Wouldn't consider Harris in a onth of Sundays. Completely out of his depth and sorry to see. that Cardiff win was clearly a fluke. I would go with one Brit in Nicholls. There isn't anyone else who can fill the second spot at the moment. Give it a coule of years and we might have but not for 2009. Give the extra place to a foriegner who can at least challege for some points. -

No I don't care for your opinion but you are entitled to it as I am entitled to mine. Really only a few Newport fans with yourself and Colin Cooke are kicking up a stink. Some Newport fans see this is a sensible move and that it could be back at Newport in 2010. Why all the bleating though I can't understand. Poole have made it clear it is for one year only. If they had said its now ours every year, then I could understand the crap being thrown in the Dorset direction. -

But you should read it again. It doesn't say they have got the meeting and it will go ahead. Its says the NYC is set to continue. It says the guy who wants to be promoter has ASKED the Reading promotion to run it. ( getting a massive feeling od deja vu here) but they didn't apply, only Poole did. -

That wasn't what you said wrong. What you incriminated yourself on was saying that Matt Ford applied for the meeting three days after Tim Stone had passed away, which is completely false. Then continuing by calling it "blood money", "downright disrespectful", then calling the Poole promoter "The Undertaker". The way you have worded it makes people believe its th truth, and that Poole got the meeting before Tim Stone was cold in his grave. If you think that isn't libellous, you have a lot to learn. As for the Star, Looks like Oakes got false information which you have taken as correct, because, for the umteenth time, Poole were the only club to apply. -

Sorry to say you are just very bitter and have done your very best to cause havoc for the Poole promotion. I know 100% that what I have posted is correct, no matter how you continue to moan and groan about it. In truth it's getting to the stage where I for one hope the winter meeting is from now on passed around all clubs. Why should one club have the monopoly on this event? Give it to Sheffield next year, and Wolverhampton the year after. Newport don't have some god give right to run this meeting no matter how much spin and abuse you throw at Poole. To say Poole applied for this meeting 3 days after Stone's death reeks of trying to stir up a hornets next and to some extent you have succeeded with all the bad feeling on here. Colin Cooke has got so involved and wound up by your posts he has libelled himself by making false claims detrimental to Poole Speedway and Matt Ford in particular. I know I would react to such comments. But perhaps the Poole promotion have a cooler head than the hot heads on here. -

First of all the cut off date was 30th September, so he didn't apply. 11 days too late to be accepted. I know for a fact that Pole speedway applied for it in the middle of the summer. So agin yoou are very wrong. But considering the rules were that all applications have to be in by 30th september, it makes no diffeence, as it was not on a first comes first served basis. You have been fed false information and made a false allegation on a public forum. Would have been better to have kept this to yoourselve rather than incriminate yourself on hearsay. -

A club cannot run a speedway meeting without a promoter in place who is a member of the BSPA, so it has always been a no go until probate has been completed and the new promoter announced and accepted into the BSPA. -

Good god a voice of reason from an unlikely source. I don't think there's a single speedway fan in the whole country that doesn't want to see Newport back in the fold and prospering under its new promotion. They used to get big crowds and it is possible to get them back with a decent team in place. However the NYC came too early and they haven't even declared their intent to run in 2009 yet. Meetings take time to advertise, riders need to be contacted, the buzz needs to be built up and Newport currently don't have a promoter, so couldn't run ever if they wanted to. As the Poole promotion have said, it's only at Wimborne Road for one season, and could be well heading back across the Severn Bridge for 2010. So rather the abuse and bad feeling being generated by a few Newport fans, perhaps they should chill out, arrange a coach between themselves and come and watch The Champions Of Champions on January 4th. -

Of course Poole didn't write those few lines on the BSPA site. That all comes from The BSPA press officer. Poole press release can be found on their site and the speedwayworld.tv site, which were both released at 11 am yesterday. No alterations there. Mind you any excuse to have a pop at Poole, eh? If it had been Stoke or Scunthorpe we wouldn't have heard a peep. -

It certainly should be when it returns to Newport. But it would be wrong to call it that this time around as Tim Stone had no connection with Poole and in marketing terms the name will mean little or nothing to the average Poole fan. And before anyone jumps on that comment, I don't mean it disrespectfully. Hence perhaps the reason the name is being changed from NYC to Champion of Champions. When, or if, it returns to Newport, it should be called the Tim Stone Memorial Trophy. -

