  1. Fair enough. Not the first time Speedway Star have over-hyped something e.g Briggo's comments on dirt deflectors. As others have said, let's hope Lambert learns to keep his mouth shut and do his talking on the track in future. As I said before, according to Speedway Star Germany are an exception to the norm in letting riders that young compete on 500cc machines.
  2. The wrong context ? Come on, your comment was "the whole thing reeks of jealousy", not just one or two posters on this thread. If you are well aware that there are restraints on 14-year olds and you knew Lambert was challenging those restrictions, why not say so in your post instead of talking about the "whole thing reeking of jealousy"? Not one single poster has knocked him on the grounds of ability, The OP was about him mouthing off in the press bout not riding for his country (which he hasn't been picked for anyway) because he had to follow the same rules as youngsters in most other countries. You are entitled to your opinion but don't start falling back on the "whole thing reeks of jealousy " argument when clearly that is not what people are saying at all.
  3. Ah , so we are down to the "everyone's jealous of poor little ol' Kings Lynn argument". What rubbish. Even Lambert himself doesn't cite that as a reason.. Its pretty clear that 90% of those posting on here either haven't read the article of haven't read it properly so let's be clear on exactly what he is complaining about. Speedway Star paraphrases his complaint as follows :_ "Lambert feels the fact that he was unable to compete on a 500cc machine in his homeland and then only in the National League has not helped his progress" and then quotes him as saying "The reason I'm racing in Germany is because they wouldn't let me race here at a young age" So we so the issue is that Lambert was not allowed to compete in this country on a 500cc machine at the age of 14. GRW23 wants us to believe that it its jealousy but actually its the rules. Not only the rules in this country but the rules in most speedway nations. In fact as SS points out Germany are "very much the exception rather than the norm when it comes to letting 14 year olds race as seniors." SS also points out that "The Aussies won't let their juniors ride on a 500cc machine until they are 16 " ie a year later than the BSPA do, but I can't see that many of them have been held back by it. So there you have it. Despite Lambert trying to tell us that it is just the BSPA and despite GRW 123 making a fool of himself by claiming it is jealousy against Kings Lynn the British rules on not allowing 14 year olds to race on 500cc machines is pretty much in line , it seems, with the rest of the speedway world except Germany. The World Champions of 2012 and 2013 had to follow the rules, as did Darcy Ward who is a very likely World Champion in waiting. I don't remember them going crying to the press about it and I don't remember them refusing to ride for their country because of it. But apparently that's not good enough for young Master Lambert who thinks the rules shouldn't apply to him. There is another aspect to all this, as Speedway Star points out that some will concerned about ""exposing 14 year-olds to the inherent risks that come with riding a 500 cc bike with no brakes" In all honesty does anybody think it is a good idea to have 14 years olds , barely out of puberty, still at school still going through serious growing spurts, to race a 500cc bike against seniors or should we have a rule that says " You can't race a 500cc machine until you are 15 unless your name is Robert Lambert", which seems to be what he is moaning about. Certainly if the BSPA's rules are wrong about not allowing 14 year olds on 500cc bikes than a lot of other speedway nations are wrong as well.
  4. Read the post properly Sid. The point being made is that Tai is the role model for young riders to follow. Focussed on the job, doesn't go washing dirty linen in public. Never heard him whingeing in the press.
  5. I have to agree 100% with Steve on this one. Apart from his comments in SS Lambert has not been backward in coming forward with similar opinions on twitter in the past What Master Lambert is too young and too dumb to realise is that long before he arrived most sports have had a history of precocious youngsters with pushy parents who think they can wag the dog and they usually finish up coming unstuck. To give Darcy Ward his due, his little misdemeanours have always been off track and as a speedway rider he has never gone round thinking he is bigger than the sport. The other thing Lambert and his parents don't seem to realise is having a talent at 16 is one thing , having the dedication to stay ahead of the pack at 21 or 22 is a different matter. By all accounts Lambert is talented but it seems he hasn't yet decided how he will manage this ability. Either he can go down the Tai Woffinden route or he can tip it all down the same drain as Kenny Carter and Michael Lee tipped theirs.
  6. Can't really see how a slick track played into Lakesides hands. Barker, Kennett and King have all had big scores at Arena in the past and Kennett in particular probably rides Arena as well if not better than he rides any other EL track. I agree it is a disadvantage when a team finds its home track not as they usually expect it but that alone doesn't account for a defeat of this size. I see the Brummies t/m has put it down to poor gating by his team and that might well have more to do with it than track conditions. When riders are not totally focussed gating is often where it shows. If you ever watch Phil Morris at work in the pits he is on to the riders encouraging them all the time and trying to get the best from them, arguably the best t/m in the country. He worked wonders with the Brum team last year and maybe that's whats needed now although the riders themselves have to respond of course.
