Unexpected result but it'll do nicely!! Looking on updates, Comets 3 top men totalled 38, E,boro's top 3 totalled 38, it would appear that the back up to them was the deciding factor, Comets had it E,boro didn't? Couple of tidy performances around tonight, half an eye on next season perhaps but overall it looked a sound effort, didn't make it myself tonight, got a better offer, Oh I do like the smell of money!! Seriously tho, how many were there tonight, thought it would be touch and go myself so pleased it got run, saved a bit of bother!! -

Oh no, it's not that standing water in the surrounding areas issue again is it? -
Oh I see, the usual old Comets bollox, you weren't there so your opinion doesn't count, do you apply that also to the "Berwick fan's" posting here as well? In the original post I clearly stated that my opinion on events was based on comment made by people who "were" there, and, tho not stated, on previous experience of watching part completed matches, it was merely a "suggestion" nothing lasts forever and there is nothing to suggest that some form of remedial work would not be of benefit, after all you state yourself that "flooded areas" are caused by "trapped water" in surrounding areas so, in your haste to try and belittle me you have agreed quite clearly and by your own admission, that the track is affected/compromised by heavy rainfall so improved drainage would be of benefit? It's far easier to control how much water you put down before/during a meeting, that's a given, heavy rain is another so there is nothing stopping a little "man made" help to nature being provided is there?

Oh Dear, looks like I've missed absolutely nothing then? Job's to do over the winter, 1) Dig up track 2) Smash the base up a bit to improve soakaway 3) Re lay track or, 4) Just call it quits, reputation must be minced, can't see any excuses meaning anything now just been too many no matter how genuine this one might be? As I've said, I wasn't able to make tonight so never saw the conditions but judging by the various statements this has, sadly, turned into another shambles which just simply wont do this club any favours at all?

Absolutely DD, beat me to it on that suggestion. Not sure about Bellego tho, yes, does go well here but what about anywhere else, also seems to ride abroad quite a bit, Roynon, been there done that handy rider on his day but too injury prone for me? Agree about Rene, definitely needs a spell away just doesn't look happy here, Newky would be my bet for him depending on the Euro commitments for Sunday's? Ricky should be retained if possible as middle order with TJ, potentially good combo that!! You've misread Jenga's post there clambo, it's posted as "make" Wells an asset, it's not stating that he "was" .

But then you would get the supporters of the team going last complaining about having to wait so long before they get a go, if you went in alphabetical order that team would be Workington, at current levels that would be 13 yrs and we could be out of business by then? -
No good fetching him to Workington then?

It was, because the straights at DP are so skinny due to the width/length of the rugby pitch? If the stadium was redesigned on the style of the old Odsal Stadium at Bradford where the bends had a natural angle in and out banking wouldn't be that much of an issue? What would help is if the Rugby club would cut out a chunk of the try scoring area on all the corners and fit artificial grass which could be laid/lifted to allow a more flowing entry and exit from the bends, it's that sharp turn round a square edge that causes the problems, it's the track layout which needs addressed rather than just shoving banking on? Think the second bend was pushed back a bit but it was always a bottle neck, remember many riders getting squeezed into the fence down there by an errant route taken by the inside rider, Mick Powell for one? I remember an incident on the first bend many years ago which resulted in an injury to a young lad in the crowd when a bike crashed over the fence and bounced up the terracing, think that was when the standing area all around the ground was pushed back by the H&S executive although it was a bit later when entry to the back straight was curtailed at the exit of bend two, though that could have been through the construction of the viewing platform for the sponsors as much as anything else!!

Never said they weren't, I said take the banking off altogether and get it flat?? As for the "banking has never been changed" why did Keith Denham announce that he had put "extra" banking on to help riders onto the then "narrower straights" that were around at that time, when the track was widened I felt that banking should have come back off as to me it serves no purpose at all, definitely doesn't improve the racing for me!! Agree with the bottom bit though, a tad harsh maybe but pretty much in the ball park, from what I've heard of course!!

Right, no need to call it off until people were there wanting to see the meeting, well if it only took a shower to bomb the event just before start time it cant have been in a very raceable condition then could it? I didn't go down as I had already convinced myself from the Friday that there was no way that track would have recovered in time for this meeting going on past experience of rain damage on the track, it would have made for a very poor spectacle. As LBC says, if any reparation had been done and conditions influenced again by further rainfall, then the right thing was to call it off at that point and "prevent anyone" holding the view of coming through to "not bother" and save themselves a lot of time and money? Too many supporters are being taken for mugs by incidents like this and promotions wonder why crowds are dwindling, I dont know if the gates were open and monies exchanged as, as I've said, I wasn't there but it does beggar belief that Workington Speedway can call off PL meetings early to prevent uneccessary costs to riders/supporters of other teams seemingly with no problem, so why didn't they just "advise" to do the same for this one? I would like to think that we will leave this meeting alone til next Season now rather than try for another cold/damp night in October to have another lash, it will be a poor crowd this time of year and Rusty deserves better than that, he may have to wait a bit longer but hopefully it would be worth it!!
-
After the deluge that hit Workington through Friday, Friday night/Saturday morning especially, I'm amazed this meeting even got this far? Considering the number of rain offs we've had from far less hostile conditions I was convinced this was a gonner yesterday, cant believe they've chanced their arm to go so late before calling it off, what happened to the "day before" call off due to poor forecasts, this one wasn't brilliant and they have been called off for less this season, can see it hitting the fan....again!!
-
Haven't looked at any averages for team building for next year, think I'll wait a bit for that, but my bug bear, and something I would love to see happen during the close season, is the removal of all the banking at DP and take the track back to where it was in 1999, flatter smoother and a lot more racing lines than we have now, something drastic needs to happen to get some racing back and hopefully the missing supporters? Yes, it wont be the only thing required for that to happen but, it would be a start!!

1973 I think that was, remember watching the highlights on World of Sport with Dave Lanning commentating, Ivan Mauger went down first lap if I remember rightly then lay there hoping the race would be stopped, unfortunately it wasn't and in those days as he was clear of the racing line the ref just let Shrapnel fly round the inside without a care in the world!! Wouldn't happen nowadays?
