  1. Having spent the last 2 hours going through this whole thread (yes sad isn't it?!) and also reading the SS every week, it seems to me that the sport will never reach a true concensus for the way forward even if it managed to get views from 75% of its patrons - and by 'patrons'' I include sponsors, advertisers and fans as well as riders/mechanics/tuners etc. IMO the average fan wants to be entertained and get value for money. We must also accept that some fans (and clubs) both current and lapsed will also want what they deem to be 'top level speedway with top stars competing' whilst others will simply want regular good racing at a decent price. As life in general - and speedway in particular - is all about compromise and choices, why not try:- A 'One League' model comprising all current PL and CL clubs (plus a seperate NL as now) at around or slightly above the current Championship level, possibly split into regions; Teams comprising 5 or 6 riders only, and featuring only those riders who are based in UK for the whole season. 13 heat format, with some form of engine restriction/moderation for the bikes. Adult Admission no more than £12; with very good family ticket prices. PLUS - for those clubs/fans who have a history of and feel that they would only support a strong top league, let them form a 'Super Elite League' if they feel it would work for them. So what if it might only have a handful of clubs and fixtures, but it features a good number of 'top' riders, if it works for them at whatever admission price would need to be set, then let them do it?! Some sponsors would definitely support it! If it doesn't work then th'ey can still fall back to the 'One league' option the following season.?
  2. So will you change your tune - or even the thread title - when Swindon announce their 2 or 3 changes tomorrow?
  3. But its a special commemorative meeting for Swindon on Monday - 69th anniversary of their first meeting or something?!
  4. There are enough riders around on up to 6.10 if DB is to be replaced.
  5. Then why include Poole in the title of the thread? If anyone wants to make a general point about the number of changes that could/should be made then put it under general discussion.
  6. Surely its what any team s;port is about - if riders are out of form or not producing the goods you change them within whatever window of opportunity exists, with another who you hope will improve the team's performance. Speedway is only complicated by having averages!! If you have a striker in football or a good run-maker in cricket who isn't scoring then you replace them - either temporarily in the hope they can reclaim their form - or permanently.
  7. Could have given 'em a rake and got them to do something useful!!
  8. Swindon have 2 x 8+ point riders and a team total of 43.04, so who and how would you suggest?!
  9. Great initiative which is so obvious I'm surprised all clubs don't do it?!
  10. Maybe because thats the story they wanted to tell their supporters, making out it was not their own fault?!
  11. Teriffic article in the Swindon section by Terry Russell in this week's Speedway Star, bemoaning the fact that Speedway's 'second division' are allowed to call the shots over the top league. He cites the case of 3 of his riders for whom Swindon pay all the costs also being used by Lakeside who pay nothing other than points money yet get priority of those riders when there is a (potential) fixture clash. I couldn't agree more.
  12. No point in scoring big points if you're not getting paid is it?!
  13. Is that the same Chris Harris that wasn't allowed to sign for the Somerset Rebels? As they say: it's not what you know - but who you know! ..or just a case of being able to do simple arithmetic!!
  14. The rules clearly state August 12th cut-off, with any changes effective on 15th August. (Incidentally thats more or less exactly 28 days for MF to consider bringing Sundstrom - or any other rider that fits - back for Worrall if scores don't improve.)
  15. Its quite simple as to why Somerset couldn't sign Harris to replace Vissing, because it would have put them over the 42.50 points limit (just!). Didn't need a BSPA guru to step in - just someone who could do simple arithmetic!!
  16. Hans said in the interview that 'he took one for the team' when agreeing to take gate 4!
  17. Sweden works??!! Despite not having 5 weeks of invoices being paid!! " Monday night is speedway night. Everyone knows its on a Monday night." Well it might be in Wolverhampton and very occasionally at Poole but hardly anywhere else.
  18. I'm sure there are contractual obligations to show every PL track at least once!!
  19. So with Wolves Peter Adams suggesting the BSPA are considering adjusting not only the Rye House rider averages (despite Summers already moving to Somerset on his July average), but also looking at adjusting all teams averages according to their scores v Rye. Good luck with that - if it happens??!
  20. I think Leicester should be charged with theft, nicking Poole's blue groove like they have and then allowing it to spawn a second one!!
  21. He's carried on in his last 2 CL meetings - paid 27 points as a heat leader!!
