Leaving aside the fact I'm possibly talking to myself here, there are a couple more issues that require attention: Ipswich: Speedway Star published results intimate that Kevin Teager rode in all 17 of the wee Witches matches. The yearbook states that he only rode in 16 meetings. Kevin failed to score in only 3 of these matches - at Cradley on 15th April, at Mildenhall on 25th June and in the return fixture at Ipswich on 14th September. All other Ipswich stats appear correct. His appearance at Mildenhall has now been confirmed. I need to confirm he rode in the other two matches. Leicester: Speedway Star intimates Andy Lowe rode in 4 matches and Brett Allen in 3 but the yearbook awards Lowe 5 and Allen 2. I have confirmed one of Allen's appearances at Boston on 4th June (thanks to Barrycuda) and now need to ascertain that he rode at home to Mildenhall on 23rd May and at Cradley on the 27th May. Two of Lowe's appearances are now confirmed, outstanding fixtures are at Hackney on 16th June and at home v Ipswich on 11th August.

A shameless bump back up the order for this one. Only 4 dates to confirm, all at Ipswich, plus the three outstanding results queries if anyone can oblige.

Following an evenings internet sleuthing I believe this rider to be Geoff Wiltshire who rode out of Weymouth. Better known in grasstrack circles, still riding as recently as 2012, the one confirmed speedway reference is as one of the meeting reserves in a 1982 WCQR at Weymouth. Unless I hear different, Geoff's the man.

Aye that crossed my mind. I'll keep digging see what pops up. Iris123, thanks for those details. Cheeky use of Hilton as a TS in heat 11 when Dons were only 5 points down!
-
Thank you both. I can't find any reference to the mystery Wiltshire, he certainly didn't appear in the BJL that season. Anyone recall this junior riders' name?
-
Thanking you. Could you possibly list the heat times if marked? And can you tell me what order the teams rode in (I have it as Read v Wey v Swin v Exeter, I think from the programme cover) and what numbering system they used (was each team #1-5 or was it the 1-4. 5-8 and reserves at 17-20 version?).

Thanks to the continued efforts of Tony Lethbridge I'm a tad closer to resolving the Junior KOC conundrums. I now know that the 1st Round, 2nd Leg match between Exeter and Poole was staged on 14th July. Exeter won 43-35. The 1st leg result is shown as Poole winning 41-37 but no date. Falcon Hammer, can you have a look at the Poole programme you have dated for 20th June? Poole staged the Gala Night individual that evening and I find it unlikely that it was a double-header, even more unlikely that they issued 2 programmes. Does the programme offer up any clues?

An unashamed bump back up the order for this one before it becomes completely buried. The list has been whittled down over the past couple of weeks but still plenty to resolve. Updated list here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gytjp02lzpj15kq/1978REQD_number8s%26reserves.pdf?dl=0

Who designed Egon's set, Willy Wonka or Pee-wee Herman? Here's another one, this time from Holland no less. https://www.dropbox.com/s/rwxsv5j4y5uuw6b/Canyon%20Drive%20Band%20-%20Speedway.mp3?dl=0

I must say I've never heard of gramophone recordings of speedway though familiar with the cassettes of the seventies and eighties. I always thought buying a commentary to relive the action was akin to voting for 'Goal of the Season' on the radio. Strangely I was recently clearing out old CD-roms and discovered an assortment of speedway related songs in a folder. Reg Luckhurst was amongst them along with a couple of other familiar names and seeing this thread I thought it might be interesting (and I use that word advisedly) to hear some of these leviathons of pop one more time. No requests please, I'll upload them as I have the time and I will not be responsible for any aural trauma sustained by repeated listening. If any of the contributors are embarassed by any of the offerings I post, well tough, you should have thought about that before you booked the studio So, ladies and gentlemen, will you please welcome to the stage one more time Rockin' Reg Luckhurst... https://www.dropbox.com/s/wau0bndn57vnq9y/Reg%20Luckhurst%20-%20Your%20Cheatin%27%20Heart.mp3?dl=0 Download and play on your favoured media player. If you don't want to sign up to Dropbox click the 'no thanks, continue to download' link on the pop-up screen and all should be well.

