Heard that a few weeks ago hope we don't sign pedersen. Don't think he's got the hunger that he had a few years ago mainly thro been in his 40 s. I know Greg Hancock s in his 40s but not had the amount of injuries nick I has had.Cant see him been a top number 1. If we do sign him I hope he proves me wrong.

You can't compare football to speedway. When Sheffield Wednesday were in the play off final we took 42,000 to Wembley and could have sold more but were refused more tickets on safety grounds.Everywhere Wednesday and United go they sell out their allocation whether it's 2000 or 6000 to normal away grounds. Some teams come to Hillsboro and bring 100 !!!!!! Football is way bigger than speedway .Our support at Sheffield could be better but as I've said in other threads speedway in Sheffield is competing with 2 football teams ,ice hockey, basketball, rugby, netball, non league football teams and that's without the night life in the city centre.Places like Scunthorpe Kings Lynn Poole have not got the same local competition when they are competing for people to spend their leisure time and money.I am fortunate that I can afford to go to both but there are loads who can only support one sport .If we can get 2000 -2500 next season our promotors would be over the moon.In reality 1500-2000 would be my guess and that's with a good team to support.Speedways days are numbered because of stupid rule changes ,poor track prep and drawn out meetings.

Great news . Hopefully we can be competitive ..I would like to see Brady Kurtz Josh G Ryan Doulas Jake Allen Possibly Martin Vaculic plus 2 more depending on averages.
-
The big gamble didn't pay off. Drew at reserve until new average kicked in and once he was in top five struggled.Ty and Kyle didn't get any consistency ,Zaine struggled big time away,Broc improved late in the season . Too many passengers. Then lack of fixtures meant no continuity,Sunday racing and a poor track all of which played its part in a non event season. We need racing every week weather permitting ,start with league matches then have the cups at the end of the season. So all in all a totally wasted season .Lets hope the promoters can stop tinkering for the sake of it and give us a reasonable points limit to work with instead of the diluted product they sold us this year.
-
I would like to see Jake Allen ride for us he can ride most tracks consistently .Hes been at Scunthorpe for a while and might fancy a change of scenery. He would be good for our other Aussies and he gets on well with our promoters.Ryan Douglas would be another I'd like but I think he may be back at Scunthorpe .
-
Yes I appreciate that. But we can't afford to have a long tail again next season as proved this season you don't win owt.Entertaiment from Zaine at home has been top drawer, his style and guts he has shown have been a highlight in a poor season.I was at Birmingham for Josh's debut and was impressed with him especially as he got wiped out by the out of control Stoneman, then showed total commitment for rest of the meeting .Broc was just hitting form before he got wiped out by Bates, and has got back to form since the injury. So if we keep these 3 we must get a decent top 4 to carry any indifferent performances. All 3 are worth keeping dependent on the other 4 to be added.End of the day it's a numbers game.
-
Nicol has got to be retained. If we are to keep Zaine and josh they have got to improve vastly away especially Zaine.Around Sheffield he's top rider but struggles big time on smaller tracks. I think he need to find a small track in Aussie this winter and work really hard on tight turns. All 3 riders have potential but need to be more consistent.

If we have speedway next season it will be Wednesday in championship or Thursday if we sell and go premier league I would expect.

Monarchs v (Real) Tigers Fri 13th

I'm not having a go at Scott Smith etc that was then this is now.Getting 60 points at Home gets you 3 points 30 points away gets zero.To get points away you need at least 42 points to get a bonus so riders like I mentioned would not help you win the league obviously.A top number one and at least one good reserve with riders in the middle who can gate or are good from the back. You need the right mix.One trick ponies are no good. -

Looking at the scorers it should stand out to any future Sheffield promotion that you must have riders who can ride any tracks.Nobody in the team has been consistent all season. Its no good having an exciting team on paper when they can't gate and can't pass on smaller tracks.Weve had enough Scott Smiths Richard Hall and James Birkinshaws in the past.Whoever takes over needs a good balance of gaters and riders who can pass. Our away form has been really poor for the last 2 seasons. We have got to make Broc first name on the team sheet next year he seems to be able to gate and overtake on all size tracks ,I think on his average he can only get better now he's seen most tracks. -

Hope our tigers are up for this one ,we are desperate for a big win to keep season alive.I was also wondering how fit wethers is going to be.Hope he's not going to pull out after one ride and drop us in it. Good luck to the Tigers . -
Decent meeting. Jorgensen cost Newcastle victory but saying that we were on a 5-1 when Phillips decked it and then the inevitable ,the man at the back pops out in the rerun and wins !, We need some gaters in the team desperately next season we can't win titles with just exciting racers.Todd had an off night but depending on the team building averages next season could get a spot. I would love Jake Allen in the team he's one of my favourite riders and can ride any track Broc has to come back on his average.I think Kyle needs a change of scenery he's gone a bit stale last 2 seasons though he's still a good rider .I would keep Josh too he attacks the tracks away from home, just wish Zaine could score away as he's awesome to watch round Sheffield ,the race with Lasse and Jorgensen was brilliant.Good luck to the lads at the weekend it would be good to extend season.

