I have a marked programme that has Colin Gooddy in heat 6 and Danny Kennedy in heat 7 both being excluded for tapes infringements. Neither of these exclusions are reported in the Star, Mail or Yearbook so I find it strange that they are included in this programme. Can anyone confirm each heat result?

Bob Coles took a spectacular purler in heat 2 of the BL match with Wimbledon on 5th May 1978. See here at 1:06 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrwVlFEmvKA Speedway Star reported it as fell, excluded. However the Mail reports fell, non-starter and the yearbook awards Coles 0-0-0. I must say it looks like a stonewall FX to me but can anyone recall just what the referee's decision was? Coles sustained fractured ribs in the crash but was soon back in action.

I ran figures for abandonments a while ago but I can't remember if I posted the results. Figures run from 1967 to date covering 1st and 2nd division matches only. They also include postponements. https://www.dropbox.com/s/zzge8z99asq1225/Abandonments.pdf?dl=0

Tai Should Never Ride For Team Gb Again
daveallan81 replied to robert72's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
He has a hobby. Unfortunately it still leaves one hand free to type... -
I tried again but same message. I'll just list them here and you can take a look when you return from holiday. Obviously I don't know how you've compiled your figures but I've used the referee's scorecards from the SCB website and match reports from the SGB site and on here. With the exception of Alex Wilson, each difference coincides with a slightly dodgy ref's card. That being said, I am aware that the discrepancies could be from other matches but I think these below are worth a double-check to see if you concur. Coventry - Craig Hancock I have 6 rides to your 5. Possible target: 25/5 Coventry v Peterborough. Referee's scorecard has no result entered for Hancock in heat 5. SGB site reports FX, a result I've confirmed from another source. Hancock should score 2+1 from 3. Coventry - Kyle Roberts I have 32 rides to your 31. Possible target: 21/8 Coventry v Milton Keynes. Ref's card has Roberts replacing Parker in heat 6, but there is no score entered. SGB site reports RET, again confirmed from an external source. Roberts should score 3+0 from 4. Peterborough - Daniel Hunt I have 3 rides to your 5. Possible target: 10/7 Scunthorpe v Peterborough Ref's card records 'E' for Hunt in heats 4 and 5. While I would take this on first sight as 2 tapes exclusions, the SGB site reports Hunt NS in both in the heat details, and 'M' in the scorechart. Hunt should score 1+0 from 1. Peterborough - Alex Wilson I have 23 rides to your 24. Possible targets: 1/8 Long Eaton v Peterborough & 9/8 Peterborough v Wolverhampton 1/8 Wilson should score 6+1 from 3. 9/8 Wilson should score 6+0 from 2. There are no obvious mistakes in either ref's card but for the Long Eaton match Wilson and Hunter swap places so Wilson's score reads 2 - 2' - RS - 2 which I initially took as 4 rides. Wolverhampton - Connor Fletcher I have 29 rides to your 28. Possible target: 9/9 Wolves v Long Eaton Ref's card has no entry for him in heat 5, SGB site reports FELL. Fletcher should score 1+0 from 3. One final thing to point out in the Coventry averages. You have Hume starred as riding in the double points fixture at King's Lynn, I believe this should be Connor Dwyer with Whitehouse, Hunter and Roberts.

'Cannot receive any new messages' it's saying. One slight drawback with FB - I don't use it! I'll just list the queries on here then if that's OK but I'll need to wait till I'm back at my home desk. All points and bonus points check out, it's just the rides taken by the 5 riders that I'm wanting to look at. Enjoy your holiday!

I think your inbox is full because I can't PM you. It's regarding the averages of 5 riders from your end-of-season figures. Can you get in touch and I'll provide the gory details, thanks.

Bradford V Reading 1986/87/88/89 Matches Please Times Important.

