Yesterday, going into today - if the Team GB announcement is anything to go by!!!!
-
Congrats Alun. Best man for the job, by far!! I'm glad 'the panel' listened to Middlo!
-
Lets not forget that for every £17, only £13.60 goes to the Speedway promoter, to cover the costs!! Similarly if it was £10, only £8 for speedway!!
-
I do have empathy with both ColinMills and AndyK's points of view, because both have elements of being right. I am not sure if speedway fans generally are any different to fans of other sports? Some footie fans prefer to attend Premiership matches and pay the going rate - some support Divisions 2 or 3 or even grass roots football! In speedway, some prefer EL, some prefer PL - often (but not always) dependant on what is available close to where they live. Also some insist its only the 'top riders' that make for great speedway - others argue that great racing is available at all levels. The key issue for EVERYONE is one of cost and value for money. League speedway in UK needs to be affordable for all including Promoters and riders - especially in the current financial climate - and also needs to be value for money for the Fans. Getting the right balance is clearly a nightmare as there is no one solution that will please all, not least because all clubs/fans are basing their preferences on what they have become used to. The first major step (for all countries) is to somehow cut the costs of machinery and everything related to maintaining bikes for league racing. If that can be achieved, without affecting the quality/excitement of racing, then it would be a major step forward towards stabilising the sport, reducing costs and attracting fans (back)! Any moneys from Sponsorship/Sky deal/TV deal should be utilised to that end!

I guess your club doesn't do any of those things then?! Do you not get a chance to go in the pits either or meet the riders after the meeting or be part of the supporters club? etc etc ...and I thought Sheffield were one of the progressive clubs?!!

Which by the same logic/average makes Chris Holder the best rider in the EL in 2013!! -

Any visa issues are certainly not putting Rohan off at Gillman today!!!! -
I still don't know what PR advantage Sky (if it is Sky? ) will have in making any announcement?! They will in effect and in reality be committing to a 'deal' that is much less that in any one of the past 15(?) or so years. Why would any organisation make a big announcement like that?? Its for the BSPA to announce - along with some new sponsorship, hopefully!!!
-
I'm sure the Glasgow promotion won't go back on it though - unlike Plymouth!!!!
-
I thought it had been........?! Ooops.
-
Hearn would be more suited to the individual competitions eg GPs, British final, rather than league speedway!! Unless of course he owned all the clubs in the league and turned it into more of a circus than it is at the moment!
-
..and with Nick Morris in the side by the sounds of it!!!!!!!!!
-
The late Tony Millard was mainly responsible for introducing them across many sports, local radio and newspapers etc. They were a decent revenue earner for clubs and the other organisations that used them (and Tony Millard's company!!) but have been mainly overtaken by social media - Except if you are entering a competition on a TV programme!!!!!!!
-
Maybe a signature - or 'X' in the right place?! I'm sure someone will arrange another drinks reception on the terrace at the House of Commons to discuss the options!!
-
I've just dragged myself away from Sky Sports4 coverage of the The World Ping Pong Championships to see if there's been any update or announcement?! No, nothing! Still I can't recall any announcement about Ping Pong either - it just appeared in Sky's programme schedules!!

Paul Burbidge and Jason Doyle - apparently!!! -
As mentioned on some other 'team' threads, I believe this has originated from a Paul Burbidge (www.speedwaygp.com) tweet from Kurri Kurri after a conversation with Jason Doyle, in which Doyley apparently said that his application had been returned/refused!!?? No other 'facts' have emerged to date!!

What Now For Joe Screen?
SteveLyric2 replied to Hamish McRaker's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I think Screeny will be at Poole on March 21st for Havvy's Farewell meeting!!! -
The League Sponsorship issue (for all 3 leagues) was exactly what TR stated was the BSPA priority in the Speedway Star about 3 weeks ago. As far as any announcement about TV coverage is concerned, surely its down to the BSPA to confirm/announce that - as and when its right to do so - as its hardly going to be a high priority for whichever TV company has the rights, until they actually have something to include in their TV schedules!! Its all a bit pie in the Sky really!!!!!!

Yep, got mine yesterday!! -
You've clearly had some disappointments with the opposite sex in your life, but please don't align it to televised speedway!! Happy New Year!