Exactly. It's speedway not TT racing.Deal with it.Some riders attitude is a joke.It was the same with Schlein the other week.If you can't handle the track do a different sport. They don't realise they are killing the sport and soon they will have to get a proper job.Track prep, rider attitude, drawn out meetings, the b s p a need to smell the coffee.Look at attendances ,dropping all around the country. All they do is tinker with the rules and drop points limit. After 58 years of watching Sheffield speedway my patience is wearing thin.

Sheffield v. Newcastle 28.08.19
Charlieboy replied to Cue Ball's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Looks like end of October then !!!!! Would a better idea be when the original fixtures come out teams who ride on same day race home and away early season to allow plenty of time for any rain offs to lessen the chance of fixtures not getting fulfilled. 10 home and 10 away to race ,it's now September and struggling to fit it in.??? -
Sheffield v. Newcastle 28.08.19
Charlieboy replied to Cue Ball's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
If Newcastle can't agree on a Wednesday night because of rider availability why don't they Change a Sunday meeting to their off race night and come to Sheffield on a Sunday ? Or is that too simple ?Like working together to get the fixture on .No wonder speedway is a joke !!!, -
It's another nail in the speedway coffin .Its the same every week and just winds people up.Apparently yesterday's hold ups where down to mr Cook who allegedly went round the other riders trying to get the meeting stopped because of track conditions. The same mr Cook who had a bad day with his machinery and hardly ever breaks down in other meetings.Very odd.I feel sorry for all the Glasgow fans who turned up to support him and paid to watch him.

It's not just an away win we need its a 4 pointer we need to keep play offs alive . Can't see it happening but you never know.We need to get off to a good start too.Good luck Tigers -
I've not seen many good meetings either, some good races though as you would expect with the riders we've got but only when the track was conducive to good racing .

From a selfish point of view that's a good call so I don't miss the meeting.Off to watch Wednesday at Rotherham -
Is anybody really bothered if Bates have sent Drew to Leicester ? Speedway is no longer a sport to be taken seriously with the Mickey mouse rules.Crowds are dropping off ,a lot of races are strung out ,track preparation, riders having a strop, meetings drawn out ,lack of fixtures season finishing earl again etc.If the Bates have got Drew fixed up then great, the lad doesn't miss out on meetings/earnings and joins a team that could win the league.Win win situation .
-
I think the problem Drew has had is the team balance from day one. The sheffield promotion put together an exciting team that didn't improve as it should.Drew was expected to switch into the top 5 then drop to reserve when the averages changed. This didn't happen because the reserves struggled to out point Drew.He also seemed to lack speed round sheffield where you need fast engines.I heard a rumour that he was offered an engine off Steady but his sponsor refused the help !!!! Don't know if that's true but if it was then that don't help if your rider is struggling.Drew will get over it and he's not the first or last rider to be dropped. He has loads of talent and will soon get a team place in my opinion. The Sheffield promotion have done what they think is best and not gone down the route of over paying riders to win the league and not been able to come to the tapes the following season. They have obviously done it within their budget and possibly the visa issue with Broc has swung their decision.Good luck to Drew for the rest if the season.
-
Depending on the numbers possibly need a couple of heat leaders of the Rasmus Jensen standard who can ride most tracks and come in on a 7 ish average obviously depending on the points limit that may get slashed to reduce costs again.Hope it's 2 home 2away as well because I've lost interest this season with the stop start fixtures.
-
Totally agree I was going to post very similar.I feel sorry for Drew as he's only a young lad but not our asset so I can see the management idea even though with the numbers available we can't drop Zaine..Broc and Drew at Eastbourne and edinboro would have made us strong at reserve on paper.Apparently Broc rode in the states last week so at least he's had a spin.Dont see why people want Josh dropping he's improved since we signed him and scored points on tracks he's never seen.On his debut meeting he would have scored more had it not been for the stupid Stoneman T boning him and wrecking his bike after less than a lap.I think he could be one for the future and would be one of the first names in the team next season.
