I’d take the view of the fan who watched them both rather than the one 300 miles away looking at the end of season averages!
-
Don’t know, but he’s only 21. Are you happy to give every 21 year old 4.61 rider the boot?
-
Yes, he did: four!
-
Do you always talk to people like that?
-
Was he? I’ve just flicked through the Sheffield green sheets on the BSPA site and it looks like MacDonald stayed at reserve on his 4 point assessed average all season. Hang on, he did get up to 4.36 in GSA issue 31 at the end of August, then fell back below 4 by the end of September.
-
Aren’t you mixing up an initially “average” EL rider (Doyle) with a below average CL rider (MacDonald)? There’s no comparison.
-
Greaves started 2019 on 3.99 and finished on 4.61. MacDonald started on 4 and finished under 4. Which is more deserving of a CL place?
-
Doyle from the outset was way above the new Aussies in the CL. He was never a 4 point CL rider like Josh MacDonald! Didn’t he top the IOW averages and then go straight into the Poole team as a 5 point EL rider? Happy for Aussies (and all foreigners) to come over on minimum 5 point averages. 4 is too low and hampers the development of young Brits.
-
Maybe Aussie four pointers should be limited to one per team? Poole have three! If no foreigner came in below 5, our NL riders would stand a better chance of progression without the need to make one per team compulsory.
-
Not bothered about who clubs sign, but surely it makes more sense to give British youngsters a fair chance rather than bringing over foreign riders who have shown no particular potential? I’m not singling out Poole at all, although I wonder if Poole’s four Brits spoke up for the likes of Greaves and Hume? Nathan Greaves had a questionable attitude at Swindon but he seemed to do well for Wolves and has improved at Redcar, so surely he deserves a chance? He certainly did better than Josh MacDonald last year.
-
The four named riders are 23, 22, 21 and 21. None should be without a team place. Keleher, Ben Cook and Kye Thomson have done nothing to give them a prior claim.
-
I think Hume is the oldest at 23 and he’s been held back through injury. Greaves has the most experience but he’s only 21! Bowtell is 22 and Kinsley 21. Surely Greaves would have been better for Poole and GB speedway than 27 year old Keleher or Ben Cook who has shown no form whatsoever? Madness.
-
I doubt that the transfer fees for Greaves, Hume, Bowtell or Kinsley would have exceeded air fares from Australia!
-
Danyon Hume and Ryan Kinsley.
-
Stewart’s a 6 point CL rider, MacDonald a 4 pointer and the other two have no experience of the CL. Isn’t Keleher 27 and hardly one for the future? And Ben Cook seems well behind Somerset’s Zach Cook. Poor.
-
Three uninspiring Aussies with no pedigree or obvious potential after four good GB signings. Shame.
-
So, today’s the day. Hope there’s not an Aussie for the sake of it.
-
But that’s the way in speedway. It’s hanging on by such a thread that manipulation is commonplace.
-
How about anyone having their first three matches for £10 a time? That might attract new fans, former fans, friends and girlfriends who then get the bug sufficiently to pay £16 for the rest of the season.
-
And there you have it: complete nonsense.
-
So we’re none the wiser then! Rew? Never heard of him.
-
Surely not Grondal?
-
That’s exactly why we’re talking about young riders and averages. For you, it doesn’t seem to matter where Poole get their riders from!
-
No, I don’t agree that youngsters should have a two year cushion at reserve, because it gives a big advantage to those teams lucky enough to have the best youngsters. I would though be happy for new averages for youngsters (new 2 pointers under 23) not to take effect until half way through the season. And no foreigner should be allowed an average below 5. If that were the case both Nathan Greaves and Danyon Hume would have CL jobs.
-
It’s down to averages, not because he’s foreign. If foreigner’s had a minimum 5 average (both when they come in and throughout the season), it would help our riders no end. 4 is clearly too low.