Mdl Results & Points Scorers For 2015
daveallan81 replied to Mimmo's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
I've just spent half an hour banging my head on the desk because your riders points totals varied wildly from what I had. It was only when I started to see what I'd made a mess of that I realised that the points scored in the 2 matches raced for double league points are included in your figures, whereas I've only included them the once. They also allowed me to pick up on an error I made when copying and pasting. So you'll be pleased to know that I concur with all your figures though you may want to inform the SGB site that their league table is wrong, Wolves have a point for too many and Stoke a point against too few. -
2015 Mdl Unofficial Averages
daveallan81 replied to daveallan81's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
Please note that thanks to Mimmo's posting of riders points scored, I've discovered a wee copy and paste error in my original figures pertaining to Stoke's Connor Fletcher and Craig Osborne. The file has now been updated. -
https://www.dropbox.com/s/4efe5jzolhfptur/2015MDLAverages.pdf?dl=0 Here are my unofficial figures for the MDL, showing team-by-team stats and a full list of riders combined averages. Some interesting facts: 74 riders were used. 45 of those riders appeared for 2 or more teams. Buxton led the way in riders used, 31 in total. Wolverhampton used the fewest, a mere 17. Stephen Whitehouse and Tom Bacon both appeared for 9 teams. These figures have been compiled using primarily the official referee's scorecards. Results posted on here have also been used to correct sundry mistakes and omissions. I find it deeply disappointing that officials who are paid for their work are not able to accurately complete a basic Excel racecard. Wrong dates, wrong riders names, wrong team names, worse still no team names at all, unrecorded results - a pretty sad state of affairs.

Kings Lynn Declared Mdl Champions 2015
daveallan81 replied to Main Man's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
May I check a couple of things here: Is the King's Lynn v Long Eaton match referred to the one postponed on 29th July? Were Peterborough awarded the points for the Belle Vue rain-off on 14th September? Edit: The SGB league table doesn't seem to suggest that any points were awarded in the BV v Pete match. -
Mdl ..scunthorpe 9 Buxton 21
daveallan81 replied to Main Man's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
Can someone confirm the result of this match as 9-27? It is reported as 9-21 on the SGB site, and above, but Buxton scorers and referee's scorecard add to 27. Edit: just to add the SGB MDL table seems to take this score as 9-27. -
Glasgow's original chosen race night was in fact a Wednesday. They switched to Fridays when they re-opened at White City in 1964 and retained that through to the end of 1989. They staged just 10 further Friday meetings, 5 of which were in 1990. 18th July 1997 was the last time Glasgow ran on a Friday until last weekend. Edinburgh plumped for Saturdays from the off, a night they kept hold of until their demise at the end of the 1969 season. They went for Fridays when they re-opened at Powderhall in 1977, and apart from a flirtation with Sunday nights during 1990 they have remained with Fridays. From 1977 to 1989, when both clubs were Friday nighters, 306 of the 654 matches, representing 46.8%, were staged without any clash. 348 matches went ahead in direct opposition to each other, that's 174 matches at each track for the arithmetically challenged. From what I can tell, the last time both clubs ran on the same day was Sunday 14th July 2002, however I haven't been able to ascertain whether they ran at the same time. Glasgow raced Workington with a 6pm start and while Somerset visited Armadale the programme cover doesn't indicate a start time. If there was no clash, then that Friday 18th July 1997 date is the last time both teams ran in direct opposition as Tigers faced Newport and Monarchs squared up to Exeter. A breakdown of meetings staged by venue can be found here https://www.dropbox.com/s/bsxrrldxz7tal8t/Glas%26EdinRaceNights.pdf?dl=0 and while some of the figures from the early years may be a bit skewiff they're close enough to get the overall impression. Monarchs 1996 sojourn at Shawfield is not included in these figures and neither is Tigers aborted 1987 season. A return to Friday night racing would actually appeal to me as Sundays have long since been off the radar. However I am slightly baffled as to where the supposed groundswell of support for this has come from. The only conclusion I can reach is that the majority of Ashfield attendees have been watching the Tigers for more than a quarter of a century and fondly recall when Friday night racing was de rigueur. I sincerely hope that the promotion have indeed done their research as implied in the end-of-season letter, otherwise they are, in my opinion, taking one hell of a gamble in abandoning a raceday/night that has served Glasgow, if not me personally, well for nigh on 25 years.

