  1. No, nobody arguing. Just pointing out the anomalies of the maths - especially when using Excel. Anyway, it provided a laugh for those who are really interested
  2. And there's the beauty/frustration of Excel. Using the actual figures (as pointed out), after the the 2.5% reduction, it adds up to 42.0015. Round up/down to hundredths, and it's 41.99. Absolutely my error not spotting that, and just reading the total given by Excel, but it shows the anomalies that can creep in. Glad everyone has had a laugh
  3. My calculations are below. Just out of interest, can you confirm where the 0.01 that I've over estimated is? I'm not complaining or suggesting anything is wrong. 42.00 looks good from the points limit perspective - it' just that without the rounding after the reductions the total is 42.00150 I used the Final Green Sheets (published to hundredths) before calculating the 2.5% reduction - for example, Cook was 9.02 before becoming 8.79. Others: Brennan 6.03, Hume 5.01 and Bailey 4.28.

  5. King needs to improve in Heat 13 & 15 if he wants to up his average. 2021 Home average: 8.45 Average in Heats 13 & 15: 6.86 2021 Away average: 7.48 Average in Heats 13 & 15: 6.15
  6. SCB Regulations: "010.2.3 Amended MA’s With the approval of the BSPA GC or Directors for: a) riders who have been absent from British Speedway racing for more than 3 seasons (The MA may be increased or decreased)."
  7. I think there might have been a delay because the team comes in at exactly 42.00, after 2.5% reductions for Brits - and technically it's a few thousandths over the limit. The Green Sheets are based on averages to hundredths, although I think they have used the thousandth if averages are the "same" and a difference needs to be worked out between, e.g. heat leader/second string/reserve (not possible of course if they've had the same number of rides and scored the same number points).
  8. The size of his truck is about right for the shale required at Wimborne Road
  9. Not sure of "many finals" that Allen has won "around the globe" ... a State Championship was a good achievement. Last season he definitely struggled with Foxhall, which, despite the many changes, is still more technical than others of a similar white line size - namely Scunthorpe and Redcar. I believe that Ipswich and Scunthorpe are both officially 285 metres, while Redcar is a bit shorter at 271. However, I don't think Foxhall is as wide as either of those, although I'm struggling to find the actual data. No direct criticism of Allen - he's clearly a competitive rider when he's happy and confident. I definitely agree that the Ipswich management have been lacking for a long time in producing an overall team that has a killer instinct - they produce teams that keep the majority of home fans happy because they are full of nice blokes who try hard - but ultimately don't achieve a great deal.
  10. No idea who else the Witches could sign to be closer to the limit? The Prem has had to bring in some second-hand riders to bolster a couple of teams (Basso is closest to a "new" signing), and BV seem to be struggling to fill their seven. On top of that, the Witches don't have a recent record for unearthing new talent from anywhere ... The riders they have chosen to wear a Witches suit are popular with the vast majority of home fans - who simply like to support nice blokes, who try hard. Many of them still love Heeps, despite his frustrating lack of overall progress - and King is a hero, even though he's never shown the same capability of team riding that we associate with the truly great Witches #1s. It'll be fascinating to see if King can develop any sort of understanding with Doyle for Heats 13 & 15, and the new pairs competition.
  11. The SON winners are indeed Great Britain. Even if they were Team GB, the winners would still be Great Britain - same as Olympic winners. The British Olympic Association actually has Team GB as a commercial trademarked name - that might be why the speedway equivalent is now known as the GB Speedway Team: https://gbspeedwayteam.com/
  12. Don't think the poster meant the abandonment - he was probably referring to the pathetic decision by the BSPA to introduce a rule that enables the result to be declared at such an early unbalanced point in the meeting. Sorry, I must have missed the irony of your comment - I assumed you meant that because Poland do it, it's OK. I hope you don't think like that.
  13. What's that got to do with the price of rhubarb? I hope the BSPA don't try to use that as some sort of example. The rule to declare an abandonment after 12 heats was originally brought in on the basis that the declaration could only be made if the result was beyond doubt. The BSPA then craftily ignored that aspect of the rule, and there have been examples of league matches being declared where teams even still had a chance to win, not least gain a league bonus point - and more remarkably, even one leg of a KO Cup meeting! To decide that this highway robbery can now take place after 10 heats just shows the penny-pinching self-interest of the BSPA. They complain about "internet mischief makers", and then quite happily bring the sport into disrepute themselves - simultaneously shafting fans and sponsors. Bunch of jokers.
