  1. Can anyone tell me the price of the cheapest single ticket for the Cardiff GP? has a look at the website cant make head or tail of it, its all about family tickets and bands all I need is one ticket.
  2. I remember at Newport's old Somerton Park Track in 76 I think there was a problem with the red lights around the track not working. Maurice Morley the Newport promoter wanted the meeting to go ahead using the red exclusion light as a signal to stop the race, combined the track staff waving red flags around the track . The riders were quite happy with the arrangement, however the referee wasn't and the match was postponed. The following week as a guesture of good faith everyone was let in free regardless of weather they had a readmisson ticket
  3. I was reading some programms from the early days of the British Leauge, and come across this formula which could be adapted to bring on one ' fast track ' rider as opposed to the current two, and not diluting the strength of the Leauge. There is one reserve, the No7, and the return of the suplementary reserve ( remember the old * next to the name of the next lowest scorer ) who could be used in the event of an injury to the reserve, safeguards could be put in place to stop clubs rulebending on this issue. The Top two must ride at either 1 or 5 , and the other 4 members of the top 6 can ride in any order. ht Home Away 1 1 & 2 1 & 2 2 3 4 3 4 3 5 6 5 6 4 2 7 2 7 5 5 6 3 4 6 3 4 1 2 7 1 2 5 6 8 4 7 4 7 9 5 6 1 2 10 3 4 5 6 11 1 2 3 4 12 6 7 6 7 13 1 5 1 5 14 3 7 3 7 15 top scorers/ nominated race If a team is 10 or more points down one tactical subtitute ride is allowed - 1 & 5 cannot be used in any race where the no 7 is taking part. Seems a bit simpler with 3 distinct pairings in each team, and protection for the reserve. Stands by to be shot down in flames !
  4. The best announcer I heard in recent years was Jason Harrold at defunct Newport
  5. What is not in doubt is that Speedway is a spectacular exciting sport, it just needs to be managed properly. Maybe what is needed is someone maybe not associated with the sport, to stand back look at the structure , the riules etc of British Speedway in depth , grab it by the scuff of the neck and say ' this is what has to done '
  6. Just heard that Darcy Ward has failed an alcohol test and is out of the GP today. What a foolish young man
  7. Very enjoyable meeting, tremendous last ride from Iversen, however the fact that the joker was used, and in real money the Poles scored more points, meant the the victory was a little hollow for me. Yes thems the rules as its been pointed out, and all the teams knew them before they started, however major meetings are being decided too often by the use of this rule for my liking and it seriously needs looking at. As for Roscoe, I guess his remit for the year was to make the final which he achived, and would guess that would be the case for the next couple of years, the big challenge is to bring through the talent to support Tai and start pushing for a rostrum place and above.
  8. I think I rider has been excluded twice from the same race twice, I remember reading the Speedway Star back in 1970 about an incident at Newport's Somerton Park the details I'm not sure about , but I think Jon Erskine was excluded from heat 2 twice, I cant recall the circumstances, maybe someone out there can remember ?
  9. Sad to say guests are a nesescerry evil in the sport. Speedway works best if the teams are reasonably evenly matched. If a team turns up minus it's best rider, or minus a few riders due to injury or international duties then I would not want to see them replaced by juniors and the lousy match that would follow. You cannot replace a 10 point star rider with a novice.
  10. Could anyone direct me to a site that has club averages for riders who rode in the 1964 provincal Leauge, thanks
  11. Yes - , Tony Rickardson a few years back , throwing heat 13 on TV to prevent an old style tac sub being used in heat 14, Ryan Sullivan not crossing the line in one race to allow a tactical to be used by Poole in the following race, A match at Oxford where a heavy defeat was suffered after qualification for the play - offs, the match at Swindon a couple of years back when everyone knew what was happening, how much more proof do you want ?
  12. There is no doubt Poole are a well run club, however they bend and manipulate rules, cheat, throw matches and races, and this leads to the hatred shown on these boards. What concerns me is for the return Poole not going 10 ahead before heat 12, thus stopping the Robins using any tacticals. I wouldnt put it past them to manipulate this situation, If I were Swindon I'd watch the cheating sods carefully.
  13. I found this old clip on U tube , heat 18 is a truly amazing race, one of the best I've seen anywhere. This guy is a complete nutter .
  14. Over the past few years BSI appeared to get the surface at Cardiff pretty much nailed on - it has always been excellent. However clearly something went wrong on this occasion. ( I still enjoyed the meeting though ). I would hope that BSI have a full enquiry into what happened, publish it - and take steps to ensure it doesn't happen again. And I will be going again next year. On the plus side I enjoyed the riders introduction great idea.
  15. I think the ref got it wrong, Tai appeared to pick up drive in the corner and head into Nikki, Vaculik laid his bike down to avoid the crash he could see was coming when Tia went past him at a rate of knots
  16. Speedway is a great sport, that sometimes shoots itself in the foot, what it needs as a supremo, if need be from outside the sport to grab it by the neck and say what needs to be done and how to implament it. The problem is not the basic product, ie: four guys roaring round a track its presentaion publicity etc.
  17. I always buy mine on the day , I find its the easiest stress free way.
  18. I visited the Stadium a few years back to watch a football match, as I remember there is housing quite nearby so there could be a problem there as well
  19. I think Bob Hughes was born in Anglesey North Wales. If memory serves me he was a useful 1st Div 2nd String/ Reserve.
  20. I like the Aces, I Like the Lions as well, whose the best ? - only one way to find out.................................... FIGHT !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. i saw Briggo's wins in 68,69,70. Hyde Road was a wonderful venue, always packed for the meeting. I recall in 69 just making it into the stadium, there were hundereds behind me locked out. I had to sit on my Fathers shoulders to watch the races
