Just to add a couple of comments on this. Firstly, Darcy wasn't poor last night against Wolves, he had a 2nd and 2 wins before crashing out whilst attempting to overtake Freddie and Tai!! Secondly, wasn't the 'post-meeting' celebration in Torun an official club function, attended by Torun officials, sponsors, mechanics, riders (from both teams) and fans!! To be clear, I am in no way condoning their behaviour - particularly Holder's - but would question whether things would be considered better or worse, if the 'story' hadn't been in the media?! It'll be interesting to see if Torun officials take any action?? For those quoting the 'role model' argument, I thought the sport was failing to attract a younger audience anyway, so another box ticked then?! -
Is Speedway A Family Sport

Midday on Good Fridays etc makes for poor tracks and racing imo. I see Lakeside are now promoting their meetings as 'The Original Extreme Sport' - it would be interesting to hear from Hammers fans if there is any difference to crowd numbers??! -

Speedway Outpricing Itself?
SteveLyric2 replied to mike1944's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Unfortunately I think that you have some EL promoters and some fans who believe that it is only 'the top riders' (ie GP standard) that fans want to come and see. Within that point of view is the fear factor that many fans would not continue to come if the there were no top riders (or they were only competing in a small Super League of sorts). For the sport to continue, the weekly 'bread and butter' league speedway in the uk needs to be affordable and sustainable. Good racing will still generate a whole new breed of 'stars' that can create their own publicity - the knack for promoters is only to pay what they can afford and for fans to only be charged what they can afford! -
I thought this happened everywhere!!!!

Well done to another Lanning doing their best to publicise speedway nationally. There is usually a small piece of speedway news in the Sun every Saturday, but this was exceptional, in the UK's largest circulation daily!!!

Poole usually start the Rider Parade at 7.30, with first race at 7.45pm and are usually spot-on! If bad weather is forecast, then they dispense with the parade and go straight in with the racing. On Good Friday they started bang on 12 noon, as advertised, but the meeting took nearly 2 and a half hours to complete with track work, fence repairs and rider injuries!!

I've now watched a re-run of Monday's meeting (didn't watch it live as I preferred the footie and BBCWM's coverage of Wolves v Poole) and thoroughly enjoyed the 'new coverage'. Aside from any personal views about the presenting personnel, there are not many if any suitable alternatives. Good on Sky for trying out Ryan - he will only get better, before he disappears back to Oz! - and I don't dislike the Charlie Webster interviews - never as good as Suzi Perry or Sophie Blake - but she is learning. Maybe each track or Sky should put her in an enclosed studio environment and she could adopt her FHM magazine attire when doing the interviews??! It could act like the 2-minute warning!
