trying to qualify for the play offs now would be suicide, confidence and injuries being what it is/they are!! It was another great paper team for the Comets which promised great things, sadly it doesn't look like paying off again, too many otherwise committed riders this year and it has shown, hope we can take this on board for next year and minimise this as much as possible!! -
Well what a piss poor effort that looks, three riders scoring but only one in double figures, two tac rides in the first 8 races 1-8 and 2-7 and still get mullered, still, looking on the bright side, that's half the PL programme done!! No point looking for excuses we weren't at the races really at all and Ipswich can only beat what's in front of them which, disappointingly, wasn't very much, if we qualify for the play offs on this form I can see "every" team wanting to pick us, too many riders not up to the job away from home, dont know why it is but we simply dont seem capable of competing with the top teams and until we do we need'nt look at the silverware? Need some sort of redemption later on today v Glasgow but I'm afraid that scenario is beginning to wear a bit thin, we cant carry on just winning at home to appease the disappointment of another poor away performance, standards have to improve while Comets still have a crowd left to race in front of, season is falling apart!!
-
Think we will really have to ride well to get anything out of this, Ipswich going very nicely Thank You at the moment so nothing short of full commitment required? We have won here before against the odds so it's not an insurmountable problem, we have riders whom normally do quite well round Foxhall so it certainly shouldn't be all doom and gloom, our reserve combo will be the key in many races tho an improved effort from Campton is long overdue also and could be vital!! I'm going to take a chance on a point with a 47-43 loss as I really think that if we are to get any movement up the table then points gathering, in the short time we have available, has to start sooner rather than later, that sooner is tomorrow?
-
Will be interesting to see how he goes first time back here Friday, was a very handy rider on his day so should still be more than capable of doing Glasgow a decent job especially as he's been keeping his eye in abroad!!
-
Wont be him mate, he's just stopped off at Workington for the remainder of the season!!

Workington Sign Joe Jacobs
Lord Lucan replied to skoobie's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Well, another here there and everywhere rider is not what I would have gone for but he looks pretty much as good as it gets for this time of year, bit unlucky to get the boot from P,boro so here's hoping the fire in his belly is burning bright!! At least he has experience and should be more than up to the job and if he can do a Lambert, well I'll be very happy with that!! -
Thoughts On Your Team So Far
Lord Lucan replied to skoobie's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Over the "course of the season" he has managed to up his average to just over 9 from a start point of just under 8.5, try to keep your comments in perspective? As for an out and out No1 it's just a terminology but if you want an example then look at Stoney, he was an out and out No1, the spearhead of every Comets team he was ever in!! I'm prepared to wait another 8 days or so for your next reply? -

Lord Lucan replied to topaz325's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Coz you ride our track a hell of a lot better than you do Rye, I was surprised when you got nothing out of them!! As for tonight, almost inevitable delay's aside, a very good match I thought, disappointingly correct that our lack of match practice would cost us a point but fair play to Newky, they did ride very well and deserved to get something especially after Danny Phillips only lasted 100m and they had to rely on one reserve for the whole meeting, hope he's OK, painful neck injury for him that required a trip to the hospital? Good effort from the Comets tonight to get the win but it just shows the damage a couple of strategically placed "jokers" can do to a healthy lead, King looked very quick tonight, Rose tried hard and didn't get the pts his efforts deserved, Robson looked out of sorts til his fourth ride which produced one of the races of the night with Rene, nip and tuck all the way with Rene getting passed on the last corner to take the win, Kerr was getting better with every race and I was quite surprised he didn't get the Ht 15, Lindgren started well but faded a bit after that and Nielsen rode as well as I've ever seen him ride here nearly always in the mix, did well!! For the Comets, Josh was looking like his old self, quick and sharp and his run down of Danny King in Ht1 was worth the money on it's own, Kyle looked better as well, the rest seems to have done him no harm at all, much smoother tonight and all the better for it, two good wins, Rene seemed to be on a mission, trying to pass everything that moved, must have been short on cash and a bill's just landed, Mason was getting going til he blew an engine and the spare wasn't quite on the pace, Ricky had a pretty disappointing night and a snapped chain saw him do a dance with the dirt when in 2nd place which wont have done the bank balance any favour's either, Kasper Lykke is worryingly good round our place which doesn't bode well for us as he's back with Glasgow nxt week, great race to see off Kerr on his tac ride but some tardy starts later on cost him points he should have had, and as for Liam Carr, what a good effort he put in, very tidy win in the reserve race and held his own for most of the other's for a good return that could have been a pt or two better, well done young man!! All in all, a good win against a capable side, dont think it's as bad as all that in relation to the PL table as we have so many matches in hand, if we can get into a consistent run of matches, get the sharpness back, we could get into the mix quite quickly but it's all those away matches where we need to shine and get some pts if we're to really make everyone sit up and take notice? -

And of course the staple attire of the bad weather rider.... the all in one boiler suit!! Kneckerchief's, (type of scarf for all you young un's) dont see many of those flapping in the breeze thesedays!! Always remember the old Comets favourite Mal Mackay used to ride round with a football top on, never knew why tho? -

Quite agree with that Screm, and as yourself and Super Blue allude to, just manipulate the fixture list to give the main competition every possible chance of a completion?
