  1. Anyone reading the Leigh Adams update article in the Star a couple of weeks ago, will know only too well that Leigh believes the current World Champion is truly Australian!!
  2. The one obvious benefit Sky's involvement with speedway has had is keeping at least an 8-team EL going for 15years - because without the dosh slushing around the promoters, several clubs would have gone to the wall ages ago!! What the promoters have done with the dosh - including the live meeting fees - is a totally separate issue!!
  3. As a subscriber of Speedway Star since the mid-eighties, I can see all the alternative points of view expressed above. On the subject of Readers' Letters, could PR give us an idea of the ratio of 'letters received' to 'letters published' each week? And perhaps some clarification as to why some are not published, aside from the possibility that some may be libellous?!
  4. Except for the Sky promos for their Summer Sports coverage.........!
  5. Just need the PL promoters to agree then!!!!
  6. The only problem with that being that unless it resulted in 'Poole taking all the blame', it would still be seen as non-contentious by many on here!! Whereas the full report in the Ss did explain the circumstances and who was responsible for making decisions on the night - but of course that didn't suit some people's agendas!!
  7. The biggest problem is that all the 'foreign' teams' riders will want to be paid what they earn in Poland, Sweden etc, so I'm not surprised Poole - or any other British club - would think twice about staging it. Poole were one of the keenest for this competition to take place a couple of seasons ago - as were Sky - especially when there were lots of spare dates in the fixture list!!! Not sure there are that many spare Wednesday nights this year when it could be hosted?! Any 'off-raceday' could also be difficult as it would likely clash with the foreign fixtures as well as possibly meaning two home meetings in a week!
  8. Its not as if this Pairs event is new - they ran it last season and it was on Eurosport! Personally I thought it was a total borefest and the commentators struggling to keep any enthusiasm going for the TV viewer.
  9. That'll be the 2013 rulebook, I presume?!
  10. Surprised it took you so long WK - are you sober now!! ha ha. A good win though, even if it was the worst penalty shoot-out ever!!
  11. The 3 rounds are on Fridays and Saturdays. Poole are due at Lakeside on 28/3 and Arlington on the 10th May!! Not so worried about the first fixture as its only a challenge - even though Poole might be missing Ward and one/both? of the Poles, but unless the Eastie fixture is moved, there will be some sort of issue to be overcome!!
  12. ...and whatever is finally announced has to be 100% correct (and not subject to change)!!!
  13. The signing of Taylor Poole is subject to him getting a visa!! Interesting to see how the authorities deal with this one compared to other Aussies rg Doyle etc!?
  14. How close are the Sheffield pits to the bar??!
  15. FFS!!! Whats not to understand??! The BSPA are finalising the new deal with a League Sponsor and will announce that deal - along with the TV coverage arrangement at the appropriate time. I also think you'll find that all/any riders likely to benefit from their sponsors logos being on TV, will be fully aware of what the situation is - in the same way that promoters are with club sponsors!! For example, I've already seen a 'draft advertisement' promoting the coming speedway season, which is scheduled to appear in the Spring edition of a quarterly magazine!!
  16. As said before, surely the BSPA are awaiting confirmation of any League(s) sponsorship before announcing that AND the new TV coverage deal! I really can't see any major publicity advantage to Sky (or whoever?) for them to make any announcement until nearer the start of the televised meetings!! (Sky publicity promos - 'Hey everyone, we're not sponsoring Speedway any more, it won't be called the Sky Sports Elite League any longer----------but we will be televising some meetings through the season'!!).
  17. FIM Speedway 'Commissioner' Armando Castagna, stated over a year ago that a European (World?) League was one of his priorities!! Initially the Poles were the main ones seemingly against it, but based upon the latest news it sounds like they are back on board - just as the British Elite League gets a full programme of fixtures, with fewer spare dates! In the situation of riders racing in more than one country, the question of which team is given precedence was to be solved by a priority of 1) Rider Nationality; 2) whichever club the rider has been riding for/contracted to/an asset of. the longest. So for example, a club such as Poole would have first call on riders such as Holder and Ward.
  18. I clarified my comments in #721 - and have been proved correct this morning!
  19. I was referring to #710 and #711 and the fact that Poole still have 7.50 left, so they might sign Morris!! Don't think so. Expect something official to clarify within 24 hours, maybe even sooner?!
  20. There are a few Speedway Riders who have 'picked my pocket' over the years!!!
  21. Not for much longer - the 'politics' has been sorted!!
  22. Aussie Team manager Mark Lemon has tweeted' more doom and gloom on the visa issue' today!!! I wonder who that affects now??!
