Second Half Ideas.....
daveallan81 replied to heathen chemistry's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Using the current greensheets on the SGB website there are currently 187 riders occupying 231 team places across the three leagues. From averages published recently on the BSF, there are a further 40 MDL and 32 NJL riders who are not currently in any declared 1-7. -
I was directed to view this post and the one in the Backtrack area regarding this. It's a mistake on my part, probably happened in the formatting of the file. Delete Yarmouth and add London White City for Coles.
-
As far as I'm aware White City was the only track that operated in Glasgow in 1929.

Many thanks.

Does anyone know the outcome of this training school fixture?

Glasgow V Edimburgh Ko Cup Sunday 31 July 2016
daveallan81 replied to SharpenRake's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Haud the Beaton's bus here. Four Glasgow press releases relating to matches with the Monarchs infer that there is going to be, or was, some sort of confrontation. 'Battle', 'argy-bargy', 'brutal', 'punch-ups': http://www.glasgowtigers.co/richie-loves-wor-words/ http://www.glasgowtigers.co/garcia-argy-barges-monarchs-aside/ http://www.glasgowtigers.co/going-sum-battle/ http://www.glasgowtigers.co/long-arm-of-law/ The club are obviously keen to promote these events as some kind of epic West v East struggle during which supporters should expect to see confrontation both on and off the bikes. As Richard Lawson said: "You get punch-ups and all sorts at the derby. I think the fans gain from it – it’s a better atmosphere, you get more supporters there and you get boos and cheers, win or lose – so it adds a bit to it. It’s always more exciting. I do get some abuse at times but I love it – if you get booed or cheered, you’re doing something well. If you don’t get a response then you should be looking at yourself.” Far be it from me to question the promotion's sales techniques but if they're trying to boost the gate by emphasizing the volatile and confrontational nature of the fixture, then you really shouldn't be surprised, or indeed disappointed, when something of that nature occurs. If you feel that your offspring have now been scarred for life then perhaps you should have paid more attention to the hype and left them at home. After all, you were well warned. -
Speedway's Twisted Mentality...

It's early/draft artwork from a forthcoming children's book series. I can't say any more than that, except I'm neither the author nor the artist. -
Speedway's Twisted Mentality...

Postponements sit a tad under 20%, abandonments at 4.5%. That includes all 2016 meetings up to last night. -
Have you tried Imodium?
-
Resolved. Williams/Robertson/Ferguson were the winners.
-
The Speedway Star and 1968 Handbook both indicate this meeting was won by Brian Whaley & Lex Milloy. However the Berwick programme results say that Roy Williams and Ronnie Ferguson won. A very scruffy marked programme hints that Ferguson, who was one of the meeting reserves and replaced Williams' partner Colin Robertson on 3 occasions, had his score incorporated and the 3 points he scored would have propelled Williams & co ahead of Whaley and Milloy. Can anyone confirm the winners of this meeting?

Ah, so the points adjustment was made at the meeting. Thanks.

Thanks. That's the info I have from both the yearbook and the season file on Speedway Researcher. Is that where your info comes from, and if not can you tell me your source?
-
Excellent, many thanks.

Thanks. I now have that 14/01/78 Speedway Star to hand and it returns 1293-1508 for Scunthorpe? That amended scoreline is clearly the issue here, so any further light that can be shed on that would be appreciated. The Scunthorpe programme I have from 03/10/77 still carries the result as 45-33.

Can anyone confirm what fixtures made up this event? I have three fixtures confirmed: 21/03 Birmingham v Wolverhampton 25/03 Wolverhampton v Birmingham 28/03 Birmingham v Cradley Heath I'm assuming this was a mini-league competition. The three potential missing meetings are: 18/03 Wolves v Cradley (described as Challenge Trophy 1st Leg) 19/03 Cradley v Wolves (described as Challenge Trophy 2nd Leg) 26/03 Cradley v Birmingham (described as just a challenge) Were those three matches part of the competition?

The 1978 yearbook table reports: Mildenhall race points for 1383 and against 1421. It also reports Scunthorpe 1292 - 1509. The meeting results I have concur with those figures. However the BSPA archive website returns Mildenhall 1382 - 1422 and Scunthorpe 1293 - 1508. The Scunthorpe v Mildenhall match on 29/08/77 finished 45-33 on track, but after a protest this was amended to 44-34. This fact is reported in the yearbook. Can anyone provide me with race point totals from another source (Speedway Star, Mail, programmes, etc) ?

Can anyone confirm the correct name of this competition staged early season? I have 3 options so far: South Eastern Mini League, Southern Area Mini League and Southern Mini League. Competing teams were Canterbury, Eastbourne and Rayleigh. Thanks in advance.

The bonus point was introduced into the BL in 1985, and the PL in 1991, and stayed until 2008. In 42 different league campaigns there were 4 instances where the BP influenced the hypothetical '2-1-0" table: 2000 PL http://www.speedwaygb.co/history/leaguetables2000.php 2002 PL http://www.speedwaygb.co/history/leaguetables2002.php 2006 EL http://www.speedwaygb.co/history/leaguetables2006.php 2008 EL http://www.speedwaygb.co/history/leaguetables2008.php The latter two seasons were of course decided by play-offs. Since 2009 I make it that only the 2012 PL and 2014 EL would have seen the leaders change, 2 campaigns out of 14.

Och I thought this was going to be a thread about Loch Ness souvenirs... -
On a thread in the Discussions part of the forum, someone suggested that away wins in speedway rarely happen. I ran figures for this ages ago but it was a bit haphazard and lumped the top two leagues together. This time I've split them into separate files and gone into a bit more detail. The combined overall results, taken from 22719 division 1 and 2 matches, were: Home Wins: 17653 (77.70%) Away Wins: 4232 (18.63%) Drawn matches: 834 (3.67%) The file is here https://www.dropbox.com/s/fzchxf7cgohy5wl/AverageScoreAnalysis.pdf?dl=0 It is, on the surface, a stultifyingly boring heap of numbers, but when you begin to delve into the variables things pick up somewhat. For example, the National League introduced fixed gate positions in 1989, yet the figures returned are all within a point of those returned in 1988. See if you can pick out any major spikes to coincide with significant rule changes - they are there if you look hard enough - but if you stop for one moment and consider the myriad of rules and regulations that have come and gone over the years you have to ask yourself - just what real difference do any of them make?