  7. The highlighted part is really the nub of it. When riders on a 6 or 7 point average score 2 on their home track questions have to be asked. If King and Kennett had simply scored in line with their averages the result would have been much closer, the match would have been more exciting and there would be something to build on. Kennett in particular scored a paid max for Rye House on Saturday so he does have some ability when he gets his head round it. When you consider that Richard Lawson, who is a roughly similar sort of PL/EL double upper to Kennett, scored more than twice as much Kennett and King together it is obvious that the Brum side really have to take a long look at themselves. They might not exactly be the hot favourites to win the league but they are falling well short of their potential. When Coventry paid £29,000 for Eddie a few years ago he really seemed to to have the potential to step up to a decent heatleader standard, but since then he has stagnated . I doubt if anyone would even want to buy him now. What has gone wrong?
  8. Pleased to see the Hammers take 4 points but gutted for the Brum fans. They deserve better than this. No excuse for heatleaders King and Kennett getting 4 points between them. Danny will recover but one has to wonder where Kennett's career goes from here.
  9. Shouldn't be too difficult to organise a pricing policy on the lines of :- Adults £17 Students from well off backgrounds £16-50 Students from working class backgrounds £13 Kids from deprived areas £5 People whom have never had a chance in life £1 The Great Unwashed FREE.
  10. The "fight-back" from 11 points down after heat 9 consisted of 5-1's in heats 10 and 13 where the off form Peter Karlsson was riding and heat 13 where one would normally expect to see him ride. A couple of third places from Karlsson from these three rides would have sealed the match for Lakeside. Of heats 11, 12 and 14 Swindon had a 5-1 against and two 3-3's , one of which was gifted when Adam Ellis had engine failure while in a comfortable third. So really the fight-back, was really all down to Kildemand, who really did look world class in his last few rides, and Batch, who got going towards the end. It seems to me that the Robins side really breaks down into three parts. At the top you have Klidemand and Batch whom are likely to be good everywhere they go and will probably get better as the season moves along, then in the middle there is Morris whose brains are in his throttle hand and then Klindt and Gustafsson who must both be regarded as being on probation, and one or both may well be dropped before the end of the season if they don't improve. If either of them could really get on the pace Swindon would be a real threat for the play-off's. Even more amazing to think that even at the start of the match nobody would have believed he would be swapping places with Peter Kildemand and coming out on top. Maybe , but with the way the league is structured Swindon are one of the teams Lakeside would need to take all 3 points from.
  11. No qualms about that one. Lakesides No1 flopped and Swindons top 2 didn't need a second invitation to pounce. The only consolation is that thanks to Morris Swindon didn't get an outright win. Lakesides PK was positively dreadful. Inexplicable . Morris' failure though can be explained by lack of a brain. Kildemand was on a t/r and had Bech under a lot of pressure when Morris somehow got between them and spent the next three laps blocking Killer, then worse still didn't let the Swindon PK pass him on the run in to the finish . Unbelievable. Morris was then gifted a paid win when Batch locked up and Lakesides PK bounced off him losing momentum and letting Morris through. I did think the draft riders did very well though and their races were far from the strung out affairs that the critics were predicting . In heat 9 Ben Morley took the lead coming of bend 2 lap 1 and was then under a lot of pressure from Ritchings for the whole race, while Ritchings in turn was under pressure from Ellis until Ellis tried too hard and fell off, Morely held on keeping a cool head under pressure for a close win. The Ellis went out and beat Kilindt. So much for the draft riders being miles behind. Can't believe how far backwards Gustafson has gone in the last 12 months. Can't see him lasting the season at this rate. In fact Swindon do seem to have a very long tail but were carried well by the top two.. For Lakeside it is starting to look like a long season. Steve if I told you how bad you probably wouldn't believe me. You have probably never seen him like this. Constantly poor off the gate then in the wrong place at the wrong time. I did hear it was machinery but I don't know for sure. He did look bad though.
  12. Ah, its on there now but obviously wasn't earlier when I posted my link. Bit of a non- point picking on crowd size when you don't really know yourself, and crowd sizes are notoriously difficult to estimate especially on a cold night when a lot are in the bar or out of the way. If it was 1000 -1200 then that would be a bit below average at Lakeside but better than the 770 that turned up last time Lakeside were at Wimp Road. Perhaps the "big" was referring to the waistlines of the South Coast gentry.
  13. Swindon, Eastbourne and a number of other clubs charge £17 the same as Lakeside, and at Lakeside you get free car parking, unlike some. Can't think of many programmes that cost less than £2-50. As to facilities there is now a light in the gents toilet on the back straight which is a big improvement over last year. For those who prefer to go do it in the dark there is always the toilet under the bar so you even get choice. Don't know what else people expect.
