Bydgoszcz Grand Prix
Steve Shovlar replied to pedropete's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
What a disappointing final with grinning mug Hancock stealing it. Never mind. Pedersen sews it up in two weeks time and Gollob entertained all the way. -
A poor lineup and nothing there that inspires. Whoever goes through will do nothing in 2009 to liven up the GP series. I hope and pray old hands don't make it though.

It must be for replays after the meeting. My broadband won't allow streaming of the meetngs. It keeps stoping and freezing, so I go back and watch it after 11pm when speeds are good. However tonight it won't let me watch. Looks like they are being sucked dry on their broadband and have closed it down to Poland only, which is a shame for all Poles in the UK who are speedway fans!
-
Looks like ITV.PL have banned people from watching the streaming speedway from outside of Poland. You get sound but no picture. "Dostęp do tego materiału nie jest możliwy z terytorium kraju z którego się z nami łączysz." Which basically means , "you are not in Poland so clear off". Oh well if anyone knows a workaround let us know. We have to fool their server into thinking our internet connection is in Poland.

Chris Holder For Gp
Steve Shovlar replied to kaybtee's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Todays echo. Holder: World can wait By Phil Chard CHRIS Holder believes he won't be ready for the Grand Prix until 2010 at the earliest. Pirates' chiefs Neil Middleditch and Matt Ford have been publicly promoting the young gun's cause to be awarded World Championship status next year. But the modest Aussie has played down talk he should be given one of four seeded places for 2009. Holder, however, admitted he'd love the chance to pit his wits against the best as a one-off wild card. It's just the 20-year-old Poole Castle Cover rider, who Ford tipped as a future world champion two years ago, genuinely doesn't believe he's ready for regularly GP racing. Holder, who has boosted his chances of receiving a wild card this year by producing a storming debut Elite League campaign, said: "It's alright to beat a GP guy now and then, but they go up to a different level in the GPs. "It's not easy racing regularly at that level, and I'm not interested if I do or not at the moment." As flattered as he is by Middlo's and Ford's comments that he is ready for World Championship action, Holder added: "You need to spend a lot more time and money to be competitive in the GP and I don't think I'll be that competitive yet. "I might win a couple of races but I don't think I can spend all that money. It's probably better to wait a couple of years and hopefully get in it then. "If they wanted to give me a wild card I would take it. I'd snap their hand off. But to do the whole GP would be very hard because I still don't have a set up to do that." Holder, who showed Swindon's Leigh Adams his back wheel at Poole on Wednesday, is flattered by Middlo's and Ford's comments that he is ready for GP competition. But he's determined not to get carried away, although his long-term aim is bound to become individual world champion. With that in mind, Holder confirmed he would defend his Australian title over three rounds this winter. He said: "I'm definitely going back to race in the series because you have to finish in the top three to get into the GP qualifiers." Holder, who won all five Aussie rounds last winter, said: "I don't think many people realise how hard the Aussie title can be. "There are a lot of home track specialists who are so good around their tracks. "Freddie Lindgren didn't make the rostrum once in the five rounds last winter. Just because people don't know some of the riders' names, it's not easy. "It's not as hard as some championships but it's still tough." -
Chris Holder For Gp
Steve Shovlar replied to kaybtee's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
With all due respect to Woffinden he is obviously not yet ready. He needs to move up and do a year in the EL. If he manages to average around 9 then he is worth putting in the gPs. Holder on the other hand is a bit of a one off. He has adapted to the EL like a fish to water, is going around equalling track records and would be a serious threat in the GP series. Far too early for him to win it but he wouldn't be a straggler either. His current ability could even se him make some semis. Nationality shouldn't play a part but it does, due to the TV audience. With Australia not taking the GPs live, I doubt he would stroll into a berth, but BSI are not blind and do want the best riders in the world taking part in their show. Holder is more than capable of kisking the butts of the bottom half of the field. It would be a travesty if he isn't one of he permament wild cards in 2009. -
Elite League Best Pairs
Steve Shovlar replied to hyderd's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
Actually Rabbit I had no interest in the event and forgot it was even on. Well done to all the riders that turned up. Poole won this last year and I never bothered going to that meeting either. If the riders don't take it seriously I am certinaly never going to and they won't get my money for this or the ELRC on Wednesday. -

Nicholls, AJ etc should be automaically given a 28 day ban if they fail to ride. Simple as that. Their reasons are NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Fans pay good money to come to events like this and want to se the top guys in action. -
Its the Poole effect. Same as Zorro is tonight crowned Swedish Champion!!! Well done to both!!