  14. Just another stupid cost cutting exercise, which at the same time robs the paying customer. There's no way that a result was certain after two thirds of the meeting. How can Rye House accept that, whe they could at least get one PL point, which could prove vital in the final table. Pathetic. Stuff like this makes me ashamed to be a speedway fan. The BSPA makes a laughing stock of the sport and takes the pee out of honest people who pay good money to watch.
  15. All due respect to Boxall, not a direct replacement for Nelson (not on current form anyway). Because Bunyan is also missing, the Rockets will be able to use R/R & a guest. Maybe name Boxall at #8?
  16. Ah well, there you go - just proves how observant I am! I did spend a very pleasant few minutes chatting with Emma from KL, who I had previously only "spoken" to as part of the Live Updates team and on Twitter. No doubt the aljackal was deep in conversation with his many friends .
  17. I do know that the interval took much longer than expected, but no idea why the crop sprayer didn't come out. There's an option on the Witches website to ask questions, so you could always try that - you don't have to use your real name . Shouldn't be a shock to see CL workiing on the track. Bob would have been there early doors, and the old boy needs a break

  19. Remarkable ride by Barker and Hawkins in Heat 10 - I think Hawkins deserves just as much credit for being in the thick of the action, and taking advantage of the gaps. I still can't work out how they got past Doolan. Barker didn't look like he could catch Bjerre, and his pass just put the icing on a superb four laps. You can argue that Leicester were weakened by the loss of Nieminen, simply because R/R reduces the options for Heat 15. Amazingly, the Lions scored 9 from the programmed rides, so overall they didn't really miss him - and the match points were lost before Heat 15. Apart from Bjerre, there wasn't much else for the travelling fans to get excited about. Karlsson looked sharp in his first ride, and certainly smoother on track than most of the other riders - but after the "missed heartbeat" events of Hawkins chicane along the home straight in Heat 6, the veteran Swede looked out of it. Doolan also started well, and also tailed off alarmingly - he has tweeted that he thinks he may have a virus. Maybe it's the same one that saw him get 7 from 5 for the Witches on too many occaisions. No hard feelings for Doolan, who we all know is a jolly decent chap, but as Louis said at the pre-season event, Doolan was brought to Ipswich to be a #1 and he never really delivered. I can understand why Branford felt hard done by in Heat 2, but there was no contact at all. Ellis simply locked-up, and Branford did the same behind him - but fell. The Ref obviously saw it as a racing incident (assuming he saw it). I couldn't see when the red lights came on, but it was a hairy moment when Ellis hit the first bend full tilt next time round and Brandford and bike were still on the track. I think Branford is a competitive rider, and hopefully he will be given not just the chance to settle in, but also as much time as Nielsen, who seems to have a charmed life. The Dane is clearly tidy and capable, but surely the time he has been given could be better invested in more young Brits? I can't believe they've released Blackbird, but kept Nielsen. As for Graversen - what an incredibly awkward and ungainly rider - nothing else to say. A thoroughly good all round performance from the Witches - the jury is still out whether they can mount a serious challenge for the PL (especially after the thrashing at Workington), but they will definitely be in the mix. I had a chat with Adam Ellis after the meeting, for Rerun Productions, and as well as being a very talented rider, the impression I got was of a level-headed and articulate young man. Definitely one DVD I would recommend is worth a purchase .
  20. Went through the usual Live Updates problem of saying ambulance called, then getting private message to say that his mum was watching updates and going mental ... Thankfully, I think they were able to establish some sort of comms with the USA group.
  21. Apparently Jock is a strapping lad, and very protective of Dick. Could be those two if they take the Mick.
  22. And just think how many people you've taken off the attendance at RH because they would rather stay at home to see your texts!
  23. Thanks for the update. It was always going to be a gamble pitching him in there, considering the American Tourists are racing at NL level. OMD were brilliant at The Regent, and I got to see John Foxx too .
  24. So, how many of the current EL clubs currently stage an individual meeting? They seem to find it difficult getting their top riders to appear for League matches, which have already been cut down to a supposedly manageable level.
