  1. If you think the Premier League is successful and in demand, how about the UK Parliament? It’s the Mother of all Parliaments and admired across the democratic world. It’s so popular that there are 650 participants, men, women, LGBTs, dames and knights of the realm. They’re voted in by 30 million followers, have billion pound budgets and their every move is scrutinised everyday by the British press and they have far more coverage than Premier League football. Errrr ...... see how number of followers, money and press coverage still doesn’t polish a turd?
  2. What’s the point of it when averages are more accurate?
  3. That’s because it’s football. A popular game played by everyone everywhere and part of British culture. It’s not because it’s a brilliantly run minority sport supported by 1,000 fans a match. It’s pathetic that only a third of the clubs have a chance of winning it.
  4. So that you have a fair competition. Otherwise it will become like Premier League football. Rubbish.
  5. That’s a good point. Lower limits can put successful riders out of a job or cause them to ride somewhere they don’t want to.
  6. They’re not. As you’ve said, it’s been said for years, So is now the time to adopt it? Regardless of the fact that it’s Swindon. It should encourage loyalty from riders and fans and please the fans, which is quite the opposite of breaking up teams every year. Pleasing fans is what the sport needs!
  7. You would think his old average will be invalid and he will come in on 6.5, as he’s a Polish Nice Liga rider like Pieszczek.
  8. Let’s hope he goes to the eighth team.
  9. No points limit would allow a club to buy the title - Man City - and pretty quickly put the lesser supported clubs out of business. Wouldn’t it?
  10. Well, it wouldn’t be an exception if it were the new rule! That’s the point of the thread. If Terry Russell can point to three or four eight pointers who want to come over from the continent at a reasonable price he might have a case. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be fair.
  11. That would be crap. Can you imagine a sport that allows a few teams to have a massive spending advantage to buy the best players and thrash the poorer teams? It’d never catch on. Off to watch the football now.
  12. Because averages are based on 4 rides per rider. Even if Jason Doyle scored a 15 point max in every match he would average 12, not 15, because it’s worked out 15 divided by 5 rides multiplied by 4.
  13. Out of interest, do you think two riders in a team could both score 21 point maximums, for 12 point averages, and one rider 3, for a 4 point average, giving a team average of 27? Just random scores that add to 45.
  14. You can’t pick random figures, you need to go through a race card and make certain assumptions, like number ones beat heat leaders who beat second strings who beat the senior reserve who beat the junior reserve and home riders beat their away counterparts.
  15. Just looked up the highest averaged riders that rode in the PL this season and ended up without clubs. They’re all 5 pointers and wouldn’t get Boro above 41, let alone near 46.34. And that would make it very difficult too for an eighth club to get to 46.34. Both Boro and the eighth club would have to find a couple of 8 pointers, persuading the likes of Zagar, Vaculik, Woffinden, Lindgren, Magic, Chris Holder or Kildemand and filling in with Smolinski, Sundstrom, Milik etc
  16. Good point, thanks. Yes, Drew achieved a CL average above 5 early in the season so I guess he could now come in on the 3 minimum.
  17. Not if this season’s minimum average applies.
  18. So was it good management that Rosco signed Lampart and Wajtknecht and then sacked them and signed Nielsen instead of Vissing. There was an element of bad luck for the club that Zach lost confidence and retired for the season and that Stefan got injured.
  19. I don’t agree. You’re making it about figures regardless of riders and consequently you’re not encouraging loyalty. What’s the point in allowing Swindon to sign seven new riders to 46.34 rather than to 42?
  20. They don’t have to build to that level. All but Boro were competitive this year and Swindon hardly won any away matches and didn’t run away with the league. So there’s no case for saying that every club would have to sign Vaculik, Zmarzlik or Dudek and risk bankruptcy to be competitive. One or two marginally better riders could overturn Swindon.
