From the Poole v Wolverhampton programme editorial, 3rd May 1978: "As we look forward this evening to the encounter with Wolverhampton, we pause to pay tribute to the memory of the late Kevin Holden, whose tragic accident occurred just twelve months ago. Kevin's wife, Tina, and his father, Mr. George Holder, have presented a cup to be awarded to the highest Poole point-scorer in the match, and this will be handed to the successful rider by Mr. Charles Foot, President of the BSPA and Poole's Company Secretary." Malcolm Simmons and Martin Yeates were joint top scorers with 9 apiece. There was no note in the programme as to whom the trophy was awarded.

I have found my original post buried in a thread entitled "Anyone Else Considering Walking Away From Speedway?" from September 2016. " These figures include all EL & PL matches from 2014, 2015 and this season up to Sunday past, the 18th. Total matches: 851 Teams using TR: 519 (60.98% of matches saw at least one TR) Resulting in a win: 19 (3.66%) A draw: 1 (0.19%) A loss: 499 (96.15%) I've used 1977 & 78 for the TS comparison. Note that TS rides taken by reserves are NOT included, only rides by a member of the 1-5 have been counted. It's not always possible to pinpoint a reserve taking a TS so best to exclude them for a bit more accuracy. Total matches: 1406 Teams using TS: 1124 (79.94% of matches saw at least one TS) Resulting in a win: 41 (3.65%) A draw: 25 (2.22%) A loss: 1058 (94.13%) " Complete original post here http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=82765&page=8&do=findComment&comment=2851526 Apologies for my inaccurate recollections earlier.

I ran figures for tactical substitutes in a thread ages ago. I didn't keep the worksheet and I can't be bothered raking around to find what I posted, but essentially under the old 13 heat formula use of one or more tactical substitutes resulted in more turnarounds than the current tactical ride set up. I think the TS success rate was around 10% compared to just over 4% for the single TR in 2016. There have been 22 TR rides taken so far in 2017, none have resulted in victories.

I advise caution when using this site. Some of the information has been regurgitated from inaccurate sources. League and cup results are particularly susceptible.

What are you on about? Scunthorpe took an 8-1 in heat 7 and lost by 3. If it had been a 5-1 they would have lost by 6. Either way they leave with a point. 17 TR rides taken this season, none have made any difference to the final result or the league points.

The 2016 Elite League saw the TR used 63 times. This resulted in 1 win and 1 draw. It was available but not used once. It wasn't available in 47 fixtures. The Premier League saw it used 89 times. This resulted in 5 wins. It was available but not used on 5 occasions. It wasn't available in 62 fixtures. It has been used 10 times so far this season (3 x Prem & 7 x Champ) with no success.

Correct. 26th May 1980.

Not quite, Steve. 9/10/70 Olsen scored 4-11-0 for Wolves, Louis 5-15-0 from reserve for Newport. The two didn't meet, Olsen dropped his point to Bruce Cribb. A couple of weeks later 23/10 Louis guested for Hackney at reserve and scored 4-10-2 while West Ham's Barry Crowson recorded 5-14-0 in a challenge. Again they didn't meet, Garry Middleton taking the point from Crowson.

5/4 Oxford 19/4 Teesside 26/4 Canterbury 10/5 Weymouth 17/5 Boston 24/5 Stoke (KOC) 13/6 Scunthorpe 21/6 Rye House 2/8 Crayford 30/8 Coatbridge 20/9 Mildenhall 27/9 Berwick (KOC) 11/10 Stoke Going back to the McKinna brothers, they came within a whisker of all 3 going unbeaten in the one match. 1/9/89 v Mildenhall, Kenny scored a full 15, Charlie 9+3 from 4 but was excluded on 2 mins in his first ride, and Martin 12+1 from 5 dropping his only point to Peter Glanz.

Chris Turner was indeed the only rider to beat Joe at Brough in NL or KOC matches in 1976. He finished behind Phil Crump & Steve Gresham in an ILKOC tie with Newport. He also lost both legs of a Silver Helmet challenge to Laurie Etheridge. His only other home defeats over 4 laps were by Graham Jones (Berwick) in a challenge match and by bruv Tom in a Best Pairs event. Joe and Tom rode unbeaten together in 14 league & cup matches, 13 at Brough and 1 away at Boston.

Charlie and Kenny McKinna for Glasgow at Blantyre although two of Kenny's were from reserve: 17/10/80 v Workington 4-9-3 & 3-8-1 15/05/81 v Exeter 4-10-2 & 4-12-0 22/05/81 v Ellesmere Port 5-13-2 & 3-9-0 25/09/81 v Stoke 4-11-1 & 4-10-2 Also 31/07/81 v Milton Keynes, Charlie 4-12-0 and Kenny 3-7-2 but he was riding with a broken ankle and pulled out of his fourth ride so technically no max.

My reason for enquiring was I planned to take in the football match before it then stick around for the practice. Will I be expected to leave the stadium then pay back in?
-
Cheers
-
Will there be any charge to watch the P&P on 25th March?
-
Rod Colquhoun and Marcus Bisson spring to mind.
-
It is March.

If Ermolenko had been excluded in that race he could still have won his final heat to be champion. As it was he just pootled round at the back pulling wheelies because the title was already in the bag.

Glasgow went burst at the end of 1995. Edinburgh, having lost Powderhall, moved into Shawfield and took the name Scottish Monarchs. They lasted one season before moving out to Armadale and a new promotion moved in to revive the Tigers.

As far as I am aware Workington didn't operate in 1986.