  14. The Lakeside summary doesn't say anything about a large crowd .........http://www.lakesidehammers.co/content/?p=7044 Interestingly the report in the North Korea and Bournemouth Echo mentions Poole's mechanical gremlins but doesn't mention the fact that Lakeside had some mechanical problems of their own, nor does mention that three of the Lakeside team were riding the track for the first time, that Adam Ellis well outscored the Poole reserves or that Mikkel Bech was second highest scorer of the whole match. Still, we don't want the Poole faithful choking in their Muesli. Having said all that, once the league starts for real it is difficult to see anyone else getting within 6 points of the pirates at Wmby Road. Lewis Bridger has tweeted this morning that the new system is going to be a wake up call riding at No5. I guess a lot of teams will have that problem but with Ward Shamek and magic Poole seem to have all their bases covered in that respect.
  15. You can't tell much from practice. The new kevlars look much better in the flesh than the pictures on the website and I reckon most fans will approve.. As I said Mikkel looked really good. His actual motor-cycle skills are quite exceptional and I think he just needs experience. He is a typical Dane in the way he rides the bike. Unlike the Aussies who always seem to be hanging off and performing acrobatics Mikkel seems more in the style of riders like Hans Andersen and Kenny Bjerre who kind of sit still and let the bike do the work. Davey seems much happier in himself and hopefully his personal problems are behind him. Paul Hurry said PK is "as good as new" and he certainly seemed buoyant . He never seems all that fast in P&P but he is a wily old bird and I think he knows exactly what he is doing and just uses P&P gets the feel of different set-ups etc with trying to set the track alight. Richard Lawson looked pretty good. Adam Ellis managed to stay on his bike and looked pretty sharp. Even his riding style reminds me of Chris Holder. Jack Kingston had a go and was more or less on the pace and there is talk about him riding when Ben Morley is not available. I think Jack is one to watch this year and very likely to be in next years draft if there is one. TBH I don't think many people exactly have the Hammers down as play-off finalists but a lot of people were saying they really seem to come a cross as a happy team, and really seem to get on personality -wise, so success or not I think they are going to keep the home fans entertained and keep them coming through the turnstiles which is really what its all about.
  16. He was certainly flying at P&P last night. Remarkably smooth rider.
  17. Always look forward to the Robins coming. Nearly always a good meeting when they are in town. They have won on three of their last four visits to Lakeside and were the only team to get an away win there last year , which they did twice. A lot depends on whether the Robins can cover the massive gap left by Hans Andersen's departure but if Gustafson and Klindt can ride to form they will be a tough nut to crack. Simon has often knocked up good scores when he came with Eastie and Nikolai has in the past been good enough to be picked to guest for the Hammers as a heat-leader and he rode very well, getting in heat15 as I recall. I think though that Swindons middle order will have their work cut out containing Mikkel Bech at No4 and that is likely to be the difference between the two sides.
  18. Nobody is going to be busting a gut in a challenge match. It will be a nice warm up for the big one against Swindon on Friday though.
  19. Lewis Bridger now has "Hagon Shocks " plastered all over his Kevlars and I understand he is back in partial favour and I believe Ritchie Worrall may be getting some support.
  20. Yep, good ol' Buster, who had to postpone a meeting last year because he reckoned he couldn't get a fuse changed in three days. Even Horton could manage that.
  21. Preferably as a result of a dodgy rain-off decision after heat 12 causing then to lose a crucial match by 1 point More seriously I would like to see all clubs manage to break-even financially, and if it is to be Peter Karlssons last season (which seems quite likely) I just want to be there to see him score one last quality maximum.
  22. Not exactly. The regulations say it was the 2013 Elite League Championship not the 2013-14 Championship. In 2014 the competition starts again with all team on a clean sheet.
  23. The great thing about PK is that for all his success in the sport none of it seems to have gone to his head. Chatting with him off track he could just as easily be a mechanic or one of the trackstaff. Really nice guy with great humility. A great example to younger riders. Looking forward to seeing how Adam Ellis gets on this year with PK in the pits mentoring him. He won't have a better role model , that's for sure.
  24. As I understand it Steve the PL decision comes down to costs and rider availability. In the EL riders only have to travel as far North as Belle Vue. The PL's problem is that the majority of riders suitable for the draft are based towards the Southern half of the country and it was felt that with NL riders mostly having other jobs it would be too difficult to get NL riders of sufficient quality to enter the draft if they had to travel quite considerable distances to places ;like Edinburgh and Glasgow for every home match. And before anyone jumps on me this was their reasoning (as I understand it) not mine. I don't know where the various riders are based so can't comment.
  25. Then at this late stage you have the problem that whatever club it is will already have got someone else, possibly spent some money on him and he probably would have spent money upgrading his bikes not to mention kevlars etc,. Are they supposed to say to such a rider (who the system is supposed to be encouraging) "sorry mate we are going to use Bates instead "? Then do we have a game of musical chairs while everyone swaps riders around to accommodate bates. As has been said, the only fair way is to take Bates off the draft. Its very unfortunate for him and not entirely his fault but if he goes back in the draft then it is likely to be at the expense of someone else.
