Sheffield V Birmingham 28.03.13
luluthetiger replied to kitten2502's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Agree on Heat 8 -- Albin just never gave up, what a great race. Every Sheffield rider (except little Joe, and we know he's got it in him) contributed something to show he can do the business. Tigers got to blow away their cobwebs against an Elite League squad, will be better for it at Leicester and next Thursday against the champions. -
Berwick V Edinburgh 30th March @ 7pm

In Heat 1 he was beaten by Facundo Albin! -
Will be there, well wrapped up!

Yet I'm told there was the best press turnout for years, some interesting revelations and that both Screeny and Henning Bager were out on track for a skid! Can't wait for Sunday.......

British Semi Finals
luluthetiger replied to brewer's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
So what do you suggest? Seeding Ipswich riders to the British Final? Running the semi-finals on a night to suit Ipswich and not some other track(s).? Put Barker and Lanham to the Sheffield meeting to allow you to dignify Scunthorpe with your presence? A National Championship eliminator takes precedence over a common league event. Get over it. -
Due to dreaful bad luck for Andy Tully, looks like Newcastle might have to start the season with six race-suits and a soccer jersey!

British Semi Finals

Good question. This is a matter for BSPA office, but it has to be expected the draw(s) will be announced by next week at the latest, as the two tracks need time to publicise their events, and the riders to plan their journeys. -

The meeting with Birminham doesn't matter, but once the real racing starts, might the Tigers not be better with Albin at 7 (if he's going to be the better five-pointer)? Give Damien Koppe the No 2 while he's finding his feet, have Facundo filling his boots at reserve? Also, the weaker reserve should always be at 6.
-
How ever Sean sets out his stall, somone will complain! Much might depend on which of the Aussies adapts quickest to Ashfield. But surely Joe Jacobs will be at 6, not 7.
-
100% correct, George and Freddy. The last few years saw the Tigers seemingly on a death wish (sun-off dramas and the horror of 4/6/10) in attempting to destroy the sense and sensibility of local derby rivalry, with the financial benefit it automatically brings when handled properly. Hopefully, the new Ashfield outfit recognise their absolute need for a healthy Edinburgh, and the clubs will cross-pollenate support, as used to happen.

Edinburgh Champions 2013 ? 😄
luluthetiger replied to ekimba's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Absolutely nothing to do with speedway this time. BSPA would have agreed Sam's situation right away, it is just the snail-like progress of the two governmental bodies to blame. Workington's Mason Campton is also hung up over in Australia just now. Matty Wethers had a long wait for his visa last winter, I think it was. -

According to his Facebook messaging, Sam Masters won't be here for the P+P............ -
Really on the wrong track's thread here, but he was fantastic at Shawfield in 1988. Glasgow owe him an awful lot. He's been on radio on a Sunday for over thirty years, and has already admitted he had been approached about taking over on the infield at Ashfield this year, but declined.
-
OK, let's discuss your valid point, well-stated. You suggest a newer, fresher, modern approach -- but what is that going to be?
-
Discussions on the Berwick thread about new Glasgow centre-green presenter. Apparently he was at the BenFund meeting, and was talking with Dick Barrie after the meeting. Presumably about presentation.......
-
Nae luck then - Dick will smile if he learns of your horror. He was pretty good on Saturday, I thought -- still knows so much, never uses notes or carries a clipboard. His shoes will take some filling. The DJ you mention was in the announcer's box, did a fair job for a first-timer.
-
To be fair, I understand that was Steve Hayward's first-ever meeting as announcer, and to me he was OK, we got the results and times clearly enough - what else do you want? The rest of the show was fine, apart from the cold. Berwick did their usual good show, Dick Barrie as slick as ever on the grass and race after race came piling out of the pits. Burgers remain the best in speedway!
-
I'm told that he's already in Berwick, will be (spectating) at the BenFund event

You mean, there'll be no problem about Glasgow seeing the colour of Mr Patchett's money? Well, that would be nice, but I think it is pretty clear the rider now won't be released until the cash hits the barrelhead. -
Respect for Hans. The other GP-class riders need to take a long hard look at themselves.
-
Big respect to Hans Andersen! Not too far for him to come, and honour the cause. Other GP winkers (possible typo there) need to take a long hard look in their mirrors!
