Berwick V Workington 10/09/2014 @7-30pm
Lord Lucan replied to screm's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
And what about Somerset on Friday? Disappointing result exacerbated again by another 5-1 loss in Ht15, just seems on the pure face of it that we have all but given up, we have absolutely no chance in the play offs riding like this away from home, dont know what is happening, why cant we get it together? Only two pts behind Newky, 6 available v Sheffield at home so it looks like we dont give a toss about the away fixtures just getting them out of the way with minimal effort, hope that's coz we're saving it up as it's highly unlikely we'll drop all the pts on Saturday so we will probably be the sixth team and we really are gonna need to pull our finger out to avoid totally embarrassing ourselves!! Never expected this scenario when we started, it all looked so promising!! -
Comets Scrap Two Fixtures.
Lord Lucan replied to Lord Lucan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Topaz is not actually that far short of being right anyway as it stands, season ends 31st October so we only need go back a cple of weeks and start at the beginning of March instead of the end and we're within his/her confines!! -
Comets Scrap Two Fixtures.

Thank's for that Steve, been on here before looking at the fixture list on BSPA, get so engrossed in my own team that I tend to forget the same problems are affecting everyone else!! -

Hope Comets will give this a good go, big track so should be well suited, dont think we'll get much change from the Bandits but I'd like to think we're no worse opponents than a 50-40 score!! -
Comets Scrap Two Fixtures.
Lord Lucan replied to Lord Lucan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
That's what I thought, plenty of room after the cut off to run them, even if they are meaningless? Only using the words allocated by the N&S headline writer, Comets forced to SCRAP two meetings?? For what it's worth, could the Glasgow match on Sunday not have been made a double header, didn't play anyone else that day, or, would it have been possible to ask Edinburgh down on Saturday instead of having two matches against Sheffield? Either way it would have looked better to a certain extent if we could have at least completed a full round of PL1 fixtures and just kept the two PL2 fixtures to race after the cut off? -
Just read on the local News and Star website that the Workington Comets have been forced to scrap the two outstanding PL fixtures not currently re arranged? Matches affected are v Edinburgh (H) and v Glasgow (A) pl2. Not much meat on the bones of this story at the moment so should be more over the coming days, current data assumes no suitable dates could be found to run either fixture before the cut off? This could be a bit controversial?

Nah, good forecast for the week over here, not scheduled to rain til at least Sunday!! When did that happen, I never knew our County's ambience was mobile? -
Peterborough V Workington 9/9
Lord Lucan replied to Lord Lucan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
At least we got something out of this match, only the one point but that could be the vital one? Disappointing to see riders the calibre of Josh and Rene delivering such poor scores, a half decent performance from either and its 3pts, looking on updates its a score card that just smacks of the inconsistency the Comets have shown all season. Finally get a return from Mason away from home, good efforts from Ricky and Joe but now Lambo goes off the boil a bit along with our top two, normally the other way round but just cant get it together at the same time, we wont win anything going round in circles like this!! Could be touch and go for the last qualifiying place, Comets should be slight favourites but on this form we will just make up the numbers, not gelling as a team, too many hit and miss performers, mind you, strange things do happen in sport, plenty of lowly finishers have ended up as Champions in other sports and I've always said, you only need hang in there, perform for 6 matches and the title is yours? -

No worries, had to point it out tho as it looks silly? -

Yeah from your point of view that is fair comment, you haven't done particularly well there this time round whereas we haven't done particularly well anywhere, (stands by and waits for the "wot about Rye result"), and I'm clutching at straws!! -

Just in case anyone is mystified by this thread, I'd like to point out that I am "NOT" responsible for starting it, why would I start a thread by commenting on someone else's theory, Mr Morrissey Fan? Just for the record though I'm hoping for points and require three please via a 43-47 victory!! -
Our fixtures against Sheffield are the final two PL matches to come in under the cut off for us so we would actually need away points from anywhere to be certain of getting through, always assuming that we actually get the 6pts off Sheff in the first place? Home v Edinburgh and away v Glasgow (PL2) are our remaining matches but wont count toward the play offs and aren't re arranged yet anyway? Think P,boro are our best chance of away pts out of what we have this week, so your right, it is a match we "both" need to win to stand any chance of getting anywhere?

