Scorpions v Gladiators 3rd July
Hamish McRaker replied to Paul Johnson's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Think if you look up Scunthorpe v Leicester matches from 2019 when Leicester won the Championship with Nicholls mostly riding at no.1, you might come across at least one instance of him being beaten by a very young Scunthorpe rider if my memory serves right. Can't recall any especially adverse Leicester supporter reaction at the time, even though he was then just a mere stripling of about 39. Not sure what the Scunthorpe rider/s are doing now -
Probably the right change - who would go to reserve? Batchelor? So effectively Zagar for Batchelor and a number 6 who should be capable of hitting higher scores than Jeppesen has been getting

Seeing one or two comparisons with Birmingham, but its much too soon for that and in any case hopefully its a wrong comparison. Season 1 always a case of get going and survive relatively unscathed, probably on an initial shoestring budget. Getting as far as July is an achievement so completing the season looks good. Hope that with a clearer run-up, season 2 brings better competitively and track prep is more straightforward. But it will need more sponsorship and marketing, and personally I still cant figure out the Foxes branding. Hope it gets changed whilst it still can be!

Has to be a decision for a promoter/owner to make, after consulting with relevant people and checking compliance with law and regulations. Then it's a question of assessing the potential risk factors and measures taken to help prevent relapse and are they working and sufficient. Personally, I'd draw the line at convicted sex offenders and murderers.

Fair point but not many of those "countless others" are riding a lethal machine capable of causing injury and even death. How would you feel if you found out the person driving the train you're on has mental illness? Or anyone driving cars on the same stretch of road as yourself? Your answer would probably involve the degree of severity and its actual effect on the person as to his/her ability to safely carry out those things. And the opinion of qualified medics, and that of employers. It's a matter of context and circumstances

Well now that fully makes sense. I didn't actually hear him, just read it The English would have thought he was pronouncing "scalped" in a posh English way -

Having your backside scalped (as Stewart Dickson has described it) must be very painful. Never experienced it myself - is it some S&M thing involving leather and straps? -

Very funny ad popped up as I was scrolling through this thread - a high street cash dispenser with long and orderly queue of grey haired people wearing glasses. Those algorithms obviously have a good sense of humour! -
The only report I've seen mentioned him getting something like 4 bonus points in an early season match. I'm presuming the above do not include BP's?
-
What were his track performances like this season so far, up until the recent accident?
-
Could Zagar be brought in when he is able to ride again? Or perhaps Jeppesen, if Zagar returns to Northampton? Quite handy, having a B team.

As with Mikkelsen and Ljung (plus another whose name is dont recall) at Leicester ten years ago, the promotion talked complete batrubbish and as is often the case, people believed it!

1970's or 2020's?
Hamish McRaker replied to Hamish McRaker's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I'm going to put the case for the 2020's. It's getting a raw deal. Umm, errr, hmmm Case proven🫢 -
You put your right leg in, your left leg out, you do the Hokey Kokey and you....fall flat on your face. So, Kennett's failing to practice has saved Ipswich from even further embarrassment!

Lewis Bridger next for a comeback?

I've put this onto the Premiership section because i've given up trying to get my tech to get into a general speedway discussions area! It applies to Championship level as well. In the 1970's there were riders galore with averages over 9 points. Plenty over 10 and a small but significant contingent over 11. Maximums or nearly by Mauger, Olsen, Crump, Collins, Lee, Louis, Simmons etc were commonplace. Ah, those were the days! Or were they?? Today, more or less anybody can and does beat the "top dogs". No more dominance, at least at the Mauger and Olsen level. I'm sure the race format and gate position changes will have played a big part in this. So what's better? Domination by an elite group or riders, or greater unpredictability?

This time, it looks like Leicester has dealt with this whole matter in the right way

I suspect his real name is Nicolas Klynovski who is a Russian FSB agent using the cover of pretending to be a speedway rider to send coded messages to the Kremlin which give hourly assessments out of 10, of Britain's ability to defend itself against an invasion

What sort of part does insurance play in that sort of thing? Do riders become uninsurable after a certain point? Adam Roynon kept on coming back and back, maybe still riding occasionally now?

He probably has a high pain threshold. Physically and mentally different gravy from the standard human. Bless his cotton socks