Bjarne Is Out Of Tonight Danish Championship!
Steve Shovlar replied to Zetters's topic in International World of Speedway
Glad to see Bjarne resting and putting his club first. -
Game over. Pedersen has this in the bag as I predicted in the winter. he is a class above the opposition. Pretty crap GP overall IMO with a couple of decent races near the end.

Vojens, How Many?
Steve Shovlar replied to mick cast's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
18,000 pre sold tickets plus whoever turned up. Crowd looked good but there were many more there in 93 for the world final. I stood on the first bend that night and I thnk it was 26,000.Mind you they had temp stands on the back straight. -
Well Done Denmark !
Steve Shovlar replied to Phil The Ace's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Quite out of charactor for Bjarne to lose it with Gollob. He is normally a placid guy who quietly goes about his business but he was clearly upset and to throw his back wheel and hand signals showed he was fired up. A few people think he is dull because he is quietly spoken, but Poole fans know what he can do and he does his talking on the track. While he is never going to be a world champion because he doesn't have that killer streak in him, he is still a very class act and big scorer, and I would be happy to keep him in the Poole team until his retirement. -
Well Done Denmark !

Difference is speedway in Denmark can get big press, like Poland and Sweden. The sport is taken seriously by the media and you can bet all the nationals will have full page pics and reports of the winning Danish team plastered across the front of newspapers. In the UK, with an final held at Coventry, with TeamGB winning a last heat deoider, and we might get a quarter of a column 5 pages in from the back in the Daily Express. -

A good meeting which I think would have been great but for the loss of Crump and the heavy shower which ruined the track. As soon as Crump dropped out the Aussies heads dropped and they didn't want to know. A shame. Denmark the better team and solid throughout. Polish riders were agressive and put themselves about. Sweden battled all the way. Well done to the Danes. -
Think the title of this thread is a bit unfair Zetters as TeamGB is typically in the final. However, in order: Denmark Autralia Sweden Poland Denmark are far too strong with Bjarne, NP and Andersen leading the way and backed up with Iversen and Bjerre. Bjarne is now showing his true form after a slow start to 2008. In the last few weeks he has been awesome. NP is NP and can and will beat anyone consistantly. Hans can blow a bit cold at times but should be well up for it. Bjerre and Iversen are the weaker links but on this track in front of their own fans should do well. Be a suprise if they don't take the title. Australia are almost as strong with Adams and Crump, but they do lack experience at the bottom end. Holder is in his first year at this level and although going to do well his inexperience may show through at times. Next year he will be much more experienced and a bigger force to join Adams and Crump. Watt is showing good form as well but not in the Adams/Crump bracket. He will drop points, as will Sullivan who if he doesn't gate will struggle. Sweden are riding above themselves and have done very well so far with the team they have out. On paper they look no stronger than GB but the will to win made all the difference. AJ will lead the way backed up by Lindgren and JD, who is now showing what he is capable of on a much more consistent basis. Nermark is riding way above himself and Ljung is showing the type of form he showed a feww years in the WTC which won Sweden the title. Poland will struggle on Saturday IMO. Gollob, Holta and Walasek will battle, and will be backed up by Hampel, but you have to say Jagus didn't show much form yesterday. I think they are the weakest team of the four on this track.

Let's Get Behind Team Gb
Steve Shovlar replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
£500 at 16/1 would return me £8,500 if TeamGB qualified. My maths is fine. But the odds are not available anyway. -

Steve Shovlar replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
16/1 would have been a risk well worth taking if it was to qualify. An injury or ef at the wrong tome, plus the use of the joker can see us through. Poland sometimes don't travel well and tonight could be the night. Obviously the odds are stacked against us going through, but the riders might ride above themselves tonight to make up for Mondays abysmal performance. Well am hoping so! -

If that is to qualify I am going to risk £500 on TeamGB. Providing I can get the bet on somewhere. -

Steve Shovlar replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I have a feeling we are going to do well tonight. Looking at those lineups rider for rider we could qualify if the riders show bulldog fight and the right attitude. They ahve to give it their all or will come up short, but its a new day on a new track and as long as TeamGB start well enough there could be a chance here of making the final.
