  1. Yes but Sky's contract for the Premiership and other footie is negotiated about 2 years prior to commencement, not a few weeks/months before!!!
  2. Not saying I told you so, but I told you so!!
  3. Well with Harris back at Coventry, Barker still a Bees asset (and Horton not doing future business with Brummies?!), Doyle definitely going elsewhere and now an offer for King, its not looking too positive for Brummies at the top level!! But then it ain't looking that positive for any clubs at the 'top' level!!!!
  4. I thought it was pretty well documented that all EL clubs received around £90k/£100k from Sky as a 'flat fee'. Plus each home club received an additional fee for a televised meeting, between £5k and £10k, which was originally agreed to help offset any fall-off in attendance. Whatever everyone's thoughts/bias towards their own club, presumably Sky selected the meetings that would expect to attract the best audience?! If Sky chose not to cover Bees (or any other club) meetings then it presumably reflected that team's league position and opponents at that time!
  5. Also posted elsewhere that Tai is scheduled to appear on BT SPORT Live this evening - BT Sport1 from 7pm to 8pm!
  6. Always good to read a post with a correct amount of balance, rather than the 1000% anti-Poole post based on rumour, opinion etc!!
  7. Tai is also scheduled to appear on BT Sport Live on Wednesday evening!! Maybe there is hope after Sky from BT Sport after all??!!
  8. Hardly relevant in a 'Wolverhampton 2014' thread??!
  9. Serious question - Does Nigel Pearson always do the Brummies stories in the Birmingham Mail?
  10. Yes a great interview. Well done Tai and Colin Murray (and Nigel Pearson for presumably setting it up?!)
  11. Its unlike you to come out with something so helpful SB!!?? So on that basis, we shall at least look forward to the End of Season Sky programme that usually appears around Christmas/New Year!!
  12. Anyone would think you have an anti-Poole viewpoint, PhilfromCov!!!!? Tut tut. Lets not forget Poole have also 'signed' a couple of riders already!! The Promoters already know - in broad terms - what options are being proposed at the AGM and are on the agenda for further discussion. The final choices just need to be formally voted on and approved - by all clubs - once the Sky issue is clear(er)!! The state of all clubs finances is also then made known to each club at the AGM - which is why(?) the AGM doesn't take place until well into November - and all clubs can then see how far 'up s##t creek' they really are!!
  13. One of the challenges 'Speedwayfun' is that there will always be fans who want to see the big stars, in the hope that there will always be great racing! Whilst equally there are also fans who prefer teams of a more equal skill/experience level as the racing is often more competitive and entertaining ( eg EL v PL?!). One of the biggest issues currently is that many promoters - at all levels of the sport in UK - are losing money. In some cases, as has been reported, huge amounts, that place their very existence in some doubt. And that is despite the benefit of the Sky monies during the past 15 years. If Sky do not continue (or even if they do) there will not be the same sort of money available to clubs to help 'bail them out'!! Unfortunately, it would seem that most (EL)clubs have used the SKy monies to settle earlier debts or to pay out to riders, who in turn pay out to engine providers and tuners to get the best machinery available. Hardly any of the money appears to have been used, at club level, to offer incentives to the paying public!! So prices have continued upwards, racing has not improved as teams are generally made up of one or two top riders and 4-5 others of lesser ability and track preparation has become slicker and slicker to suit the new 'slicker' and highly tuned machines. So that gives the Promoters a massive dilemma, as to which way to go?! Many clubs will be seeking to cut costs/save money and how do they do that? One way is cutting out the expensive riders, working to a lower points limit and/or imposing some sort of wages cap (which can always be got round by additional sponsorship?!). Some clubs - and Poole have been often placed in this category - would prefer to retain the top riders, but without Sky money they and others may not be able to achieve this at least for the time being. For me -and I stress only in the short term - the sport needs to retain as many teams as possible to maintain a credible league structure and regular fixture list, whilst at the same time make it more affordable for the fans!!
  14. I hear Kennett and Morris shared the 'Bonus Point King' trophy at the D/D on Saturday?! Hope Eddie didn't get as much stick as he gets on here?!
  15. I don't believe they are planning to track both - at least not at the same time!! They might be hoping to, but it ain't gonna happen!!
  16. Isn't the Euro League still on Armando Castagna's (FIM) agenda? If they can get all the TV rights sorted??!
  17. I think it well and truly 'extinguished' the season!!!
  18. Done!! And Dudek for Rookie of the year too!!
  19. ..because that would mean the KOC being held towards the end of the season - another nail in the coffin!
  20. The results of the tender process for future coverage of the Champions League (Football!) matches will be known by next Thursday - 7th November!! The winners (and losers) will undoubtedly have an impact on whether Speedway features on Sky - at a reduced financial level - in the future!!!!!?
  21. So, MF has repeated that if there is no Sky deal in place then its unlikely there will be any Holder, Ward or Janowski in 2014. www.bournemouthecho.co.uk He is also looking to add to the Poole asset base some 'middle order' riders eg 5/6 pointers?! Watch this space............
  22. Not a 'dig' at all! (not from me, maybe Semion?!) The Poole track at Baiter is well attended and its a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!! In the context of the thread, my post was in response to Semion's, which seemed to be describing Cycle Speedway, which is just not, and never will be a 'replacement' for motorcycle speedway!
