Andrew & cityrebel, thank you both for your help.

The Researcher file shows Dave Kennett as a guest. Perhaps Romford were going to stage the 11/10 meeting but for some reason couldn't do so. With regards to the result of heat 2 it's entirely possible Speedway Star or whoever got the Kennetts the wrong way round. Thanks again.

The information provided by members of this forum never ceases to amaze, so I'm going to add my remaining junior match related queries for 1984 to this thread. 20th May Poole v Swindon 43-35 Confirm date & result 12th June Weymouth v Swindon 48-30 or 48-28 1984 yearbook and Weymouth programme 17/07 reports result as 48-30 but SStar 23/06 returns 48-28. Confirmation required. Weymouth v Reading 32-46 1984 yearbook only gives date as June/July. So date required and confirmation of result. 17th August Poole: Southern or Wessex Junior Championship Winner Mike Semmonds Confirm meeting title & result 30th August Sheffield Junior Championship Winner Rob Fidler Confirm meeting title & result 3rd September Scunthorpe Junior Best Pairs Result required 13th September Arena Essex v Hackney v Milton Keynes v Rye House Result required 14th October Berwick Stars of Tomorrow 2nd Leg 'Winner' reported as Jackson Irving. Confirm that Irving won the meeting and the overall competition, not just the latter. 1st November Sheffield Vee Clutches Best Pairs Rained off 25/10 and rescheduled but not 100% if it actually went ahead. If it did, the winners are required.

Many thanks for following that up.

How Do We Attract A New Young Audience?
daveallan81 replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
How about over 20's go free when accompanied by an under-20 paying full admission? -
Thanks for your reply Steve. Regarding the different result, the only heat where an Eagle and a Crusader finished together was heat two, can you confirm which order the Kennett's finished in? I have Gordon 3rd, Dave 4th. Also note there were no heat times published for the meeting, was anything recorded in the programme? So it appears that this was over 3 legs only with the 13/09 result not standing and no leg at Romford.

I am working from the 1970 season file on Speedway Researcher. This 4 team tournament was between Eastbourne, Canterbury, Romford and Rayleigh and the results are shown in this order. Leg 1: 31/08 at Rayleigh: 20 v 22 v 19 v 35 Leg 2: 13/09 at Eastbourne: 12 v 09 v 14 v 07 Aband Heat 7 - rain - result stands Leg 3: 03/10 at Canterbury: 19 v 42 v 21 v 14 Leg 4: 11/10 at Eastbourne: 33 v 29 v 11 v 23 The aggregate scores are given as East 84 Can 104 Rom 65 Ray 79. The above figures indicate Canterbury scored 102. The matches all show the requisite number of total points (3 x 96 and 1 x 42) so I believe the 104 to be wrong. Into the mix comes a rained off fixture on 13/09 at Rye House, an un-titled 4TT with Eastbourne, Canterbury & Romford. Would two meetings in one day have been scheduled? Were they 'B' teams? Was it actually a Rayleigh fixture? Was it perhaps at Rye as a replacement for the missing Romford leg? Or was it simply as shown, a 4TT ran before or after the abandoned match at Eastbourne? I must add I find it strange that the abandoned match at Eastbourne was declared as a result. It's early enough in the season for a re-staging, and the teams do reconvene on 11/10 so date availability doesn't seem to be an issue. Romford don't seem short of home dates, they stage 5 challenge matches from 17/09 till 22/10, so what happened to their leg? If any track experts can nail this one down I'd appreciate it.

Reading that I'm now wondering if the first leg at Halifax went ahead as scheduled. The 'rained off' information comes from the results sheet I'm trying to update but I've not got any further proof. If it was off, it must have been restaged on the Tuesday or Wednesday 29th/30th for the 2nd leg to run on the 31st. Thanks for you help.

