  1. A bit of imagination and the right funding? Yes. Multi storey car parking would free up a lot of the existing parking space. Covered grandstands for seating or standing on at least 3 sides would contain a lot more of the noise! Hotel, apartments, restaurants, clubhouse, hospitality, offices etc can be built upwards rather than all at ground level!
  2. Come off it GRW123, most team sports are subject to a change in line-up before every match. No fan will know for definite what the full team is or when a substitute might come on until they are at the stadium. They do know that the match will last 80 or 90 minutes - depending on the sport - in the same way as we know there will be 15 heats!!
  3. Quite true Foamfence!! I expect the clubs know who the additional 7 or so riders are going to be, but as its not been made known to the fans there will probably be 'major implications' or 'a massive disaster' for the future of the sport, just like the new race format!!!!!!!
  4. New statements coming out today in the local paper and on the Poole website from all concerned including Matt Ford, Stadia UK, the local business organisations and local Councillors. It seems to me they will be looking at whether they can enlarge/improve the existing stadium to take all 3 sports - and the Council do still want ALL 3 sports as a minimum! - OR whether a new 'Multi-Purpose Sports Arena' can be built and financed on the site?! For those wanting much better all-round facilities, then the latter seems the better longer term option.
  5. What guarantees can outgoing owner Sandhu actually give that dogs and speedway WILL continue for 3 years??? Even if its written into some sort of purchase contract, as I've said before, the new owners could still buy out the clause if they want to proceed quickly!! Why do people think the dogs are going back in?!
  6. Some great news for the Bees after other 'announcements' this week. Really good to retain sponsors in this economic climate!
  7. The first official EL meeting requiring the new format is not until 24th March! Maybe the reason for the non-announcement is that it has not yet been ratified by all concerned?!
  8. VAT is 20% which is 20/100ths which is 2/10ths which is 1/5th.
  9. Agree, but as this meeting is promoted/organised/marketed by the Poles and the World Champion's name was mentioned some time ago, that's why the info came to my attention - no 'trawling' of Polish websites for me!! It was even on the speedwaygp.com site on 18th!!!
  10. Don't really want to be involved with dragging all this up again, but verdicts of 'Not Guilty' and 'No Conviction' should be remembered! As someone who has met Darcy on many occasions - particularly last season - I can confirm he has acquired a much more mature and professional approach to his life in general and Speedway in particular! He may not win the SGP series this year but he will certainly have a big influence on the final placings!
  11. Really?? What agenda is that then? Nobody wants to see any Speedway club under threat, but I do tend to doubt some speedway statements that can be easily questioned!! The following extract is from an article quoting Jeremy Heaver which appeared in the Coventry Telegraph in November 2012:: Jeremy Heaver, the stadium’s former head of operations and now stock car promoter at the venue, also insisted any sale would not affect the stadium’s tenants, including the speedway team, and stock car and greyhound racing. He said: “It’s for sale as freehold as an investment opportunity. If someone buys the freehold, in many years time when the lease has run out, you could redevelop, but there’s no need to be concerned because they are quite long leases – we’re talking tens of years each. “It’s a lot like buying the freehold on a block of flats – it does not make a difference to the people in the flats, it just means they have got a different landlord.” Mr Heaver added: “I think Mr Sandhu is just trying to gauge interest. So is it 2-3 years or 'tens of years each'?? Just questioning!! In all seriousness, Mr Sandhu ( or any other stadium owner in a similar position) has known about the possibility of a sale for some considerable time, so why wouldn't he already have in place a 'land specialist' to source a new site?? And why wouldn't he make that public??
  12. The Tactical rule in curling allows for a stone that is twice the size of all the others!! It has 2 purposes - to cover the whole of the target area, scoring triple points - and/or to split any other stones that it comes into contact with, in two!! I can't understand why it wasn't used either??
  13. Hardly a wind-up on this occasion - merely stating a fact - and to illustrate once again how poor communication is in British speedway!! The sooner 'the powers that be' start to embrace social media in a positive and proactive way, they will realise that the old methods of communication eg press releases, are no longer sufficient!!!
  14. Maybe similar to what the British Leagues offer certain Poles and Swedes???
  15. Scott Nicholls plus 6 others, apparently!! To include (possibly) Doyle, Ljung, Hougaard and Korneliussen??
  16. On a Coventry thread - well theres a surprise!!!!! Just a question - If Sandhu has sold/is about to sell the stadium, how can he make statements that 'motorsport is safe for 3 years' at Brandon? It won't be upto him, even if there's some sort of clause in the contract - that can always be bought out by the new owners if the developers are able - or want - to progress quickly!! I note that he has said he is to seek a new site for speedway, but giving an email and mobile number for people to contact him does not sound quite so proactive or professional as employing a specialist to locate a suitable space - and for people to contact them!! Maybe Mick Horton's future choices will include the 'Oxford Bees', or maybe even the 'Coventry Cheetahs'????
  17. I would think Holder, Ward, Pawlicki, Janowski!! They're all Poole contracted or Poole domiciled!!
  18. You clearly haven't read many of my posts then!! Where have I said there's nothing wrong in the way speedway is run? I agree with most of your final sentence - its just that I do not place the announcing of a new race format before the season starts as a high priority!! The EL promoters are trying to dig themselves out of a large hole - which is mainly (not solely) of their own making - and this season's changes should be seen as a first step to cutting costs, whilst retaining some top riders! The alternatives would have seen the demise of the EL; possibly no TV contract and what would have remained would be an enlarged PL which the PL promoters didn't want !! I am aware of a proposal from 2 (senior) EL promoters to reduce the EL adult admission charges by upto £2, to reflect the Brit reserves, but that would have meant the PL being more expensive, which is i) crazy and ii) had the PL promoters flatly refusing to reduce their admission prices or introducing the '2 Brit rule' to the PL!
  19. Curling is being included in the Scottish Nationality/Independence vote as all the Team GB members are Scottish and all the 'curling stones' are made in Scotland. If the vote is for Scotland to go their own way - then the rest of the country will probably never hear of curling again! A bit like speedway now I come to think of it!!
  20. What the BSPA should be doing is to work with the Polish, Swedish authorities to ensure as many Brits get places in their leagues as that is the only way to improve their skills and experience - not continuing to race on UK tracks in weakened British leagues!!
  21. If you saw the Polish press release, (as they are the ones promoting/organising the meeting, apparently) it was 'official' several days ago!!
  22. ...But that's exactly the point, I will wait and see in the first meetings!!! 3 sets of riders???? Reserves will stay as reserves. Heat leaders and 2nd strings will either stay as heat leaders and 2nd strings or they will swap around depending on their scores and the calculation chosen to establish their averages, which will possibly be different to previous seasons if they have a different number of rides per meeting?! Where's the drama, the problems and the headaches this year in all of that??? As far as 2015 is concerned, of course there will be a different way to calculate averages - probably based upon how the 2014 season develops!! Probably much more important for 2015 will be the news coming out of Coventry as to any doubts over the future of the Bees - much much more important than knowing a meeting format pre-season!!
