  1. Really? For me Newcastle’s team looks awful.
  2. A very sad loss. What was his illness?
  3. How’s it going? Do you have any symptoms? Did your wife test positive?
  4. Reading a biography of the travel writer Norman Lewis, who raced Bugatti cars in the 1920s and 30s. He also tried his hand at speedway at what was said to be the first meeting in England at High Beech, Epping Forest, in February 1928 before tracks became established at Harringay and White City. The meeting was said not to have been advertised but it drew a crowd of 25,000 and 42 riders rode in 50 races. Before his engine “exploded” Norman came last in every race he rode, bar one when “two of the four contestants crashed”. I assume he came second! No idea how accurate this is!
  5. Tsunami: Covid isn’t seasonal.

  6. Seven eat outs and off abroad for a couple of weeks shortly.
  7. I agree, but that wasn’t the point I was making. If my uncle hadn’t taken me to speedway when I was 13 I would never have gone and would never have heard of it until my thirties when I started buying the local paper, the Swindon Advertiser, which, unlike the national media, does very good speedway coverage.
  8. My original reply was to Grachan’s post that said many people do not know what speedway is, so if they do not have any experience of it at school (unlike the possibility of canoeing etc) or cannot do it at home we’re reliant on publicity (very little in the British media) or older fans taken their children.
  9. Speedway clubs need to get into schools and arrange free, behind the scenes trips to meetings and promote have a go camps.
  10. What I said was: “One of the reasons being it’s not a sport that you can do at school or at home. Practically every other one is, even if they’re restricted to summer camps or trips out to try canoeing or horse riding. And while motor sports are generally not available to children they’re familiar with cars and motorbikes on the road.” While speedway might be available in training camps it doesn’t make it onto the list of extra-curricular sports offered by schools in trips to outdoor activity centres that do canoeing, rock climbing and horse riding.

  12. Nah, I think it’s some sort of conspiracy.
  13. You might think that but BWitcher’s just PMed me to say I’m definitely not part of his clique!
  14. He hasn’t “obsessively baited” Chris4Gillian, he’s had a long debate with him on two threads.
  15. Bwitcher is right about Covid and he has given compelling arguments, citing government figures. Those who argue with him cite opinions, not facts, and consequently they are poor debaters and ultimately resort to insults rather than admit that they are wrong.
  16. Missing Swindon winning the league again. We’ve got used to it.
  17. I would. 7 spoonfuls of sugar in a can of coke! Yuck.
  18. I missed that. Was Darcy Ward charged with rape? I’ve found this saying he was cleared of sexual assault: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-18164500
  19. It’s quite a leap to suggest that someone who presents and comments upon stats might be a paedophile and sex offender!
  20. Didn’t Zabik ride for Peterborough and Poole?
  21. Jurica Pavlic for Swindon
  22. Trouble can be caused by springing things on people; that’s why I suggested more advanced notice and guidance that’s based on a measurable criteria.
  23. Can they not say “provided the R rate is below 1 we will allow outdoor events of up to 5,000 people where two metre distancing can be practised”?