Tommy Jansson Memorial, Wimbledon 1978

I thought I'd be more likely to get definitive answers in this section of the BSF than in the 'Years Gone By' forum. Two Smederna riders took part in the meeting who were reported as Gert Karlsson and Kenneth Selmonsson. Can someone confirm the correct spelling of each riders' name as I'm getting conflicting information from my internet searches? Thanks in advance. -
Pleurisy eh? Well he should have had his feet in his wellies Thanks for the info.

The Speedway Star reports Chris Morton rides at #13 and scores 10 points. 1979 Yearbook confirms this score. The match programme has Chris Morton at #12 and Dave Morton at #13. Klaus Lohmann replaces Chris and scores 5 points. Lohmann's rides coincide with being the #12 rider. The only realistic option here is for Chris to drop to #13 to replace Dave with Lohmann filling the #12 spot but that scenario seems a bit strange - why not just put Lohmann at #13? Can anyone with a marked programme confirm which Morton rode in this meeting?

Play Offs Should They Be Scrapped.?
daveallan81 replied to stratton's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I haven't followed ice hockey in years so I don't know how it's set up now, but the Wembley play-off weekend was treated by supporters in much the same way I would imagine the Cardiff GP is treated today. You went to be part of the occasion, it was an added bonus if your team happened to qualify. Perhaps those who champion the play-off system can answer me this - if they had been introduced 10 years earlier, what benefits would the sport currently be reaping? -
Dave Gifford is Berwick's number 8. Speedway Star reports him taking only one ride in heat 1. The yearbook reports him taking two rides and reflects this in the averages. Bryan Seery's statistics in the Berwick track review agree with the yearbook. I've had information from one marked programme giving Gifford just the one ride. To stop this being the only error against Berwick's published figures, Gifford would have to take the r/r ride in heat 10 and be excluded for a tapes offence, with Fullerton being his replacement. Can anyone confirm from a meeting-marked programme how many rides Gifford took?

Glasgow V Plymouth Play Off Qf

Regular readers of this part of the forum will know that I've been battling with the 1978 season for quite a while now. The final part of the operation was to cross-reference the 1979 yearbook with the published heat details. Although I was braced for a few discrepancies here and there, the volume of unmatched entries has been quite remarkable. Accordingly I have a raft of heats requiring confirmation, along with other bits and bobs like missing riders and heat times, and these have now been arranged into individual team files that can be downloaded from this link https://www.dropbox.com/sh/pjg1wbcz4ejupti/AADbM73ZKbTcpdvpUVJ4vpgya?dl=0 There is also an all-in-one file if you prefer. Any information must come from confirmed meeting-marked programmes. Of the 39 clubs only Coventry are requirement-free, so any contributions from the remaining clubs would be greatly appreciated.

Sidney, I haven't forgotten about the other request, just been a busy weekend. Steve Wilkes & Gary Done are currently working on 1977 for Speedway Researcher. I took 1978 because it was the season I was best prepared to tackle but it's turned into a bit of a nightmare. Steve & Gary will be doing 79 onwards whenever they get to them. I'm continuing to work on clearing up the 1979 yearbook, the actual season file is almost ready but every time I go to publish I receive new information that re-writes a lot (and I mean A LOT) of what the Speedway Star published. I just happen to have retained Speedway Stars from 78-84 from what was a bigger collection, hence the reason I can rarely assist outwith those years.

The meeting in question was in fact a four team tournament between Eastbourne, Belle Vue, Wimbledon and White City. It was staged Sunday 26th September 1976. If you go here http://www.speedwayresearcher.org.uk/docs/1976/results.pdf the results can be found on pages 1192 & 1193.