Lord Lucan replied to topaz325's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Well that doesn't really matter my friend, the top two teams get to pick their opposition in the play off not just the league leader!! No, it was just an idea to suggest that if all things considered, and a perfect scenario ensured Comets are in the play off, would it not make sense, (if picked by E,boro) to keep them at DP and run the PL fixture as well rather than wait and arrange another time, nothing more, nothing less? My apologies if my original post didn't convey that message properly!! -

It would appear a distinct possibility, with this being a re arranged fixture his European commitments would take priority? -

Lord Lucan replied to topaz325's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Just supposing then, if the Comets get into the play offs and are picked by Edinburgh, would our home leg not be suitable to run as a double header hence clearing the league fixture from the calendar at the same time, would save struggling to find another date especially as Edinburgh are involved in other competitions as well that also need to be settled? -

Lord Lucan replied to screm's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Well I just hope we can transfer our home form to Berwick and make a good fist of things, if that is correct that we've no Rene for this then I assume our old friend R/R will be on call, could make life very tough if he's not up to the job? -

Pleased that Millsy is in one piece, relatively speaking, never saw the crash, just heard it, and when I looked back all I saw was a piece of fence flapping around like a white flag and a big hole, no sign of him at all, really expected the worse at that point!! -

Absolutely, a Northern triumverate, keep the expenses down as well!! -
Yes, too many niggling injuries this time round has done him no favours, on a similar theme the same could be said of Ashley Morris, no progress from him, didn't help his or our cause this year either? Was done to help Ricky Wells, he too was struggling there so a change of position was to benefit him which does seem to have started to pay off!! If "we" got £10k for Campton I'd keep it!! Agree with you on the home form he has certainly improved over the last few weeks in my mind caused by the fact that he doesn't fight his bike all the time like he used to, much more fluid now and it shows, definitely has speed to burn at DP, shame, like several other's, he's not transferring it to the away tracks?
-
Poor result!!! Just proves my point from yesterday, Comets reliable at home ... away, "unreliable"? Might just about hang on to sixth place for the play offs but basically on the premise of being the best of the worst left over from the top five, not good enough really to trouble the judge, unless our away form improves dramatically we are just making the season longer when most people now are of the feeling that they'd just prefer to see it end and start afresh next year? Only one race winner in the team this afternoon at a track we nearly always go well on say's it all, not good enough, again just looks like the usual, our top guys dont put it all in and the remainder not on the premises to make up the shortfall, the difference between a winning team and an also ran? Few more away matches scattered about this week and I dont really see any points from any of them so confirmation of a top six spot may have to wait til Saturday's dble header with Sheff, and we will shift them coz "we're at home" what happens after is another matter!!

Lord Lucan replied to topaz325's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Yes, it was deemed by the County Ambulance crew best to air lift him to a better qualified hospital straight away as a precaution rather than spend time in the locale first!! Managed to make this after all tho not the best of meetings to be fair, Glasgow not on song this night as last whereas Comets were, always in the van, always the more likely to win!! Poor return from Rusty via e/f's falls hamstrung Glasgow, Wolbert a bit in and out, Pijper was solid, Lykke tried hard without ever looking like winning a race but worthy of his points and Aarnio just got going a bit too late!! Losing Mills to that purler of a crash, (heard rather than seen) didn't help either, hope his injuries are not too serious but wiping out several metres of fence all on your own never looks good? Get well soon fella!! Comets tho much too good tonight with excellent contributions all round most noteworthy through Rene and Kyle and major plusses for Ricky and Mason, Josh slipped up in one and fair enough returns from Joe and Simon helped pull out the comfortable win and bag the three pts!! -
Workington V Somerset 06/09/14 (pl)
Lord Lucan replied to topaz325's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Succeeded in dramatic effect but contributing very little else, always wisest to wait for the reasons before making this type of assumption!! Fortunately for me, a change of plan and earlier finish got me to the meeting tonight and I am very pleased with the results, said you cant write the Comets off at home.... only away!! Some very good racing on show in this match and even with a depleted side Somerset were always in the mix and very worthy of an overrun, still down after Ht10 and strong line up's in the next two they must have felt they had a chance to get a pt out of this but, despite their best efforts, beaten off by a couple of very determined Comets in Kyle and Rene, those pts were ours and staying here!! Very solid scoring again throughout the team, determination again showing up well, better gating, improved effort so explain, why cant this transfer to away tracks, we would be in a far better position if we rode their's like they ride ours? Sad to see young Joe carted off toward the end, didn't see what the problem was with the crash, just looked like one of those bunching incidents that would see riders straight up and walking away, one of those that "could" be worse than it looked? Gotta hope that it isn't, Joe just starting to get into the swing, forming some stability in the reserves with Lambo and now this, another just when you didn't want it scenario all too typical for us at the business end of the season, could be back to the NL guests again with so many matches due this coming week so we didn't need this? Get well soon young man, all the best!! And a BIG well done to the Comets, great result against a Champion elect team!!