The local Echo printed this yesterday. Again no disrespect and a clear indication that poole only have the event for one year. MATT Ford has confirmed Poole will become the first British speedway venue to host a 2009 meeting – on Sunday January 4. Castle Cover Pirates chief Ford, still on cloud nine following the Dorset club’s Elite League title win, has obtained the British Speedway Promoters’ Association off-season licence for one year only. And Ford is hoping to put on a Champion of Champions event at Wimborne Road after Newport, which staged the New Year event in the past, was forced to close down following the death of promoter Tim Stone earlier this year. Ford told the Echo: “I am pleased to announce that the next two meetings at Poole will be on two Sunday dates at 3pm – October 26 and January 4. “I’m absolutely thrilled that the Association has ratified that Poole stage the New Year meeting after I applied in the summer. “It’s going to be difficult but I want to keep up the high standards that Tim (Stone) has provided at Newport in recent years. He was one of the sport’s decent promoters and is desperately missed by us all. “The actual premise of the event in January is in its infancy, but I am hoping to bring together a ‘Champion of Champions’ individual which will involve as many of the sport’s current national champions as possible – the European champ, world under-21 champ, etc. “Unfortunately it will not involve the Aussie national champion, Chris Holder, who will be at home Down Under and enjoying a well-deserved break. “But I believe it can incorporate a wonderful array of track talent worldwide. I’m confident the New Year meeting legacy that Tim left will be as strong as ever in its switch to Dorset.” With Poole’s licence only valid for a year, other clubs could also get in on the New Year act from 2010. Ford added: “After such a successful Diamond Jubilee year in 2008 – and with the Elite Knockout Cup final, second leg at Poole on Sunday week still to come – I am especially keen to give Poole fans another first at the start of next year. “But I certainly have no intention of monopolising this event. There’s only one close season licence and I count myself very fortunate that we have it in 2009. To my mind, this is one of British speedway’s crown jewel events in the calendar. But I don’t have a divine right to stage it every year.” Ford also confirmed that children will be admitted free for the Knockout Cup final second leg at Wimborne Road next Sunday, provided they are with a paying adult. Ford said: “After last Monday’s packed house for our league win, I want as many kids to jump on the bandwagon and join in the celebrations in this great year for the team. “Sunday week is another huge meeting for the club and the town as we go for a third league and cup double in five years against Eastbourne. “If we can double the amount of children in the stadium on October 26 it will add to a real carnival atmosphere. I want the fans of tomorrow to enjoy this season as much everyone else. Here’s an opportunity for them not to miss out.” -

I left the first line out because it is innacurate. Poole will not be staging the NYC. They will be staging the Champions Of Champions. I thnk you should moan at that sites webmaster, or the BSPA who released the few lines. Why have a go at Poole because you don't like the way a few lines are worded on the BSPA site is silly. On the speedwayworld.tv site it says this. POOLE have been awarded the licence to hold a winter meeting in the UK at the beginning of 2009. The New Year Classic event was pioneered at Newport by the late Tim Stone, who successfully staged the event for a decade in early January. Stone passed away earlier this season, and the future of the club is still uncertain although efforts are being made to revive the Wasps. There had been suggestions that the winter meeting would remain at the Hayley Stadium, but Poole chief Matt Ford has now confirmed that there will be a major event at Wimborne Road on January 4. Ford said: "I'm absolutely thrilled that the Association have ratified that Poole stage the New Year meeting after I applied in the summer. "It's going to be difficult but I want to keep up the high standards that Tim (Stone) has provided at Newport I recent years. He was one of the sport's decent promoters and is desperately missed by us all. "The actual premise of the event in January is in its infancy, but I am hoping to bring together a Champion of Champions individual which will involve as many of the sport's current national champions as possible. "I believe it can incorporate a wonderful array of track talent worldwide. I'm confident the New Year meeting legacy that Tim left will be as strong as ever in its switch to Dorset." Ford has confirmed that the arrangement is for one year only and the winter licence is therefore open to other clubs for 2010. Is that better? -

What is says on the british spedway site is this. Pirates bosses have won the race to stage the event after the loss of Newport following the sad passing of club boss Tim Stone. Pirates promoter Matt Ford said, " Wer'e delighted to stage this event and we want to meet the high standards set by Tim at Newport. He is sadly missed." Sorry really cannot see anything wrong with that. -

Poole are only the victims of some very unfair critisism. Whilst I can understand Newport fans disappointment, they seem to not understand that it was put out to tender and clubs invited to apply because newport are not currently running. The small inaccurate article in the speedway star raised false hopes and when it came crashing down it seemed that Poole were the big bad boys, which is frankly ridiculous. -

Looks like my point is proved. It looks like Newport fans would rather there be no meeting at all than someone else run it.