I'm looking for information to help complete my results for this competition. I believe I've exhausted the information from the Speedway Stars and known online sources. Round 1: Halifax v Sheffield The first attempts to run these matches on 28th May (morning at Halifax, evening at Sheffield) were thwarted by the Bank Holiday weather. All I know is that both matches were restaged shortly afterwards, the England v Denmark programme from Halifax on 10th June congratulates the Junior Dukes on their victory over two legs. I need the dates and results of both matches Round 1: Scunthorpe v Rye House Rye won the first leg at Hoddesdon on 13th May. The Speedway Star lists the return fixture for 4th June. Confirmation of that date and the result required. Round 1: Hackney v Wimbledon 23rd May at Hackney rained off. 31st May at Wimbledon saw Dons win 40-38. 6th June at Hackney was abandoned after heat 7 due to rain, and another attempt on 22nd June was also abandoned. I require the results at time of both abandonments, and at what heat and the reason for 22nd June stoppage. I suspect that Wimbledon were awarded the tie after the 2nd abandonment but confirmation of that would be helpful as well. Quarter Final: Rye House v Ipswich Rye programme has the first leg as 12th August, that's all I know except Witches won on aggregate. Dates and results of both legs required.

Kings Lynn - Stars Of Tomorrow Trophy 19 September 1965
daveallan81 replied to steve19620's topic in Years Gone By
I had Don Smith as the winner of that meeting so I knew I must have got that information from somewhere. Finally found it, check the editorial in the 25/09 programme which doesn't mention any abandonment: https://app.box.com/s/wm7cfpcwle17ebtue3q3/1/497466395 -
I worked this sort of back-to-front so I was only left with the pre-65 tracks to check for. I just matched the number of tracks with my list and came up with the same, 61 (inc. Southampton). I had Tilehurst on my list but I see now that Rochdale is included in the original - I don't have Stevens down as riding there. He rode for Romford against Rochdale in 1971 but it was staged at Hyde Road.

I can verify all but one - Southampton.

1983 Mildenhall V Peterborough & Junior Championship
daveallan81 replied to daveallan81's topic in Years Gone By
I assume by second half you mean a short event rather than a full 20 heat affair? Was the original attempt just programmed as a second half or was that to be a full 20 heats? -
This National League match was rained off on 11th September. The meeting was to have been a double-header with the Snushall Suffolk Open Junior Championship. The league match was quickly re-arranged for the 13th but it again fell victim to the weather. Was the Junior meeting also re-arranged for the 13th?

These figures include all EL & PL matches from 2014, 2015 and this season up to Sunday past, the 18th. Total matches: 851 Teams using TR: 519 (60.98% of matches saw at least one TR) Resulting in a win: 19 (3.66%) A draw: 1 (0.19%) A loss: 499 (96.15%) I've used 1977 & 78 for the TS comparison. Note that TS rides taken by reserves are NOT included, only rides by a member of the 1-5 have been counted. It's not always possible to pinpoint a reserve taking a TS so best to exclude them for a bit more accuracy. Total matches: 1406 Teams using TS: 1124 (79.94% of matches saw at least one TS) Resulting in a win: 41 (3.65%) A draw: 25 (2.22%) A loss: 1058 (94.13%) Only one EL TR has translated into a win in 2016. One ended in a draw. 61 made no odds to the result. The PL has had 5 turnarounds and 80 made no difference. The lack of draws under the TR rule is probably down to the odd points they generate - 8-1, 7-2 and 6-3 - in fact the one draw came in a match where the TR resulted in a 5-3. If you were to drop the double points aspect which in effect means no tactical changes, 2 of this seasons matches would still have resulted in a win, 3 would have become draws and 2 losses. It is impossible to extrapolate the results for the TS, but as a quick aside - the 1981 NL KOC was run over 16 heats without TS, R/R or guests and returned an average score difference of a home win by 11.32. The average diff for league matches that season was 11.30. There you have it. You can argue all you want over which system has the greater merits but in the end, resorting to either means you're probably going to lose. Which beggars the question, why do some folk extol the virtues of one system when both return practically the same outcome? Two final queries - of all the things that got you hooked in the first place, be they sights, sounds, smells, whatever - how many of them still exist? And what new ones have been added to your likes, what goes on at a meeting today that you wish had been around from the word go?

I see now that I misread your post but I take no offence at people questioning my workings. I don't read the magazine so I have no idea of what went to print but it's good that folk are taking a good look and spotting errors or omissions - my earlier Bob Coles error for example. Cheers.

Bradford Greenfield was on the list. The Neath match 10th July 1962 was staged at St. Austell.

He's the chap. My 14 year old nephew sent me that, I thought it was quite clever.
