  1. Who's the ref, sounds like he's holding the tapes from the updates?
  2. Looked ok when he rode against Peterborough on Monday
  3. If it was the end of heat 6 'crash' which is being referred to, after racing to the line Drew was on the outside of Alfie and then he had to avoid Lawson who was slowing on the first bend after crossing the line. That appeared to unbalance him and rather than crashing he appeared to fall off before his bike 'crashed' into the air fence! Drew showed a little more commitment on Sunday than in his last couple of appearances at Owlerton and his gate and line in heat 8 was great, perhaps he should use his 'second' bike more often at Sheffield. More to the point what happened to Ben Morley on Sunday, he wouldn't have scored at all if Josh hadn't had the mechanical problem at the start of heat 8. Did he tire himself out at Stoke the night before?
  4. Think Flagrag was referring to the Leicester 50/50 draw, not Sheffield. Apologies if I'm wrong.
  5. Good meeting for Broc last night in the GP challenge at Glasgow, hope he continues that form this evening.
  6. The Carvery is in the stadium in the Panorama room (next to the bar) it has to be booked in advance. Not had one for a couple of years, but it was ok and presume it still is. Telephone number for booking is on the Sheffield website I believe.
  7. Couldn't be there but from what I've read it appears Drew Kemp did himself proud and at 16 seems to me that he could win this title 3 or 4 times before he's out of this age bracket, well done Drew and all the other riders who took part, sounds like it was a decent meeting apart from the obvious. (If Robert Lambert didn't have machinery issues he was bound to win it wasn't he!)
  8. Surprised Joe Lawlor isn't riding in this or has he chucked it all in after 'Vape gate' with Glasgow? Josh McDonald was looking good in last years Young Gun meeting, it'll be interesting to see how some of them perform this time around.
  9. After what I saw at the EWR this evening can't see anything other than the Tigers getting a severe mauling from the Lions tomorrow. Tigers just not on it at all, heat leaders are pretty average and they are carrying three riders at present. Things may have to change!
  10. To clarify in heat 9 Nicols bike stopped on the start line when he appeared to pull out the cut - off, he was pushing the bike himself in order to start it when the start marshal decided to give him a hand. Didn't make a blind bit of difference the race was already over for him at that point! Yes it was a shame about heats 9 & 10 for us, we were just coming back into the meeting at that point, but again even if we had got our noses infront after heat 11, heats 12, 13 and 14 would still have killed us off. Have to agree with Topaz, it was freezing again, just like last year, still I suppose it boosts the sales of hot drinks!
  11. Just read the Phil Lanning interview with Josh Bates in this weeks Speedway Star. It starts with "You will never ride a speedway bike again." This was what the 'surgeon' said to Josh in his hospital bed after his sledging accident in March last year. Ok, Josh argued that he would, but all things being considered why did it take such a length of time for him to be replaced in last years Sheffield team? If this is true surely it was obvious that it wasn't going to be a matter of weeks before he was back, but the actual months it did take. To be honest I wasn't aware he'd had an operation as a result of his injury, when I fractured my spine as a result of a fall (quite a high one!) I didn't have surgery but it was 5 months before I could return to work. It was quite obvious therefore that he would not be riding, however how long did we go with R/R for him before Jan Graversen was signed? Another part of his interview made me smile where he says, "Without speedway, I've got nothing, nothing in life. Nothing to fall back on." This from a fella who decided he was retiring from speedway in December 2017, remember that? It's good to see him back though, he really looked on it at the Ben fund meeting and I am looking forward to seeing him ride Sheffield in our next home meeting, even if it is for Leicester.
  12. You lucky person, you bought yours just after me, I had 1370! Spend it wisely - not like I would've.
  13. If the Tigers aren't better than they were last week they may struggle against a team that has three heat leaders that ride Sheffield well. Some of their other riders have also done ok here as well. Could be a close one!
  14. Bears top 3 should win this for them unless Howarth can improve his current form and Proctor can sort his starts. Although Andersen and Nicol must be better than last week and Kemp, well who knows what he might do!
  15. We're all halfway home when heat 16 is finishing!!
  16. Don't know when the averages are due to be updated but after yesterdays meeting think they should change the riding order, swap Kennedy and Andersen and Howarth and Proctor. Think Jake Allen was good, especially after his tumble in heat 4, but Drew Kemp definitely was 'Rider of the meeting'. Can only see him improving as he gets more track time at home, and is quickly becoming a fans favourite. Really put in the effort and got the crowd going in heat 5 with his tussle with Stefan Nielsen (top marks to him for staying on his bike when Drew pushed under him on the 3rd bend). Whilst on about heat 5 think Proctor needs some anger management counselling before things really get out of hand!
  17. Doesn't matter if young Josh has improved 100%, it's old Josh that needs to pull his finger out if you're going to get anything out of this! Mind you Garrity and Allen do ride Sheffield well.
  18. If any newbys came last Sunday there was nothing to make them want to come back this week! Can't see it being any better this week to be honest, unless they do some real different track prep.
  19. Our tickets were 892 and 893 and we came in just before the racing started, however the tickets in the other booth might have been numbered 1000 onwards.
  20. To take it back to Scunthorpe matters then, I've noticed the blue kevlars of Josh Auty at the first two meetings I've been to this year, they've either been at the back, on the centre green or on the track! What was it 9 heats before he scored any points and that heat only had three riders in it. He'd better get his machinery sorted out if he's going to stay your number 1. Still he might be thinking about retirement again! Having said this he'll probably come to Sheffield next Sunday and score a maximum. (By the way think I've read somewhere that kevlars have almost doubled in price this year, that might be a reason for some teams not to have race suits)
  21. The most entertaining part of todays meeting was when the guy in the Tiger suit (believe he's the mascot) fired the tee shirt onto the roof of the stand instead of into the crowd for someone to catch. Classic!
  22. Lou Charlesworth didn't seem to be in line with the new rule today. He did it the old way (put his arms down and started walking), the ref had to react to him and put the green light on as he started walking. Who cares?
  23. I agree with you 100%, I've never seen a blue line that wide around the 3rd and 4th bends in all the years I've been going. Riss managed to get some grip around the outside in one heat, but then couldn't get any at all the next time he tried it! Steve Worrall was the only other rider to get anything on the outside, but again on the one occasion. Yes it was pretty boring viewing really. Was it prepared like that on purpose to keep it safe? Needs to be better to make it more entertaining.
  24. It'll be interesting to see how many riders go through the starting tapes today with the introduction of the new rule. It was mayhem last week at Leicester!