Leave it with me, will get it done asap.

I can cover the 1977 ones from the yearbook - will that suffice?

Some dates of meetings and results from Cardiff taken from Barry Stephenson's spreadsheets. I'm not sure how complete the list of meetings is but I do note the result of the 27/04/29 meeting isn't known so if the programme is filled in please reveal all! https://www.dropbox.com/s/z20u6ajglkl23dz/CardiffWhiteCity.pdf?dl=0 Speedway Researcher has the results of one meeting in 1937. Unfortunately the date is only given as Saturday 24th which could be April or July. The spreadsheets show scratch races being held on the July date but no results. Researcher shows a match between The Provinces and Hackney Wick, followed by scratch races. I think it's the same meeting but have still to confirm that. http://www.speedwayresearcher.org.uk/docs/cardiff/1937.pdf

11th May 1993 at Arena-Essex. An individual event won by Leigh Adams. Can't do heat details though, sorry.

Check your email for the file. Always like to save Steve a bit of work if I can

27th March for the League Cup, Aces winning 43-35 - is that it?
-
Can you clarify that 1982 date? Belle Vue v Hackney 87 was rained off.

Give us a wave and I'll watch out for you. The programme, which contained quite possibly the worst attempt at a racecard in the history of the sport, states 'FIM officials in attendance' so it looks like it was sanctioned. The 1983 WTC qualifier saw the meeting start and finish at the tapes with no extension. Rob McCaffrey says in commentary that he believed that the extra bit of track was to conform with the FIM minimum track length but points out that 4 laps around Plough Lane is 1234yds, which equals the FIM minimum length. The referee's box was shifted in line with the tapes. I'm sure there was a FIM stipulation that the start/finish line had to be one and the same.

Superb stuff, many thanks.

More invisibles: 25/03 Halifax v Sheffield - abandoned after heat 1. I have the line-ups from a blank programme, require confirmation. Result of the staged heat required. 16/04 Boston WC Qual Rnd - S Star & Ybook report Ron Cooper at reserve and Andy Fisher in the 1-16 at #4. Fisher rides in heat 5 so must be a reserve. Confirm line-up and missing number 4 (Brian Havelock?) 23/06 Hackney Radio London Champ - Rider #11 appears absent, covered by reserves. Who was he? 16/07 Boston Lincolnshire Trophy - Full heat details required, not published. 06/09 Mildenhall AJL Riders Champ - abandoned after heat 4. Have line-up from blank programme, requires confirmation. Results from the 4 staged heats also required. 09/09 Halifax v Exeter - abandoned after 2 heats, have heat details but require both line-ups.

The 1979 yearbook covers the results but not the dates of matches for this competition. I've confirmed dates for 86 of 90 fixtures but require the following matches confirmed if anyone can oblige: Ipswich v Cradley 29/06, Boston 06/07, Leicester 26/08 & Mildenhall 14/09 There are also some scoring discrepancies that require confirmation: 21/04 Hackney v Mildenhall. Reported in S Star as Hack 6 Mild 9. Mildenhall programme 30/04 reports H 6 M 12. Difference appears to be with Graham Steward, reported in the Star as scoring 6, but in the programme scoring a 9-point maximum. Illegal 3rd ride perhaps? As an added twist Hackney's race points against in the yearbook seem to be leaning towards the 6-12 result BUT the Mildenhall race points for favour the 6-9 scoreline. 02/06 Hackney v Crayford. 3 options here! Star and Yearbook report Hack 3 Cray 13. Crayford programme reports H 3 C 14. A marked programme reports H 4 C 13. Prog reports heat scores as 1-5, 0-5 & 3-3. 02/07 Rye House v K Lynn. Star reports RH 11 KL 5. The excellent stats in KL prog 19/07 report RH 11 KL 6. Difference is Kevin Cox, reported as 1 point in Star but 2 in KL prog. Prog indicates his 2 points came in a heat 1 3-2, a result that kills any chance of him only scoring 1 point. RESOLVED If you can clear up any of the above please let me know, thanks.

Many thanks. I don't need the Reading/Swindon sides thanks. Speedway Star reports a crowd of 4000!

Splendid, many thanks.
