These days, e-mails make mincemeat of miles -- Neil can discuss terms of sale from Australia as easily as Arbourthorne, actual sale would go through solicitors.

Some interesting questions to be asked on Saturday night, I think.

Sounds quite possible. Two home, two away. Terribly sad though.

Marvellous observation. Well said.

Teams Making The Move Up
luluthetiger replied to muirspud's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Leaving the NL clubs (and Glasgow, who really seem sadly doubtful) out of it, if there was total integration and a strictly north-south divide, you would have: North: Belle Vue, Berwick, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Redcar, Scunthorpe, Sheffield, Workington, Leicester,Peterborough and Wolverhampton. South: Birmingham, Coventry, Eastbourne, King's Lynn, Lakeside, Poole, Swindon, Ipswich, Plymouth, Rye House and Somerset Which is why any such talk of "one big league, split north and south" will never fly. Plan B, anyone? -
Take it you believe everything that's written.
-
Of course Berwick will use Liam Carr. No further discussion. As to other riders, remember that there may be a surplus of riders in the north for next season with Glasgow not running.
-
Facundo was a breath of fresh air. I'd not be surprised if he was now followed by other young Argentinians, remembering the Dick Barrie articles in Speedway Star about all the youngsters over there.
-
I believe he was available, but several enquiries found Emiliano wanting a little bit more than clubs wanted to pay. By no means the first rider to drift out of the sport for this reason.
-
Berwick were unlucky with Barnwell getting injured, he looked a prospect the previous summer in the NJL and it was the changes further up the team which left Albin on the bench, allowing him to go to the Tigers to become a very popular asset. But the Bandits have nurtured David Bellego, and surely have another one coming along in Liam Carr. Their management is on the right track, it is just a pity a couple of the other riders named above by Boobs were not given more encouragement from the terracing, or there might already be more club assets on the team-sheet next season. I do agree the recruitment of loanees is a dead-end street.

As I put on another thread too, hoping to end the whining sounds from the south-west: Seniority is agreed when each new member joins one of the leagues. Last year's final also between two Friday clubs, and the senior club (er, Somerset) had, and took, the Friday night as was their right. Don't recall the Rebels' fans doing much moaning back then........

Bears Vs Rebels 03/09/13 7:30pm
luluthetiger replied to Willowman's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Of course they do. It is a race-night seniority agreed when each new member joins one of the leagues, nothing to do with the type of meeting being staged. Anyway, wasn't last season's final also between two Friday clubs, and the senior club (er, Somerset) had, and took, the Friday night? Don't recall the Rebels' fans doing much moaning back then........ -
It was a joke, actually. Don't know him, only as a poster on here.

I agree on that point. The rented portacabin would be insured by its owner, and the contents must surely have been insured by the directors. Surely?
-
When we say "the promotion" we need to be more specific. The "ownership" is Alun and Gordon, who put in a huge amount of money to buy the club (from Alan and Stewart) and keep it running. The "directors" are Derek, Ian, Craig and Colin, who were appointed by the owners to promote and run the club. My feeling is there was a degree of naivety by the owners in entrusting their investment to an inexperienced, albeit enthusiatic board of directors of the company. In turn there was a degree of incompetance on the part of some of the board, a little race-day posing and an over-optimistic lack of awareness of what was happening financially. I am sorry, but to lose £55,000 of other peoples' money isn't good. We mustn't ignore the other points in that Red Alert. Yes, blaming the supporters for not turning out wasn't clever, but it also lays down hopeful guidelines on raising additional sponsorship and reducing outgoings if the club is to go forward. What is needed now is a public meeting to decide the future. Glasgow Tigers are roughly where the Monarchs were a year ago, no worse off. At such an event, there should be no recriminations, or time-wasting over the past -- hold a a purposeful event, attended only by positive forward--thinkers.

No, that's the wrong way round!

I read the newsletter as saying tonight is the last match of the season. Things are so "down" at present, would a fence-fund/James Grieves meeting really raise funds? Glasgow have only two or three riders left -- who else would come and ride for nothing? At the end of the day, even a fund-raising meeting might lose money.
-
Totally agree. I'm told Liam even has his own nameplate in the Armadale pits now -- if Berwick don't ensure they capitalise on their asset he could be allowed to drift away. His progress in the latter part of 2013 has been impressive, and he fully deserves his chance in the 2014 Bandits line-up. NB: It has to be hoped he escapes the sarcastic criticism heaped on other young number 7s introduced to black-and-gold as he is finding his feet.

I think this thread might be better titled: Glasgow 2014? There really has to be a huge question-mark over the Tigers continuing unless Alun Biggurt and Gordon Pairman have vast amounts of disposable income to pour into the black hole that is PL speedway at Ashfield. A National League team might, however, attract not far off the same level of support at about 25% of the outlay. Discuss?

Edinburgh V Ipswich (plpf-gb) 4/10/13 @ 7.30pm

One has to presume that Ritchie Hawkins (with a wee fall in his last ride last night) won't make it over the border today. Just guessing, mind...... -
No, I think he's finished with National League now.

Well done Edinburgh. Klindt exposed by Mr Gay as the tart he is. So -- anything but a heavy defeat tomorrow night, and Edinburgh are in the Final, yes?
