Poole Pirates Vs Coventry Bees 20/7/16 Elite B
SteveLyric2 replied to Shaleshifter's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Yep, the further the better!! -
This happened as Bjarne was going back to the pits after the Kerr crash (with which he was not involved). One of Kerr's mechanics had a go at Bjarne, mistakingly thinking it was Paul Starke, I believe!! Reportedly Jon Cook also shouted some obscenities but things were calmed down when Tatum stepped in, got the actual facts, told the mechanic that his behaviour was unacceptable, and also apologised I gather.

Following more specialist physiotherapy and another x-ray, Kyle is due to have an official practice at Peterborough today. If he comes through the practice successfully then he'll be back for Poole on Wednesday - but he will not come back unless he feels 100% fit to return. -

Decimal points aside, Nilsson is declared as 2nd in the Hammers averages with Lawson 3rd so no way would AJ be allowed an r/r ride. Similarly at Poole on Wednesday Kim was not allowed an r/r ride for Eddie!! -

Its not as if Bjarne is a heat leader dropping to reserve, with Ellis taking his place in the 1-5 - he's only a reasonable 2nd string these days and clearly not scoring that consistently otherwise he wouldn't be riding at reserve.. Agree with SS, whilst Bjarne still has good gating ability, he does look slowish and sluggish compared to some of the younger racers!! This can be a problem when he's out front to begin with as it allows those behind to believe they can pass him. I think tonight will be another close one and wouldn't like to call it!! -
Another good example of longer term planning from MF. He's always thinking/planning a couple of years ahead of any other promoter!!

Poole have only had 2 rain-offs at home both of which are re-arranged. As Stated previously Poole and Leicester both agreed Monday 20th June to run their rained-off meeting - until it was realised England were playing in the Euros. MF said he would have gone ahead with a meeting despite the footie - if it had been any team other than Leicester, as he wasn't confident of a decent crowd!! Its the away meetings - 3 of them - that have yet to be sorted - but that's upto the home clubs to sort out dates before the September 16th cut-off date!!

Any confusion or discussion about the validity of a facility or not was partly due to the change of fixture dates. The fixture was originally scheduled for Weds 13th July - Poole's usual racenight. It was then switched to Monday 11th as it was one of Sky's potential meetings for live coverage. Both teams were agreeable to the switch. This meant that Ellis could then take his place in the big grasstrack meeting in France (in which one of his big sponsors was heavily involved). There was also no Danish League programme on 13th as was originally a possibility, so when Sky decided not to feature this meeting on Monday it reverted back to its original date of 13th. When the fixture was switched back to its original Weds 13th date, Ellis had by then contracted to the Marmande meeting. It was on this premise ie the change of dates, that MF requested a guest facility and included Wright as the EDR. This was the submitted team to the SCB on Sunday. The SCB made no immediate refusal. Lakeside eventually complained and the SCB referee took their side on the day. As I've said no complaint from me over the decision just the timing of it which stopped Poole from fielding 7 riders including a PL 6pointer.
-
As a Poole regular, I fully support the rule that there should have been no facilty (which in the EL actually means a PL 6 pointer or NL rider) for Ellis' absence - infact this was questioned on the Poole forum on Sunday!! What I don't understand is why, after much discussion apparantly, Poole's inclusion of Wright was initially not objected to by SCB when the proposed team was submitted on Sunday and was not advised to Poole until Wednesday - by which time it was too late to get a replacement. As I say no dispute with the decision just the timing of it!! When I arrived at the track at around 6.40pm, I was told that AJ 'was still stuck on the M.23'!! and that Lakeside had 'dug their heels in' about the use of Wright, even though he was in the pits and set-up ready to race! Not that it mattered much with the overall result and great to see Wrighty helping out Brady and Starkey in the Poole pits all evening!! Just a bit surprised that Mr Tatum didn't object to Wrighty even being in the pits??!!!! ;-) As SS says above the track was very smooth (again) but quite slick and very dusty especially on the 1st/2nd bends - in fact I'm surprised it didn't suit the Lakeside boys better. I do dispute the 'poor meeting' description though as there was some great passing in particular from Brady, Buzz(eventually) and Rider of the Night - Paul Starke. Incidentally Kyle Newman was the recipient of a cheque for £300 from Poole's Rider Equipment Fund to assist him whilst not racing. He is included in Poole's team for Coventry on Friday 'if declared fit'.

Woryna missing and Newman declared (if fit?!) -
Poole today complete the 'not entirely unsurprising' full signing of Jack Holder from Plymouth with a view to 2017 (subject to any AGM rule changes). He may get some EL experience this season in a loan, doubling-up deal?!

Fair comment - probably someone like Neilsen or Wilkinson or a PL rider -
Riders wouldn't be 'twiddling their thumbs' as you put it. They would agree to a prearranged number (and dates?) of meetings. Quite a few of the top riders NOT currently riding in the EL only want a limited number of EL meetings - ideally on set race nights. Those GP riders understandably would want to avoid EL fixtures that interfere with their GP arrangements, but there are more than just a few non-GP riders - some of whom I listed earlier - who would still consider say 10-12 meetings in the EL. Obviously, there may be some difference in abilities between the 'top' riders (eg. Hancock vs THJ; NKI vs Bech) but that would be down to each promoter to select the right mix of squad!!
-
Dave Watt is just waiting for his chance!!! ;-) ;-) :-)
-
The MF proposals (still not seen anyone else's except a couple of comments from Chairman Buster about a 6-man racing format) are about a squad system providing more meetings and allowing some of those GP and non-GP riders not currently in the EL the opportunity to do a predetermined number of EL fixtures on one or two fixed days per week. Lindback is quoted in an interview from Saturday that 'he hoped something can be sorted out for him to return to EL'. The same applies to the likes of Magic, Kildermand, Hancock, P.Pawlicki even Pedersen. Amongst the non-GP riders there are the likes of Madsen, Vaculik, Smolinski, Shamek Pawlicki and Sayfutdinov again. If the right financial and logistical details can be sorted out, some riders may well consider dropping one of their foreign leagues where often they are initally attracted by big-money contracts which are not fulfilled or they are not selected for meetings so don't earn!! All is not that rosy in the foreign leagues, so there is a real opportunity for the top British League to get back some of their past kudos.
