Plymouth Gladiators 2022
SteveLyric2 replied to jbell1995's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Just a thought but why would Eddie Kennett go to a club that still has connections with the Promoter who hasn't paid riders yet!!!??? -
I don't think that'll be too far off! Although don't forget Poole's strong Aussie contacts, so we may all be seeing a new face!!
-
It depends what they finally decide at the AGM re. Rising Stars and points limits?! I know what has been discussed but there is still the issue of how many teams will be running - and in which league?! I think there could be a new young Aussie (although 2022 may be too soon?) to go with the Cook Brothers. Following the article in Speedway Star I can't see Basso being allowed back as Denmark are planning a full Danish league fixture list in 2022 rather than the shortened version this season. Despite how much Basso has been a revelation and has clearly enjoyed himself over here, he won't want or be allowed to p!$$ off his Danish Federation. Poole's finishing team average totals around 41.60 (thats excluding Danyon Hume) so even with the 2.5% discount for British riders to be taken into account there will need to be some changes!

Well 3 (possibly 4) ain't bad!!
-
So what are the 'big announcements' to be made at the bears end of season do this evening? Any 'in the know' suggestions?
-
I still don't know why Scottish & Southern Energy couldn't have been approached to sponsor the 2021Play-Off Final (and the KO Cup Final). Just to agree to put their name to it for just a token amount of cash (or even no money at all) would have raised the profile somewhat - and who knows may have even led to something else!
-
Weather forecast is dry, sunny during the day but cold! The Stadium restaurant has not been open for meals although all the snack bars are open so you could risk a burger and chips or similar and take it upstairs to the restaurant area which is open for viewing! The Champs bar (underneath the main grandstand) has reopened after flooding and is fully refurbished The post-match press conferences and celebrations etc are held there too. Incidentally I hope I'm not tempting fate but Poole are unbeaten at home this season only failing to hit 50+ points on 2 occasions against Edinburgh and Leicester - both of whom Poole beat on their own tracks so only doing the bare minimum at home to get a decent result!!
-
I believe it was scheduled for November 12/13/14 but may have been put back a week after the season's extension.
-
....and some don't even get paid!!!!
-
Keeping busy on the bike is one thing but travelling back and forth with sometimes complicated travel plans is a different story - not withstanding any extra costs of having extra equipment/mechanics etc in every country
-
Well Chris Louis has been with Matt Ford at his French Chateau so read into that whatever you want!
-
Agree. A more interesting example might be if Chris Holder was to return. His last Premiership CMA is 7.16 from when he 'left' Kings Lynn in 2017!! I wonder what reduction/conversion he would get if returning to a Championship side in 2022?

They don't make more money per se at Poole - its just easier with so little staff cost to open the carpark which is mainly used by Poole Hospital staff and town centre office workers and also to use the Champs venue as a daytime nursery!, The Council lease stipulates that Stadia UK/Gaming International should provide a minimum of 2 sports or Leisure activities. Many would argue that they are not even attempting to do this in order to pressure the Council to accept that the stadium is unviable!! Hence why the leaseholders are attempting to increase the speedway rent by a non-negotiated hefty double-figure percentage despite the 3% annual increase being the accepted rent every year since Matt Ford took over in 1999. Even if GI do have long term ideas to develop the site, there are currently no plans submitted and even if there were they would take several years to reach fruition, as there would be protests and objections galore. Rest assured Matt Ford will not let the matter rest and has very strong support from a whole range of local businesses including Solicitors, Property Developers and Marketing experts (all of whom are also sponsors at Poole) - plus there is public video evidence of the Council Leader and Tourism Councillor from their regular 'live Q&A sessions' stating that they support Speedway continuing in the town on the existing site! -

The headline clearly says "Silver retiring from the sport"! -
Until the agm confirms it for 2022 its difficult to calculate precisely. The conversion from Prem to Champ was x1.5 and due to increase to 1.6 for 2021 but was suspended due to Covid delays. The original plan was to increase the converter eventually to x2.0 over a few seasons, but as we know plans can change.. As always the BSPL Directors reserve the right to adjust a rider's average if he's been out of British speedway for a few seasons!!
