Poole V Swindon Semi Final 1st Leg 11/9/17
SteveLyric2 replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
So weather-wise we've had bright blue skies with sunshine and a drying breeze since 9ish. Its now 10.30 and there has just been a short sharp (but heavy) shower. The weather graphics show these showers being very localised but continuing on and off through the afternoon. As many locals know, Poole has its own micro-climate so we should be ok later. It could be much colder than of late this evening which should suit the Robins as they are much more used to those cooler temperatures at Blunsdon!! lol ps. its bright and sunny again now. -
For what its worth, back in 2001/02 when Tony Rickardsson rode for Poole, he was on a basic of £180 per point. And then there were the add-ons..........!! Incidentally how many clubs have actually closed down in the recent past through losing money? rather than any other reasons eg track availability etc?

Quick question - Whats the latest news on the future of the Lakeside track/stadium?

Freesports (channel 95) on Freeview is showing Swedish speedway at 2200 hours on Wednesday 13th for 2 hours!!!

Lets just keep an eye on today's Peterborough v Worky meeting. Its not just BWD that people will be checking on - Holder and Starke will also be competing and with Cook in the Worky side anything could happen!! -
I thought the 3rd Bull was replaced and they used a substitute on a tactical double points ride?!

People who think that a club's speedway income is purely down to fan attendance, should think again. Whether the club owns its own stadium or rents, costs will differ. Local advertising and commercial income (local sponsorship) will often more than tip the balance of whether a club is financially successful or not. A promoter once told me that they 'lose money as soon as they open the turnstiles'!!!

Poole's preview ad says that gates are to open as usual at 6.30pm!! Thought it might be half an hour earlier as is usually the case for the 'big' meetings? -
I might be imagining this but wasn't there talk at the start of the season of appointing an 'independent' Chief Executive of the BSPA??

Can't see it being Weds 13th as a rain-off due to the foreign fixtures taking priority. -

No I'm Spartacus. ;-) -
The radio interview was on BBC Radio Solent (96.1 FM) on the sports report on the Julian Clegg Breakfast Show at around 0720 this morning. How do you imagine that 1-7 would work then? What averages do you have them all on? It never ceases to amaze me how vivid some fans' imaginations are!! ;-)

They had a few track inspections and delays due to the rain. Like you I got a bit bored with it (probably because I knew the results). Apparently there was Polish speedway on after it, but I'd found something else a bit more conventional to watch on the usual channels. Going back to Zagar, he was absolutely flying in those conditions - half a straight in front of all others. Wouldn't be at all surprised if someone didn't ask for his machinery to be checked?! ;-)

How Many Of Us Have Not Lost Interest?

I continue to attend, support and sponsor. I much prefer team speedway as the SGP and other competitions with the 'top' riders do not guarantee decent racing. -

A couple of good MF articles in the local press today plus an interview on BBC Radio Solent about the meeting and another signing. http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/speedway -
So Matt Ford confirms today (Echo and BBC Radio) another deal is done with terms agreed for the rider 'to switch to the south coast' for 2018! It will be the 3rd full signing of this year (after Klindt and Woryna), but as stated on the radio there are one or two minor things to sort out so 'its not the right time to make the announcement yet'!! Read into that what you will.............

I watched some of Tuesday's Swedish speedway on Freeview's FreeSport Channel 95 last night although I missed the start and didn't catch who the commentator was? Anyone else see it?
-
I like most of the BT format for speedway. The addition of Natalie and Brando have been great I do think Kelvin has improved and I also like that we only have to listen to (rather than see) Nigel Pearson!! ;-) I am thinking about starting a new Premiership Play-off Quiz thread to estimate the number of times Nigel mentions Woffinden/Woffy despite the fact he doesn't feature in the 6 play-off meetings!! :-) :-)
-
Fairly sure NKI - and other riders - will seriously consider giving Sweden a miss especially after not getting paid again!!! Then its just a question of which Premiership club will sign him?! ;-)
-
I think Jacobsen would be on 5 points according to current rules - rules which of course might be changed in the agm for 2018!!
-
On a speedway thread it must be 2 minutes!!!!
-
The dates for the promotion/relegation play offs are 9th and 11th October - according to BSPA fixture list!!
-
Sundstrom was one of the riders approached to replace KK when he got injured earlier this season. He ended up covering for KK's Polish team place and Poole went for Zengota instead!! So also on Poole's radar perhaps.

Morris will be with Swindon as long as Rosco is there. He's part of the Rossiter family.
