Oxford Cheetahs 2022
SteveLyric2 replied to old bob at herne bay's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
The new Oxford Stadium owner (The greyhound chap) clearly stated in his interviews, press release and Oxford Mail article when he took over that 'Friday night would again become Speedway night'! OK that was probably before he fully appreciated all the 'politics' of British Speedway such as the race night 'pecking order' amongst other things!! -
Serious question - as someone who has been directly involved in a venue hosting a major convention with high security, will the extra COP26 attendees and Police and security services have any impact on access to the Ashfield Stadium area? (I'm not overly familiar with the city other than the area immediately around the SSE Arena.) I would imagine there will be an additional security presence at the airport and any other travel hub, with at the very least Police asking people to 'move along' ?

not sure!

Newcastle Diamonds 2021
SteveLyric2 replied to StevePark's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
That was the original stated intention - but I'm hearing it may be held over til 2023 due to this 'truncated' season. -
Anders Rowe may look for a home track closer to home - he will be a steal on his average when fully fit!
-
Exactly! At least for another season......! ps. I wonder if the 2 'agreed deals' for 2022 are both the Cook brothers, as judging by what riders were saying after Wednesday night its highly unlikely Basso will be back next year? However Matt Ford is pretty damn good at recognising and introducing new talent to Poole, so watch this space...........!!
-
I gather Dan Bewley is being 'advised' by Woffy, so don't expect him to ride UK next year!!! Hopefully he (and any other riders choosing Sweden) will actually get paid what they are contracted for?!
-
Maybe there will be a new speedway dynasty starting near to Limoges at some point in the future?! Maybe the 'Briance' dynasty?
-
Ah ok. Well he won't be riding for them will he?
-
Thats true, but unfortunately only at 'standard' rates!!
-
Wolves?? Isn't he a Wolves asset?
-
After this season Danny Ford clearly prefers to continue in the Championship in 2022 in order to defend all the 2021 silverware!!!! Poole have got some excellent sponsors - plus some others in the pipeline for 2022 - so even without a 'Main' sponsor but with some good consistent attendances from July onwards, another season at Championship level is very much the preferred option - at the moment - with 2 rider deals agreed already at Championship rates!
-
Poole can always choose to race on a different day of the week when there are clashes with Basso's Danish fixtures. The chance to watch Basso would surely negate any reduction in attendance due to racing on an off-night?!
-
We rode Wednesdays this season!

The Echo article says we are staying in the second tier for 2022. A lot also depends on whether the Rising Star scheme continues with 2 per team and what the points limit is. Clearly the promoters already have a good idea of what is going be rubber stamped at the agm hence signings being agreed at several clubs already.
-
Both Cook brothers and/or another Aussie?! The Echo article does state Championship racing in 2022.

Leicester Lions 2022 Line up
SteveLyric2 replied to FishersGate's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Swindon have already announced and confirmed they will not be running in 2022. Any decision from Poole will be a financial one having lost big money in 2019 due to poor attendances on 'off' race nights ie Thursdays (despite finishing top of the Premiership) and the loss and let-down of their main sponsor mid-season costing them in excess of £20k. I cannot see any 'carrot' big enough in the BSPL finances to attract them back after just one truncated Championship season - unless Eurosport have decided to increase their funding and are desperate to broadcast from somewhere other than NSS, Monmore or anywhere north of Watford!!!!!!???
