I have a theory that its in the rules that a meeting result can be called after heat 10 - but it could be a conspiracy on my part?!

Great post!!

Yes, I've heard that very recently too!! People still seem to be missing the point!! Its not the televising of meetings that's the issue, its the Money that WON'T be coming into the sport!! Non-televised league meetings may actually have a beneficial effect on attendances, if the promoters get the admission charge structure right!! Go-Speed could employ a sports production company to film some weekly speedway highlights and then try to sell a weekly/monthly programme to a TV company.

Minority Sport Pays £95 Grand To The Winner !
SteveLyric2 replied to rob tatum's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
A 'minority' sport - played and watched by many, many thousands in many countries!! -
Should be introduced at NL level immeadiately and as soon as production levels have increased, to the PL (or next league level up) asap!
-
Cheers. Any indication of how the attendance compares to a normal Nottingham EL match?

R/r For A Rider Riding Elsewhere?
SteveLyric2 replied to TheReturn's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Why would it matter to a newcomer. They would usually be happy to see 15 heats of decent racing between 6 or 7 riders on each team! If they actually buy a programme or racecard, they can fill in any gaps in the races simply by listening to announcements or checking the scoreboard - assuming there is one. -
So the 'big weekend' was in Nottingham - and Nottingham won the final(s)? mmmm??! As a matter of interest, whats the attendance capacity and price for the 'big weekend'?

If Sky remain interested, they should forget about 'live' meetings and just run a weekly highlights package of the best races available to them. This could include league meetings from all levels - plus possibly some from abroad(?) - but would also have to include footage supplied by some of the clubs own video/production companies (not sure if this would have to be in HD or whether Sky would insist on HD quality if the show wasn't going out live)?! Clubs could also run an 'edited' version of the show on their own website as a promotional tool, to attract more punters to attend! It would be interested to see what the difference would be in both viewing figures and meeting attendances!

Somerset V Ipswich Monday 16/9
SteveLyric2 replied to oldtimer's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Shouldn't make any difference if the teams are already announced/declared!! -
A bit more passing on the 'sand track' than in previous rounds, but not much; a purpose-built speedway stadium probably only 25% full, but probably the same bloke doing the stadium music as at Poole; too many breaks for track-grading; a drawn-out 3 hours of TV coverage for a meeting that could have been run in under 2! Much better crowd, atmosphere and racing at most Poole meetings and all complete within 2 hours - unless Sky are present!

I've watched both rounds of the Euros so far on TV, and despite the great atmosphere created in the stadia - especially the last one - and some reasonable racing, but no better than any average meeting, I find myself getting quite bored by them and very tempted to switch off before the end! Perhaps its because they don't actually mean much? Winning doesn't qualify you for anything other than the title of Euro Champion or whatever! I feel a bit like that with some of the GPs but at least they all progress to an ultimate goal and there's a recognised World Champion title at the end of it! Or maybe its because we know the riders are just riding for the big money on offer.

Except that for Ice Hockey, you can usually sit down in some semblance of comfort - albeit cold - compared to a lot of Speedway tracks; and the matches don't tend to run the risk of being called off by the weather! Surely this idea of streaming is if/when Sky are no longer involved, so that the only televised meetings will be what Eurosport currently cover. You must agree that promoters have really missed a trick - albeit in some cases for good reason - by failing to utilise the Sky funds to promote and attract new business!?
