the truth is we have 1 world class rider in tai the various riders members have put forward are either no longer world class or never will be and I don't see that changing any time soon their maybe valid reasons as members have said as to why the brits are in this position but if any of the young brits mentioned have that ability they would succeed they don't

Tai Woffinden
John Ernest Holland replied to David Haddock's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
great performance from tai well done should he had rode so soon after injury well i expect friends and advisors told him no but thats what makes speedway riders a breed apart the history of the world championship shows riders who defied their injuries to win hope he now rests again before the next gp as some forum members are right another crash could put him out for the season -
dangle a big fat pay cheque for the holder and the riders nominated would find the time proof those riders who race in the russian league nightmare for travel even today but are paid big money for it

Gp Riders Of The Future?
John Ernest Holland replied to stratton's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
of course gollob hancock and pedersen are still world class throw in hampel lindback jonsson lingren and the young guns will not have it all their own way but within 5 years the ones i said i think will dominate i think if ward can focus on racing only and stop all the outside crap he could be as good as say crumpie or tr and who knows maybe worrell and lawson might be able to step up to world class in a season or two like woofie -

Dangerous Riding
John Ernest Holland replied to gazzatopfuel's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
not seen the lad ride so cannot comment surely then his manager/advisor should be telling him learn the basics first but how do u tell young lads who have the enthusism but not the skill yet if he is not careful an older rider might decide its time for a hard lessonin racing -
Dangerous Riding
John Ernest Holland replied to gazzatopfuel's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
young inexperienced riders might have some reckless rides but its not riding dirty just part of learning their were riders in the early fifties who wanted to ban a young barry briggs because they thought his riding dangerous and ronnie moore in interview with briggo tells he was stuffed into the fence in his 1st season until he did the same to the offending riders who then stopped its a fine line between hard and dangerous races as for a rider sueing well if his career is ended by a blatant act of dirty riding he might have grounds for it -
in all sports watching england win the 66 world cup final and my dear old mum who when w germany equalised at 2-2 thinking it was england in the white shirts and my 2 favorite sports cricket my first glimse of a certain kevin petersen complete with bright red streak in his hair hitting a superb century against the aussies at headingly and the 1965 internationale at wimbledon when the stars of the old pl showed they could compete and beat the former big boys of the nl with c monk a deserved winner and hard man ivor brown meeting a certain mr fundin who showed him what real hard riding was

John Ernest Holland replied to jamescarter's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
HE IS RIGHT TO MANY OF THE GPs ARE A POOR SHOWCASE FOR THE WORLDsELITE I DONT BLAME THE RIDERS WHO GIVE 110 PERCENT BUT TO THE OCCASIONAL TV VIEWER THEY MUST WONDER WHAT ALL THE HYPE IS ABOUT -
at scunthorpe they will run 11 banger and hot rod meetings this year promoter rob godfrey is on record that they make more money from them than speedway which he ploughs back into the running of speedway and is helping the steady stream of stadium and spectator improvements

New Speedway Plans For Craven Park, Hull?
John Ernest Holland replied to 25yearfan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
i live on the outskirts of hull not heard anything on the local tv or radio sports programmes dont think it will happen you get a few ex hull fans at scunthorpe but the majority have been lost to the sport -
i also have been watching speedway from the early sixties and i dont think the racing is any better or worse than before and like many i fail to see the attraction of other motor sports such as f1 so it must be as other members have posted that they are cool and speedway is not older fans may remember 1964 when briggo was runner up to mary rand i think in the bbc sports personality of the year and rumours surfaced afterwards that briggo actually won but the bbc did not think that speedway for want of a better word cool enough to have a hairy biker beating the then golden girl of athletics

with many of the worlds best riders not racing in the uk most elite teams have only one real quality rider plus a decent second heat leader if a team has injuries to one or both i dont see any alternative to using guest riders otherwise a team is going to be hammered every meeting and like most fans i want close racing not 5-1 every heat and it makes no sense to compare speedway to football squads when most in the top division have as many as 25 to 30 players and huge wage bills the speedway equivalent would be a squad of 10 riders which no team not even poole could afford

mine would be hyde road big track plenty of racing lines as for the 4 riders peter craven peter collins jason crump ivan mauger 3 were masters of hyde road wonder how crumpie would have fared against them
